I was at the race in person so idk what it showed on tv, but forkner got lightly bumped in the corner and went off to the side of the whoops and then accelerated down the start straight to pass jet at the next corner for the lead. Are they going to just let that slide? Pretty surprising if they just pretend like that didnt happen.

He can ride down the straight but accelerating past the rider (jett) in the whoops has always been penalized when done by other ppl. Andersons been docked for this multiple times, how wasnt Forkner? They need to be consistent with the penalties.

The AMA has docked multiple riders for accelerating off the track this season, but we all know consistency isn’t their strong point.
At least in this situation it makes little difference.

He was next to him when he was bumped off the track and behind him when he rejoined. He then passed him going into the corner.

He didn’t gain an advantage. He was bumped off the track, rejoined behind him then passed him.

I was at the race too and your account makes it seem like you weren't at the race. He never skipped the whoops. They were tripling out of the corner before the start straight. He went off the track after that corner. He didn't gain any advantage and was off track for like 15ft

Pushed off the track, was behind Jett and went hard into the turn. Was clean heads up racing by both guys and doesn't warrant a penalty.

You don’t have to gain advantage to be penalised. Read the rules above.
You can be penalised just for accelerating off the track, which Forkner did, but it’s the race director’s call as to whether it was deemed unsafe, which obviously they deemed it wasn’t.

They other grey area is the gaining advantage bit. While he may not have blatantly passed while off the track, should you be able to leave the track and rejoin without losing any time? Going off the track is a mistake, forced or not. Normally when you make a mistake you lose time. If you accelerate off the track so that you don’t lose time, is that gaining advantage?

Incidents like this are a merry-go-round because of the way the rules are written. It all depends on perspective. Perspective rulings rely on consistency.
Incidents like this have been penalised in previous races this year. This one wasn’t. No consistency is the real issue here.

I was not at race, and whatever happened, it looked like once Austin was of the marked course, he accelerated to a point that it allowed him to get back by, and even though it was not very long, he still did it, and here we go again with how they choose to punish, and I hate sound like a conspiracy theorist, but it seems like monster riders get the break moreso than anyone else, or are the only ones who get a break. I think the ruling officials decided that Jett won the championship so give Austin his win since he has been through hell the last few years. I don't really have a big issue with that, but it shouldn't matter what he had been through, only the incident, not who he's sponsored by or rides for or how many injuries he has had, only the racing incident should matter in this incident.

For what it’s worth, I was at the race and watched the incident. Forkner got bumped off the side of the triple which lands you on to the start straight. He noticeably let off and let Jett take the position before accelerating again and recovering his position. Total non issue.

Did you even watch this back? Jett pushed him wide and Forkner got back on the track behind him. He didn’t fully accelerate until he got to the white track marker from what I saw. If the situation was Jett getting pushed off, he would be praised for the amazing pass back. They both rode great, but give Austin some credit here. Jett only got passed because he slowed way down. He had the line. Everything checks out to me. Props to Jett on the title as well. He definitely earned it this season.

was there a reason he could not rejoin the track 5 feet from the incident? gassing it down the straight seemed a little iffy..like he was pissed and went for the block pass.

In most road racing. If a car/rider goes off the track they are not allowed to overtake until after the next corner. It's prob slightly different in road racing as running wide you can get better driver out of the corner and slip stream and pass into the following corner, thus make an advantage.
but i still think similar rules should be enforced in mx/sx.
If a rider goes off track and returns approximately equal with the other rider they should be make to conseed the position. From memory roczen did that at towards the start of 21 vs tomac.

Glad to see Austin win the race. The kid has suffered so many injuries. Great story to come back like this.

I think the rule should be if they go off the track they have to re-enter the track within 10 feet of where they went off, not until it’s safe…make some real consequences for going off track and guys would be far less likely to go off the track….this accelerating off the track is silly…

The only reason Austin won this one is because Jett let him win. Could clearly see that Jett did not want anything to do with Austin and just following the whole moto. And when this ”pass” dis not stick he was like, fuck it and let Forkner charge on.
It was not until Jett could see that Forkner was up for a possible win on the last lap that he put in a charge and closed the gap with ease.

No coz that means u may have to swing a 180 to ride backwards down a lane to rejoin and that could be quite dangerous.

If you are off the track you lost the position.

don't agree that Jett had him easily, early on Forkner was getting the 3 onto the start straight more consistently and pulling a gap there, , both were making mistakes on the track that was breaking down, , and the pass Jett put on was pretty aggressive, and he hit the brakes pretty hard to make sure Forkner could not block pass him back,

the gap was pretty small at the line as forkner covered the inside and didn't jump the finish line jump ,

thought Jett rode smart again, which he has done most races this year,

"The only reason", yep "the only reason" Jett won the championship is because he cross jumped into Forkner.
"The only reason" Forkner was hurt this season was Jett. ........................."the only reason"

On TV, it appeared that he absolutely had an advantage in that corner. Exactly what is referenced above.

Jett closed the gap with ease, he rode smart but were never interested in inviting Forkner to a battle and stayed behind him. But you can’t convince me that Jett rode all he could there and made his 100% to pass Forkner through the whole moto..
