So I read the first post and just have a couple of questions. I use pump gas and 60:1 ratio, I wouldn't hate to increase my oil ratio just for some more lubrication.

Bike Spec- 2022 Gasgas MC250, Airbox trimmed and turbine core 2.1 5k-7500' elevation

What elevation are your spec for?

Sounds like minimum I should do the following:

5.5 Slide
S4 tube
42-75 or a 43-75 Which is better for elevation?

Any other suggestions?
22 GasGas MC250, Central FL ,
you could pick the 42 or 43 and start on middle clip then adjust.
FL average altitude is100 ft , TX where's AJ ~ 1700 ft and Colorado 6800 !
So pilot and main jet you'll have to test and tweak.

On my MC : AJ's specs (I got PV set differently but that's personal pref.)
MJ 490
PJ 32.5
AS ~ 1.5 turns out
Needle jet S4
Needle 42-75 on the 2nd clip
Slide 5.5
Fuel mix 50:1 non ethanol - Maxima K2

Well I ordered:
5.5 Slide
S-4 needle jet
42-75 jet needle
_______________

I'm guessing I'll have to use quite smaller jets than the average person on here.

Currently installed
MJ - 430
PJ - 32.5
42-71 Needle

It sounds like I with these mods I would increase my main jet. I'm surprised that you are running such a large PJ?

Actually I’m only around 650’ of elevation here.

As for higher elevation levels I think there was a guy somewhere in this tread that is at 6500’ and he runs the 5.75 setup. I think he did have to back the main down to a 490, I can’t remember. In all honesty since jets are cheap you might want to get 470-500 and maybe a few pilot jets too. This jetting has been really stable at a huge mix of altitudes.

Can you explain to me the theory here. I was thinking the 5.5 was going to run leaner than the 5.75. I already bought the 5.5 so I guess I'm going with it.

Also how are we able to run such larger main jets.

I'm not really a carb guy so just asking.

MJ - I currently have 430,440,450,460,470
PJ- I currently have 30,32.5,35,37.5,40

Should be good to start.

Would you just suggest the new needle in the middle, MJ 470 and a 32.5 or 30 PJ?

While the actual carburetor opening area is the same under the slide for any given slide position the steeper cutaway of the leaner slide produces less vacuum over the needle jet and pulls less fuel through the needle jet, leaning the mixture.

So the 4.0 slide the bike comes with is super rich. A 5.5 slide is leaner the the 4.0 and a 5.75 is leaner then the 5.5.

MJ wise I’d get a 480, 490, and a 500. These bikes love fuel is how I’ve been getting away with it. Pilot jet wise you’re covered. I’ve only had the 32.5 and the 35 work for me and that when it’s hot or cold. You’re gonna have to play with the settings since you’re in thin air. Start with the specs for the 5.5 slide and see how it runs and we can go from there. Another wrench in the works is the spark arrestor, that’s going to make it run rich so know that going in. Maybe digger will see this and provide some insight about that part of it as I’ve personally never messed with one.

Yes. I notched the slide. It its from a slow roll. When revving on the stand, i can get a clean pull by richening the pilot. (32.5 at 1.1/4 turn on the AS) but the bike still acts like it has a lean bog from a rolling "whack it open" event. If i richen the AS i get a rich burble, no in-between. Yesterday we rode down a dirt road between trails. To wheelie I had to clutch it up. Should i not be able to whack it open, pull clean and wheelie? I realize these seem like "childish tests" but its the best way to describe the issue. At full tilt riding woods it rips, with slight spooge even, but it just will not pull clean off the bottom with a whack open throttle. It acts like a four stroke that is missing the accelerator pump squirt. I dont get it... maybe I am just asking too much.

Some thoughts...

#5 slide is definitely not too lean for a 125. Mine, and others, are barking with it. Mine is on a TC125 doing full moto so I'd expect an overly lean slide to hurt me worse than you.

Float height - Maybe you've got this too low/lean. How are you measuring? Tilted at an angle where it just touches the plunger or totally upside down?

