Here are some from the past for you old timers, see how many you remember-

Blimpie subs
BooKoo energy
Primal impulse
Jimmy Johns ( debatable)
Knich- the Yamaha factory “lifestyle” title sponsor that actually sold ammo on the black market

What was old is new again.
Feel free to add to the list…

The sponsors aren't the ones who pay the riders. The team does. When the team doesn't pay bills with the money sponsors give them and hold up their contract obligations, the sponsor leaves.

Tough business to run. As at least one of us knows first hand.. Not like running a lemonade stand that is for sure.

I agree with that, but we can't blame the sponsors.

Very good and informative video ML!

One thing that annoys me so much with this whole thing is that there is no way that key people in media and the industry hasn't known about all of this. And Cooksey of all people is the one that breaks the news a day before it was going to become public. That is damning for publications like Racer X etc. Why didn't anyone report on this earlier?

"Can the team continue?"

Not with the reputation they just built. No way anyone chooses to risk riding for them imo. Pretty bummed for the guys; hope they find rides quickly.

That’s not a fair list unless we know for sure every one of those sponsors stiffed the team on their contracts. Being a title sponsor and finding out who you’re handing money to isn’t fulfilling their obligations is a different story. I can see a slime ball team owner blaming the sponsor when it’s his fault they’re gone. I don’t know the story behind any of those sponsors but whatever story is known came from the industry insiders. So I guess my question is if any story is believable. Butler claimed the Baggett situation had nothing to do with money owed or not paid……. which seems even less believable now.

I’ll add Great Western Bank who I read never paid any of what they promised. Again though, I am believing the source which was the team riders. Looking back, maybe the team owner wasn’t paying and telling the riders it was the sponsor at blame. Like I said elsewhere, I’ll be shocked if Butler stopped paying himself before anyone else.

Tried to watch the Vital video on the subject, couldn't get past the plethora of preliminary disclaimers. I don't understand all the hush, hush. Everyone knows running any business is difficult and that businesses of every kind fail or are teetering on the brink of disaster all the time. Why should moto teams be any different? This illusion that is forced upon fans by the moto media that everything is hunky dorey all the time is insulting.

Well....There are 2 factory KTMs, 1 factory Honda, and 1 Factory Kawi just gathering dust. Perhaps for the health of the sport, they put a larger focus on manufacture's points to force the factory teams to always field a full team.

I’m not into just going “eff this person” so ten beginning of the video explains back story and prior accusations, along with a brief explanation on where some of our info is coming from. I feel it’s necessary to say these things before pointing fingers.

You did a good job. I think most would agree.

I’m not a fan of Cooksey and don’t watch any of his stuff, unless it gets reposted (like this one did) and I’m interested in the content. The thing is with him, is he rubs people wrong and his delivery sucks.

This post should not get lost among all the others. I am 100% on board with you there.

In F1 when Hamilton had to sit out due to COVID the Mercedes team just grabbed Russell from the Williams team who they supply engines to and still had two factory rides on the grid. There is no reason the factory teams shouldn't have teams they support and can cherry pick riders from. Then the satellite team has their list of privateer riders to choose from. Look how long Honda and Kawasaki have been one bike teams. That just looks bad for the factory.

We’re lucky there are factory teams as they sit now. This isn’t F1 money they’re playing with. The Red Bull F1 team has a 5 year $500 million title sponsorship from Oracle. I’d be surprised if Kawasaki gets $5 million a year from Monster. Maybe we could get some lucrative title sponsors if they stop acting like amateurs when it comes to the business side. See Butler’s method of press release on this. Also see how most insight to rider injuries comes from their Twitter or Instagram accounts.

Total absence of journalism in Moto is why Cooksey exists.

If you arent going to report what you know, when you know it, then you get stuff like this.

Its shit like this that lets teams get away with it time and time again.

Valid point . Isn’t this part of the new World SX plan ?

...the people that report the sport take advertising dollars from the people they report on, so they dont want to displease their financial masters with bad news.

Moto sites can't get advertising dollars from outside moto, because moto is a "Bro Culture" made up of blue collar fans with blue collar wage incomes.

There you go.

Anyone still pretending that Forrest Butler is anything other than a crook is delusional. His pattern of behavior has been clear for a long time. The only thing I find shocking is that RMATV would want their brand associated with his criminal enterprise. Sadly many in the Moto industry clearly know how he operates and just let it ride for years.

Beg my pardon, I understand the disclaimers, certainly. I just couldn't get past them, it was my impatience, not your thoroughness. No offense intended.

Great review ML. As others have stated, it's pretty sad that the moto industry cant operate with more transparency...
