This is so fucking stupid , I don't even know where to start.

Main sponsor , Mercedes and other high dollar companies that sponsor Lewis......do you think they feel proud that he dresses like that in public? He's a multi world champion , in the highest paid , world wide motorsport on planet earth........ And you think it's cool to dress like a clown? One of the greatest race car drivers ever , dresses like an idiot.

Who cares? I can guarantee you that 99.9% of the people who follow this sport ,. Use him as a punchline in a joke.

It's not about " Now. ".......it's about 10 and 20 years from now doing an interview , and they show him wearing this stupid shit! Maybe carry yourself as the champion you are.....instead of being a punchline?

Okay, you're the head of Mercedes.

You have a driver that is (your words) a multi world champion, in the highest paid, world wide motorsport on planet earth. This driver partnered with your company partly because he wanted more autonomy than he had in his previous deal.

He works hard.
Good with the media.
Good with fans.
He brings better results than much of anyone prior for the company.

But.

You don't like his shorts.

You say? No deal?

You also say it's not about now, 😂? Now is when he's building his legacy and what he will be asked to discuss in 10, 20, 40 years from now. He'll probably be able to say that, "He did it 'his way'".

I'm saying that they have to be embarrassed at the way he looks outside the car. And in 20 years from now with an interview on ESPN , they'll bring up those pics......

You'll see a half black dude , literally turn red from embarrassment.
He probably will laugh at his outfits 20 years down the road.....as we all do.

But he will be sitting there laughing with a couple of hundred mill in the bank, a whole bunch of world titles, and confident knowing he is one of the greats.
I am sure he will cope. haha

I'd counter that there's more evidence that they have no problem with his "expressions of fashion". If they were embarrassed, as you say so definitively, why continue?

What evidence do you have that implies their level of embarrassment?

Tommy Hilfiger has partnered with Hamilton and designed the Mercedes team cloth's in the past and launched a company with Hamilton. Hamilton is also involved in black fashion and helps out young designers. I buy all my cloths at goodwill and salvation army so I have no idea about fashion but it seems that's what Hamilton's wants to do when he's done racing. I do know if you are gone to dress like that then you better be fast and he has that part covered.

You can go into your long winded posts , just like every other topic you enter to try and change people's minds with this clown world bullshit.

Motorsports in general , and their fan base do not think like you do. No matter how hard you try , real moto heads on planet earth , don't think like you do.

Lewis dresses like a clown.

Fact.
Well, who woulda thought a guy who dresses like a clown could walk in, unaccompanied by family ties, to the most expensive motorsport on the planet and...dominate? All REAL moto heads would stop that before it even started...😁

After years and years of having it his own way Louis finally gets to know how the other half lives. Although Russell doesn't appear to be having as big a problem Mercedes clearly has followed the wrong path. You know Bottas is smiling under that helmet. The regulation changes have clearly worked and the racing is much more competitive. Allowing the teams to start on whatever tire compound they choose is huge. Happy for Max after a good drive but listening to the Brat Prince whine about LeClerc crossing the pit line during the race was a bit much. Shut up and drive.
Yep and he was whining about how LeClaric was able to close on him so much during or after the yellow complaining "how unfair it is"

Jeffro, lets also remember whilst you imply you speak for "real motoheads" let's be clear.....you mean 'real, conservative motoheads in one particular spot on earth'
F1 is a truly global motorsport, with pretty much the whole industry based in Europe, and most of the fanbase in europe. a place that has a very different view and outlook on fashion and freedom to express yourself than I suspect yourself.

I suspect "real motoheads" just respect him for what he does in the car instead of going full Karen on a message board to complain about his outfits.

Anyway, what a great race

You're no very good at comprehending things when your feathers get ruffled , triggered a bit huh??

For like the 5th time.....I've praised Lewis as being one of the very best 4 wheel racers on this planet , ever.

But because he dresses like a 6yr old child heading towards her little make believe princess castle in the sky......and I say it.......you automatically switch to making it political??