Slide notch - I am running no notch and a 35 or 37.5 pilot depending on temps. Is anyone successfully running a notch on a 125? I can't recall.

What fuel, oil, and ratio are you running?

Needle diameter - in addition to the pilot and air screw, perhaps you ight do well to start playing with needle diameter. This setting overlaps/interacts with the pilot.

Filter - is your filter perhaps overly dry and allowing too much air?

I notched my slide as per Digger, can’t remember if I used the 30 or 32.5 pilot, I have to look at my notes. All other jetting, Was as per this thread. Rode my bike in upstate Ny cool temps and Florida heat & humidity, never touched anything in the carb and the bike ran great from idle to max rpm. I did richen the needle clip position 1 day as I was at a deep sand track that had just been dozed & it was just a freeway. I am currently waiting for my new cdi to come in before I ride my bike anymore. If my bike was going to blow up, it would have been the day at that sand track, when I pulled off the track my pipe had that nice blue color to it….

I am the proud owner of a 2022 GasGas 125 and have been following this thread for the last couple weeks. I have two questions, are the jetting specs influenced by elevation?
I live outside St.Louis Mo. , and the official height above sea level is 433 feet.
And second does this jetting setup make that much difference? I have only ridden the bike four times now, gently, wide open trails and fields, just breaking it in and not wanting to
"age" it too fast. I'm still on stock jetting and 110 race fuel mixed at 40:1.
Now that's it getting warm it's to rip! The carb does seem rich and I have more than normal spooge. I am more than willing to get the slide and nozzle if I'm sure its better.
P.S. I already have updated CDI. Thank you.

It is better. Will clean up that spooge. You will never get that spooge or low-to-mid sputter cleaned up running the stock 4.0 slide. That richness is only going to get worse as the heat and humidity of summer roll in.

I get a lot of emails from here and at the track about jetting for the 2 strokes. Thanks to digger for pointing me in the right direction this is the currant specs. I have for everything. Its easier to start a thread With all the jetting in it to keep track of everything. Your jetting might need tweaked based on your temps and elevation, but this is a good start for you.

Hey AJ.

Any chance I could email ya? Love to have a yarn about a few things on the 250sx. Sounds like uv raced as many of them as I have. We’ve built some nice ones and finally built one for flat track racing thats ended up being a nightmare. Cheers

Well - I was skeptical about doing a ton of changes all at once but HOLY SHIT does @AJ565 ‘s jetting spec work flawlessly on my 2018 KTM250SX!!!! I mean it cleaned up everything!!! No more heavy clutching off the bottom out of turns like the choke is on, no more lag, just clean and linear power throughout!!! This is my changes, didn’t even have to mess with AS bike fired 2nd kick like it could breathe again.

Ok, after a few rides I am ready for the hate mail but here goes...
If you read any of my posts you know my 2022 125XC still had a hesitation off the bottom with the recommended jetting here. I just never could tune it out no matter what I tried. I believe digger had the same issue on a few bikes, also 2022 125. I could not really wheelie off the bottom/mid with a throttle whack, only when firmly in the powerband.
A local shop suggested the following jetting. Juvenile I know, but a undeniable real world performance test.
After switching to this jetting the bike runs awesome awesome! Wack the throttle from the bottom and it wheelies instantly and goes. It rips from bottom to top and doesnt drool at 40:1 or 50:1. Here is the jetting if you want to try on a 2022 125.
42-71 needle on clip position 2
470 main (stock)
30 pilot
Air screw around 1.5
S7 (stock) needle jet
Stock 4.0 slide
Red powervalve spring from the big bikes at one turn in from full out on the preload adjuster
Block gasket had been done previously
All jetting supplied with the bike from KTM

It also works better with a higher idle (not to high but more than a lope) in my woods riding scenario. Bike starts excellent hot or cold. It will load up at idle but not die, and only this when cold until it warms to temp. After that its good.

Say what you want but this is the best it has run, the most power it has had throughout the rev range, and it finally burns clean. I am now pretty happy with the bottom and mid instant power and this thing rips up top like always.

Your mileage may vary. Just thought I'd post after running it for a few rides in case anyone else wants to try it out. I was skeptical but it just freaking works.

