Both Aston Martins crashed in FP3. What a disaster. Going fast on this track is starting to look really sketchy. Lot of loose cars lot of cars missing the Apex locking up their brakes or missing the corner entirely. Qualifying could be a real risk-reward proposition.

Alonso into the wall in Q3 causing a red flag with just under 7 minutes to go.

Sainz lost his flying lap because of the red and he's now starting 9th.

Good to see McLaren inching their way back up the running order, where they belong.

Albon was disqualified from qualifying because the stewards couldn't extract a 1L fuel sample from his car. He technically failed to qualify, but the FIA granted the team permission to race tomorrow.

The FIA have also banned parallel driving during safety car restarts.

Article 55.14: "In order to avoid the likelihood of accidents before the safety car returns to the pits, from the point at which the lights on the car are turned out drivers must proceed at a pace which involved no erratic acceleration or braking nor any manoeuvre which is likely to endanger other drivers or impede the restart"

I don't remember that being a problem in the past.

What a season it has been. Loving the new cars and regs. Gutted for Alonso.

Alonso felt he could've been fighting for pole.

I'm not sure about that.

A shit weekend for Sainz....not really his own fault. Ferrari put him on those hard tyres.

What exactly is Mercedes' problem?
They finished 3rd and 4th, best results so far.

Charles LeTomac stunk up the show.
The car, and his driving, will be hard to beat this year.
Hopefully.

Does Max still have a chance at this title?

This sucks for Red Bull.

46pts. behind and 20 rounds to go.

not if LeClerc and Ferrari keep going like this , they got that car perfectly dialed in to Charles his liking

My thoughts exactly. That’s 2 DNF’s in the first 3 races. If Ferrari starts fading it’ll be a 1-2 Mercedes lock by mid-year.

I just now watched the Aussie GP. Any word yet on Verstappen’s engine failure?

Still a very long season, but they'll have to figure out these problems if they want to make a run at it.

What about Mercedes? I'm thinking not this year.

Leclerc having a bad race, like Sainz did yesterday, will tighten things up.
And Mercedes definitely looks to be gaining lost ground.
Dammit.

Well Max's dnf sort of took the fun out of what was a fairly boring race. It was clear he had nothing for Leclerc and was just trying to finish second. Apparently there was no warning to the team of the problems with the car. I wonder if all that bouncing and shaking the cars are doing these days has anything to do with it. Great job for albon and Williams getting in the points. 57 Laps on one set of hard tires good job.

Hamilton not being the first Mercedes can't be sitting well with him, but I got a little kick out of it, not to mention seeing Williams on the box.

I agree, and I back red bull when it comes to in season development.
I also think Mercedes will be battling at the front by the end of the year, however by the time they sort out their car, i think both championships will be out of reach

I thought the results of this race were interesting, it was good to see Mercedes and Mclaren gaining ground.
it would be great to see 3 or even 4 teams capable of winning each weekend.

But i think we need to remember Melbourne has always been a bit of an anomaly when it comes to car performance, so i dont think we can read too much into the form changes.
Mercedes didnt bring any upgrades here at all, I am not sure about Mclaren

I remember when Ferrari signed Leclerc.
He immediately said he wasn't coming on board to play second fiddle to Vettel.

Russell has paid his dues wallowing in the Williams paddock.
Now it's time for him to shine.
Not play the role of wingman.

This weekend is the first sprint race of the season.

FP1 and Qualifying tomorrow morning.
FP2 and Sprint race Saturday morning
Race Sunday.

With only 1 practice before heading into qualifying and some teams struggling with their cars, it could be a disaster for some of them if they don't nail their setup from the get-go.

Agreed, Mav.
Seems like the old books are all but useless.

Maybe someone makes a move up this weekend.

I'll be at Hallett for a SCCA "Major", so not sure how much I'll see of the F1 weekend until I get back.