You yourself even said he dresses like shit. Which he does , and is an embarrassment " outside " the car with the way he dresses. You say that he's some how " supporting his native bullshit " or something along those lines??.......

Who is it that he's doing this for? Black people? White people? He's half and half ya know? And neither side , dresses that fucking stupid.

So take your political bait shit you just through in the water.....and shove it up your ass.

You literally agreed with me it looks stupid.......and you still come here to debate it haha. Laughing Laughing I wouldn't be surprised knowing you probably have some of the same clothes at home like Lewis , in your closet......right next to your doll house! Grinning Grinning

Sucks that Bottas didn't score points this weekend.
Same for Schumacher.
He was looking good right up until his shunt.
Was awesome to see him at the track, sounding good, and no worse for wear.

Christ , Mo called me " Conservative " because I said Lewis looks ridiculous. Laughing No Mo.........it's because he looks like an idiot.

Pretty far stretch , calling me a conservative bro's......LMAO!

I mean conservative in the truest sense of the word. nothing political.
I dare say you dress very conservatively. Lewis is eccentric.
I said I like athletes being a bit out there. I think the same with some of the kits that Bogle wears also, even though I personally would never dress like that.

Lets go back to my original post I said
"Who gives a shit what Hamilton wears. Anyone sponsoring him knows what they are going to get, so if they dont like it, they can chose not to sponsor him, and/or Mercedes.

Personally I think the outfits look stupid, but i also like a bit of eccentricity in the sport. something different from the team kit most drivers turn up in."

and you replied with "This is so fucking stupid , I don't even know where to start."

What is wrong with my original post? seriously ....who gives a shit? what is "so fucking stupid"? your point about Mercedes and co "not feeling proud" is absolutely moot......because they keep re-signing him

Let's move on,
You think he looks stupid, I tend to agree the outfits themselves look stupid, but i enjoy some Euro eccentricity in the sport. You think 99.9% of "real moto heads" think he is the punchline of a joke. I strongly disagree, and I think most dont care what he wears.
Mercedes and the rest of the sponsors clearly are OK with him dressing like that.
End of story

What a great season we have ahead
I would love to see a Ferrari championship, but think Verstappen and RB will prove too strong, over the course of the year.. I hope I am wrong

I have my tickets ready for the next race. cant wait for a day of sitting in the stands with my mates and a few beers. I hope the weather is as good as it has been here recently.

Y’all are weird arguing so much about clothes on a F1 driver. Maybe start a F1 fashion trends thread?

After today:
* Has anything been announced about the motor problems late in today’s race? It was three cars failing around lap 33, right?
* What the hell is up with the M-B cars? Podcasts say they are close to a game-changing breakthrough car that will guarantee first and second overall at the end of the year.

I didn't down vote or up vote your post here , because it's your opinion and I respect that. Look at it this way.....let's say you are the head cheese over at Rolex. You sponsor Hamilton with a 100K watch and a nice big check , to endorse your product , and look distinguished. After all , we are in the most expensive motorsport on the planet.

Then your sponsored driver walks around in a clown suit. Do you think , that the vast , vast majority of the people on this planet , that follow this sport.......follow fashion trends like that? Do you think Mercedes and Rolex would be proud of Lewis wearing something like that......or completely and utterly embarrassed?

You know , I know , everyone knows......his choice of clothes looks like a clown suit. THAT right there , is enough for the VAST majority in the future to say " Yeah Lewis was awesome , but dressed like a complete idiot! ".

Maybe wear that shit after your career is over?
What makes you think for even half a second Rolex gives a single fuck what the vast majority thinks? Lol

A pretty decent F1 thread where we could comment amongst fellow race fans, shot to hell.

Awesome race.... Really cool to see Ferrari back up front and see how poised Leclerc has been. Great race by both him and Max. Sucked for Peres but thats racing as they say. This is going to get interesting with car development throughout the year and how Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull handle it. I still think the 22 cars look goofy, but as usual they will grow on you with time on the eyes and they are clearly performing to the hopes of the FIAs rule changes for better close racing.

