What if you get injured? Even when Weston Pieck was injured in Paris, which I would assume has excellent modern healthcare, it was a difficult experience for him with the language barrier and then having to fly 7-9 hours back home after he got out of the hospital.
I think the travel alone would be horrendous.
Defining "top", We've had 6 motocross AMA 450 Champions this decade.
4 of those have raced a full MXGP series.
One of the two remaining 450 champs (Tomac) has raced multiple MXGPs
I mean, we kinda get where it all generally stands with regard to these top guys, right?
MXGP riders make as much as any US based rider. Their champion and race bonus money is just as good as supercross offers. They have a much higher tv viewership than supercross.
Supercross is the highest form of 2 wheel racing in America, not the world.
Pit Row
It will be awesome to watch Tomac and Ferrandis go at it this summer. Also see if anyone can match the Star Yami. Maybe that new KTM chassis is killer outdoors? Who knows, I guess we'll find out.
Ofcourse Tallon has his history in the GP-scene, and ofcourse there will be some professional connections (mostly between the Red Bull KTM teams and the fact that Max raced the first EMX125 round of 2020), but there are not much people from the 90s GP-scene left. Also keep in mind that 125cc, 250cc and 500cc all had different venues back then.
The only people of the 250cc scene left in the paddock are Pit Beirer, Stefan Everts and some photographers and/or journalists like Archer and Haudiquert. And Luongo himself ofcourse...
Teamleaders of the 250cc 90s like Geboers, Rinaldi, Ricci, Grant,... are all retired or even left the sport. Jan de Groot, his teammanager from 1995-1996, passed away some years ago.
So, like I said, sure there will be professional connections between the teams in the US and in GP's, but I a lot of his old friends and acquaintances from back then are long gone in this scene.