If anyone wants the 5.0 JD slide and 42-74 needle let me know, make an offer.

No one is going to hate on you. The jetting we’ve posted in here is just a starting point for those that the stock jetting hasn’t worked for and individual results may very* and so far we’re seeing that something has changed on the 22’s that’s messed with the jetting that’s worked in the past. I personally don’t own a 125/150 so I haven’t spent much time jetting one.

*Side effects very, but may include Low blood pressure, nausea, headache, anal leakage, heaving coughing or wheezing, trouble breathing in closed spaces. You may feel dizzy or confused when you see walruses, and have a longing for coconut milk. These side effects occur all the time, 69% of the time. Death is also common among most patients. Brain hemorrhaging can happen too.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 you covered anal leakage but left out rectal bleeding... I do think I need to talk to my doctor about feeling confused when I see Walruses though...

I love you too AJ🥰

I just figured I would preface it as it Is such a deviation from the norm here. I am curious if someone else has a 2022 125 and if it works or mine is an oddball. My crank and rod are still in one piece so thats good for a 22 125 already 🤣🤣🤣

Hi gahooligan.
can you tell me what's the difference with the red spring compared to the stock one?
Visually, the red should be linear while the stock one has a different turn pattern.

How did the red spring seem to you to the touch compared to the stock one? harder or softer?

How does the delivery of the engine change compared to the stock spring? is the bike more ready when open the throttle?

Thanks

Thanks
The red is supposed to be the softer spring. The stock spring is yellow. You will never tell the difference by hand. They are both super stiff by hand.
Yes, the power curve is supposed to be more linear with the red. Some people say it takes some of the hit away but makes the bike more powerful and faster everywhere in the rev range. It doesnt remove the "hit" and the bike IS more powerful everywhere. There are dyno charts online of ppl testing the springs back to back and with different preloads. In my research the simplest description is that the harder the spring, and/or the more preload you put on any of the the springs, the more power you are removing from the midrange, which makes the transition to "on the pipe" more severe. While this may fool you into believing the bike is making more power up top, its really just killing the midrange and making the top end feel like its more than it was. Really simple terms: the red spring allows the engine to make the most power everywhere with the most linear power curve and no power removed from the midrange. Even with the red spring, as you dial in preload on that spring, you are creating a hole in the midrange. With the red spring and 1 turn of preload, the bike makes great power from bottom to top. And its a two stroke so you are not ever going to remove the "pipe hit" unless something is seriously wrong. The spring is like $2. I recommend just trying it. Its worth it in spades. If it doesn't do it for you, its only $2 and less than 5 minutes of your time. Search "dyno charts for ktm power valve springs" and you will start to get the picture and see why i went red. Most charts are for the 300s but it works the same on all ktm bikes. Hope this helps. Just buy the damn red spring and install it already! 😄

I have a 22 125sx with the jetting on this thread, it’s excellent… … the only time I have had to adjust anything was to richen the needle clip position one day at a deep sand track, this was just precautionary as It was just wide open around the entire track. I never rode the bike with the stock jetting. 12hrs, no issue’s at all. Currently waiting on my new CDI… what silencer/ muffler are you running on the XC? I would expect slightly different jetting for woods/ XC type riding, usually slightly leaner, when on an Mx track you don’t really have many low rpm situations with the. 125”s…

I'm running the stock silencer. I have also run the Turbine Core 2.0 with zero difference felt. Boht silencers rip. I personally like the oem look better but thats probably because, at heart, I am a mx guy but ride wood with my son for now. I ride moto as well and even in MX you have to exit slow corners sometimes. Stock jetting was horrible, and i'd say almost dangerous on a mx track. . It was on its face unless you are on the pipe. On or off with no inbetween. The jetting in the thread was much better for sure! After switching to my new setup listed above and the red Spring, it is finally what I would expect it to run like. The jetting on the first page runs very wellI from mid/upper mid to top end for sure! I just felt there was a lot of oppourtunity off the bottom and in the mid in my case. The new jetting confirmed my suspicions. Like I said, ymmv. I knew i could always swap back in 15 min and i had all the parts to run either setup. I decided to give it a go, and it worked fantastic for me. Out of sheer curiosity, if any other 125 owners try the jetting I listed above with the red spring, let me know how it goes. At least its another option to try.

