I’m bitching about it but look at the conditions today. Simply amazing. We got just enough rain last night. When I was a kid..... lol no really, we used to race Woodland, ORV, SIR, Washougal etc in the rain. Now everything gets canceled, last year we drove up to race a Pac West and PIR and PIR canceled because of a heat wave. My kid was shocked, we race in 110+ regularly in the summer and no one would cancel due to rain, we've raced GH in monsoons! Soft... Everything is soft now..

Mayson is doing good! We are going to blast down for Hangtown and spend the weekend with him. Need to get him back up here for a couple weeks this summer to rip some PNW moto. Assuming we haven't washed away by then. Smile

We rode till 4 PM today and then the rain started again. The dirt was magical today. You could do no wrong. If we don't get too much Sunday will be epic again.

Now that I'm old I hate riding mud. I got nothin to prove anymore. If it's not at least decent outside I'm not really interested. Cleaning up multiple bikes and a trailer and all the gear sucks. I'll just pass.

We used to ride Sac Raceway Friday Night Moto years back. Sometimes it'd still be 105f at 8 PM. After 7 years in Oregon, I can't handle it once it hits 80!

Their dirt is a little strange. It's serious clay with a good bit of rock in it. On a dry day it becomes blue-groove in the main line, and marbles of death everywhere else. On a damp cloudy day it is the epitome of traction - like a good sprint car track. When it rains, it becomes a frictionless surface and you will likely die if you try to ride it. It's really similar to our track (except we have no rocks at all) but on a hill. Not an easy track to prep well.

I think they could fix it by ripping it super deep and getting a lot of sawdust with some sand worked in, then soaking and tilling deep too. But I'm not sure how deep they can really go. Maybe it's all rock 18" down? It would take a lot of work and $$$. They half-assed it last year with a bunch of slash from the fires but they just dumped it on top, and the pieces were way too big. It really jacked the track up for months.

Been in NW Oregon my entire life. Never seen the month of May this wet before. I'm trying to get my stuff in order to ride again after three years off. Now work has me slammed , rain almost every day , gets depressing. This doesn't feel like May , it feels like February.

I'm not aware of any sand pits anywhere on the west side of the Cascades until you get close to the beaches. It's all clay. Our track is 2' of topsoil over bottomless clay. When it's wet it is unrideable. Oh, it looks good until you go into bowl turn 1 on the high line and slide right up and over the berm. Deer guts on a greased door knob slick. I mix in a good bit of sawdust and fine woodchips to help loam it up. The Shoug and Mountainview are the same basically.

The 2 "sand" tracks we have are really volcanic ash and they destroy chains, sprockets, and tires since it's like riding in wet 80 grit. Both have a really hard base too so traction comes and goes. Woodland can be good but I avoid Riverdale.

Not sure what the deal with the Salem arenacross shutdown long ago in 03? I thought maybe it was coming back? Because they were letting them do flat track in the arena again this past year or two maybe covid killed it?

Was a couple failed indoors tracks early 2000's moto 321 in woodland. Closed 03?
Moto 26? That short lived indoor place out towards banks rode it once. Kinda scary it was lined with huge hay bails that weren't very forgiving. Closed 06?

Used to be a track in Longview from like 02 till 07? Down by the river don't think it was supposed to really be there. You could ride on the river beach up to the water. Riding on the water flood bars. Closed over permits of lack of.

The indoor track Lynnwood motoplex and like the pro wheels guys opened in Arlington smokey point inside that warehouse. Like 03 maybe into early 04.

Burnt ridge reopening in 04.

It was awesome then but since those days it's been pretty stagnation city since. Cadillac ranch was cool but nobody showed up when it counted (county court hearing for track support greenies sure did though)

And the ridge opening but then closing down after only a few years hurt.

Why someone isn't jumping all over burnt ridge and reopening it not sure because it be prime for it.
Other tracks have been slacking people love that place. Open it they will come.

RMC was good too, for winter riding.