Other notes.... It seems this fuel is giving the teams some fits with proper settings of vacuum etc. Sad to see the Honey Badger, Alonso, and Bottas all go out with issues. I like seeing HAAS, Alpine, and the others racing for points. In my opinion the best looking car is struggling the most and I hope Willams can find the grip needed lol.

Was it more fuel issues , and not over heating issues? They mentioned a few times that the cars were overheating. They also mentioned that , that specific track demands full throttle about 80% of a lap. Also with the new changes to these cars , closer racing doesn't help cooling. Edit : now that I think about it though , fuel could be boiling.

Interesting take on DRS.
We have indeed seen a change in racing strategy this year.
https://theparcferme.com/horner-says-f1-should-look-at-drs/
Gotta be honest. I’m loving the effect the DRS had on these 2022 cars. It literally does add to the racing and adds more strategy. But I do get where they feel it takes away from skill and technological advantage a bit. Close racing is awesome though.

If you're the head cheese at Rolex and you don't know who you are partnering with, then maybe the head cheese job at Rolex is over your head. Like seriously.

The single most marketable driver in "the most expensive motorsport on the planet." is Lewis Hamilton.

Do you think, that the vast, vast majority of the people on this planet, that follow this sport.......follow fashion trends like that?. No, I don't. That is a major reason why you partner with Lewis Hamilton. He reaches other market$ and demographic$. Mature companies are normally looking to grow in every next quarter. Reaching new markets is a great way to do that. Lewis Hamilton fits that bill like nobody else in the paddock.

The fact that Lewis doesn't seem to be hurting for partnerships should tell you something. Wouldn't you think that the companies would walk away from his brand if it was hurting their bottom line?

To me, much of his fashion choices look kinda forced, but I understand it from a business point of view.

Why wait until his career is over when he can wear it now? I'd say going "against the grain" has worked out well for him so far. He's risen to the top of "the most expensive motorsport on the planet.", without prior familial pedigree.
I´m pretty sure he is not the most marketable driver... Do you see purple stands even in UK?? No, You see orange stands (max and mclaren), red stands(ferrari) , yellow (rossi in MotoGP) stands, people who follow the sport don´t buy Mercedes or Hamilton merchandise.

In Mexico in the 6 races I went you barely see Mercedes or Hamilton stuff ( you see ferrari or red bull the most) and as far as I see stands all over the world you barely see hamilton Fans.... Facts...

Tell me how many of those outfits are sold over the world because he wears them? do you even know what brand are those??? It´s more of an ego thing or a "look at me please!!! I´m different I have a "sense of fashion"

In that case I prefer what Roczen did, full suit damn that was classy. If you are not going to represent the major brands that you are racing for at least represent class in the most expensive sport on the world...

That´s not fashion that is a FAD that will never last.

PS: he had Ron Deniss suport since he was a teenager.

Agreed.
It's a necessary evil.
I just thought it was cool how thosetwo have quickly adapted their racing strategies with the drs, and the way these new cars are able to race closer without losing front downforce

I also would like seeing these guys use it wherever they like, as long as they're within one second of the guy ahead.
Puts a bit more in the hands of the drivers.

I’m over the fashion chat, but do want to discuss how marketable the drivers are.

I will admit that the orange stands are impressive, but I also do think I see a lot of black or white Mercedes/Hamilton hats.

And outside of the sport, I think Hamilton is much more of a household name. Anecdotally I see many more ads, billboards etc with clothing companies, sunglasses, watches, banks etc using Hamilton to sell their brand more than Verstappen, but I understand that is very anecdotal.

When it comes to social media, Hamilton has 27.4 million followers. Verstappen 8.2
Twitter is also a similar multiple.

Hamilton has been around longer, so perhaps things will change, but I really do believe more people in the world know who Hamilton is at this point in time.

Both guys are very marketable at this point, I think verstappen may be more popular within the sport, but Hamilton more popular/known with the average consumer on the street

If Hamilton's getting less popular its because people were sick of him winning, now after last season he's a underdog so his popularity will go up again.