The settings that you wound up at are pretty close to where we wound up on my friends 22' husky 125. I think we were at 43-71 in the #2 clip , 32.5, 490, S-7, with a #4 slide, along with the red power valve spring @ 1 turn in from full out . This worked OK while racing, but you could still make the bike bog on the lowend, if you tried. I deemed it unacceptable, especially when riding it back to back with a bike that is jetted/ running correctly that we had direct access to.

Interesting. So I am a bit leaner on bottom and mid, correct? and I do not need your 490 on top in the woods. Did you try combining the two or ever go leaner on pilot and needle?

Yes, your are a touch leaner.
We tried every needle from 71-76. They didn't make nearly as much of a difference as I would expect. The pilot sizes ranged from 30 to 37.5. The weird thing was that regardless of the pilot size, the air screw needed to be atleast 2 turns out or the engine would load up badly. The nozzle/ needle jet( S-4--S-7) didn't make much of a difference either, unlike I would expect. The slide did make a little difference, but not in the way I wanted it to. Something is just not right with that engine, and without tearing it all the way down, I don't know what's wrong with the bike.

Odd for sure. Especially when big changes dont result in much. Only time i have seen that ihappen s when the float level was way off. I rechecked and actually at 3/4 on the air screw and it was in the low 60s end of last ride. I could probably run a 32.5 but not if i idled it way down. I run my idle a bit higher than normal but nothing crazy. It pulls good now, especially better rolling into a turn then ripping out, no clutch and stays clean at very modrate paces in the woods too.

One of the circuits blocked in the jet-block somewhere possibly? Or the path leading from the airscrew to the jet block? Did you try a completely different (known good) carb to rule it out?

That would be the logical assumption, but we also used the carb off his other 22' husky 125 practice bike. It too runs the same as the race bike. Both bikes run the same, with either carb, which is to say, not acceptable. I even went to the extreme of setting up a Keihin 38mm PWK that I know works, with jetting that I know should be really rich and it still would bog when whacking the throttle from idle, as though it was staring for fuel. Right next to his bikes, i have another friends 2- KTM 125's, a 20' and 21's with both having the S-4, 5.0, 42-74, 30, 490 comb that he uses year round. I think i had him put a 32.5 in the bikes in January while training in SC. The bikes had a slight OIH, off idle hesitation, and detonation, which I believe was from poor quality fuel.
If I could get the 22' bikes back to my shop for a closer look at what is going on, I may be able to figure somethings out, but what we're doing now, testing at the track the day before the races, just doesn't allow me time to really dig into what is going on. It's very frustrating to me, as this is the first time I've run into something like this that i can't pin point to where the problem really is. I had access to 4 newer 125's, all the non 22's run and jet exactly like I would expect them to. The 22's, not so much.
Side note: The slide in the 22' 125, race bike is absolutely shot. The chroming is starting to peel off. This is a non cut or notched #4 oem slide.

I myself have only once so far on my 21 150sx all stock cept for 38mm pwk. Pro Circuit 296 I mainly choose it because the fmf was too 4 stroke looking. The 296 is maybe a little longer than stock light for a sparky. Couldn't tell any difference was riding in a sandy high desert plains area with some good hill climbs n whoops. So it saw some rev's.

I have a 2022 KTM 125xc used the jetting from the first page. Runs good but has a bog off idle 😢 is that a lean spot for that to happen? This is my first 125 in 10+ years and tuning isn’t my game, but trying to learn. Any help would be fantastic.

Read the few posts above yours, there is a known problem with the ‘22 that hasn’t been solved yet.

Try the jetting I listed above with the red PV spring at no more than one turn in from full out. You have everything you need, it came in the optional jetting Also set your idle a bit higher till it revs out clean on the stand when fully watm if you whack the throttle. Try it, what have you got to lose but literally 15min and $3 for the spring.