All I’ve been muttering to myself lately is, “I just want to ride my fucking dirt bike”. The Midwest has had a long ass winter & now wet/wild spring. 30-40 degree days have flipped to 90 degrees here today in Minnesota after 2 inches of rain overnight. Still waiting on those much heralded lineman to bring power back to the city. Hope we can all ride soon whenever you are!
Same weather hear that day . Severe weather warning the sky was dark but just got a little rain. 91 and muggy that day I was working on bikes. Days prior highs of 44 degrees. Last Sunday I bought a bike in Mn . Rib Moutain in Wausau had a lot of snow on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's only raining where there aren't any droughts. Unless you use the water supplied by the rain?
Not true we have gotten a ton of rain in central oregon. Which we desperately needed to increase snow pack in the mountains and hopefully fill up the reservoirs from all time lows.

Chad has done an awesome job getting it back into shape. I think that he will find his groove running the place and he listens well to input, plus he is a rider himself.

Epic yesterday. Did you ride it again today?
I couldn't Moto today...snapped my linkage in half when I cased the turning double out of the end of the rhythm

Wish I could have made it today. Planning on going up there this coming weekend though, I’m also pretty pumped in the re opening

I come from a place that is famous for its abysmal weather. But when I was in Washington and Oregon the weather was something else, the amount of rain you guys have is just incredible, I remember being amazed at how it could be so heavy for so long. Beautiful place though.

Most of Washington and Oregon are desert, the population base lives where it rains but both of the states are in the top 6 for driest in the summer months, summer is hell here IMO. Where I live in Oregon averages less then 12” of rain a year which sucks but not as bad as living on the west(wet) side of the cascades.

Sunday I went to the track to rejoin and pay 200 for a membership. It’s 100 if ya do a off rd race. I was a member 1990 to 2014 when it closed. The main and old track since 1969 has the triple s, etc taken out easy jumps a lot of hills with step ups. Another track is in the pit area. Anyway 4-21 it had 18in of sand on top. Sunday it was hard pack clay it’s been dry and very windy. Crazy how a track can change. The track has some sand in the back. Not many around here want to ride a hard pack clay track a West coast rider would freak on how Good it is too practice on. I think it has a great layout and you can ride 6 days a week and camp for free. It’s not groomed so it’s a little rough, Perfect for practice.

Area 52 is a sand free ride area off I5 near Riverdale. Getting clapped out though as more people know about it. Still better than the shithole that RD is.

Salem AX was back running MX for a couple years until Covid regs shut them down. Robbie ran it & did a decent job with the track.

Barlow Point (Longview) shut down due to ownership disputes and internal politics. I helped out prepping there at times & had keys to the place. If they hadn't gone off the deep end we could have made something of the place it had decent potential.

Moto 321 in woodland was basically a pitbike track but could still be fun at times. Tightest indoor track I've ever ridden.

Hindsight MX (North Plains Indoor) just couldn't make the numbers work. Was a cool venue.

CCAX - I built the track there in 14/15 for Elaine and if Landon & Rick would've done what they should have in 15/16 it would still be open. Arrogance ruined that & we will probably never ride there again...........

Wenatchee is statistically a lot like Bend, but a little drier and warmer in the summer. Most people don't think too much about how dry it is on the east side of the states, but we get the same average annual precipitation as Tempe does. It's just that a portion of that comes down as snow and piles up a bit!

I grew up in Bend but have lived in Portland the past 3 years.

We are signed up for MV Sunday. Unlimited practice: big bikes and fast 85s only. Shoug will be jammed Friday with Classic 7 rounds 1 and 2 this weekend so we will ride our track instead. Rain moving through now so PIR questionable tonight. They say they are running but it's already soft and if they get more rain.......

Heard Denver area getting up to 2 feet of snow this weekend from the same storm that's heading through here now.

At least the weather in Portland area will be awesome after today - low to mid 70s for the next 4-5 days and SUNSHINE!!!! Bout damn time.
