What makes you think Sexton is so secure there? He ends up on the ground more often than not. I have no idea how long his contract lasts, but it wouldn’t shock me to see him looking for a change of scenery in the future. The curse is strong.
oh yes the Honda curse is very strong with Vitards

too much injury risk sending a 250 racer with zero chance of winning a 450 championship.

I'm going to think outside the box.

I say Honda, Red Bull and Alpinestars should just open up their wallets a little more and have a 2nd rig for the Lawrence brothers.

I believe there's quite a few companies that would be willing to support that kind of program. The marketing potential around those two is practically infinite. Put out a YouTube series and watch the views accumulate.

They're both riding at a high level and they'll both be riding 450's at some point, so why not try and capitalize on it?

I know that's not how it works, but a Red Bull Honda Alpinestars team would look great in the pits.

That said, Sexton is signed through 2023 and if HRC wants both Lawrence's under their factory tent come 2024, they'll have to find someone willing to agree to a 1 year deal. Would Kenny agree to that? How about Craig? I don't see Musquin leaving KTM, but I suppose he could be an option as well.

Or they move Hunter up in 2023 and Jett in 2024.

the amount of cool content and outside sponsors it would attract would actually be insane

Herlings makes an appearance in the following video.

It's not very often that the sport comes across brothers who not only ride at a very high level, but are also a marketers dream.

Just imagine if Malcolm had taken his career more seriously ealier on. A James and Malcolm team would've been hands down the most popular team in the pits. That would've been another opportunity companies would've had no problems supporting.

There's the Martin brothers, but I personally don't think they're as marketable.
100% Agree, look at what they are doing already.
Jetts got his own cafe Franchise starting up!
And Than the apparel line that Lucas mentioned in the redbull ep. He is making more off his clothing than some 250 factory riders salary.
Hunter is the professional of the two and creates good balance for the duo.

Id personally would love to see it. one can dream.

Chance hymas contract is apparently 23,24 pro 250.
I cannot recall a successful 450 rider moving up with no championships and 3? Overalls.
So I say hunter needs to stay down and try and win some.
The biggest question is when does jett go 450s.
23 sx? 23 outdoors? Or 24?
Going off his career so far jett was racing emx at 14, went pro 3-4days after he turned 16. He has always gone up early. So I expect him to be racing 450s in sx23.

You can never be sure because of injuries. But if everything goes smoothly, i think Jett will be on a 450 in 2023. But it will be outdoors because i would think he and Honda wants to defend and run the number 1 plate in 250 SX 2023. Then full-time 450 in 2024.

Assuming Jett wins both titles this year, then in 2023 HRC should go as RC said. Plan to have Jett race 250W and to ride some or all 450 races in the opposite coast at 50% just to learn. Then move full-time to 450 for outdoors.

Moving up early is OK in the amateurs but not in the pros let alone 450SX, case in point Jett's first 250 year and RC' first 450 year. Moving up at the right time to the 450 would require a 1 learning year or 2.

Honda didn't let McGrath go. Jeremy let Honda go after riding the stiff as a board 1997 Aluminun frame CR250. He rode the same 1993 chassis for four years with Skip Norfolk updating the plastics each year but with change to aluminum, couldn't hide the frame with new plastics.

Jeremy went to Suzuki 13 days (or was it 11) before A1.

I just don't see the rush to move Jett up. With the Star team getting so much 250 attention, it's great for Honda to have a guy that can potentially win them titles matching up against them. If they can get Webb then they have at least a SX title contender and see if Sexton can refine himself a bit (he has the pure speed.) That's still a very solid 450 team for like 2 years until you move Jett up. Jett on 250s for another year or 2 wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm sure he will win, make the 250 program look great. Plus he matures a bit. Then bring him up and he's instantly your number 1 guy and still young. So he has plenty of time to be your top 450 guy, if he can stay healthy. I think rushing him up to 450s would be risky. He might feel pressure to win right away and get hurt etc. Plus, you would instantly hand the 250 dominance right back over to Yamaha. Just my opinion. Good discussion though.

Putting either of the Lawrence brothers on a 450 next year seems insane to me. Jett is blazing fast but I don’t think there’s any way in hell he could survive a whole season racing a 450. In my mind you keep them on the 250 and let them clean house next year, win everything in sight in the 250 class and groom them (especially Jett) mature a little before you stick them in the meat grinder that is the 450 class.

I say their strategy is to keep Jett long term at all costs even is that means sacrificing 2023. He's going to be the hottest name the second his contract comes up. I'm sure keeping Hunter onboard helps keep Jett happy. Roczen and Sexton dissing the bike I'm sure doesn't help.

If Jett isn’t ready now, then when will he be? When he wins every race by half a lap?

Here's something different. Throw Hunter on 450 this outdoors (assuming Kenny is out), in 23 SX, Hunter 450 and Jett 250, then MX Jett 450, Hunter 250.

Hunter has more racing experience, so he might do good on the 450, and they get an idea where he stacks.

Dunge podiumed the 450 class in 2008 while battling Jlaw for the west title.

I think Hill was 450 full time when he won though

Why do people keep saying to put Hunter on the 450 first when he’s clearly slower than Jett? Assuming Jett wins SX this year he will have an outdoor and SX title, and Hunter will have won 2-3 races total.

Honda has a fast amateur moving up to the pro class next year. So Hunter up to 450's and Jett trying a few 450 SX races next year. Since NBC loves the Lawrence brothers, would be good marketing for Honda to have one brother in each class next year.

The question I wonder is do teams have to sign Hunter to have Jett? Will he make it a demand that they are a package deal? I don’t think Hunter is on Honda right now if there is no Jett.

What makes u think hunter would not be at Honda?
Where would u have him?
I have herd many ppl say he doesn't deserve that ride and he only gets it coz of jett.
Last season hunter got 2nd in sx and 3rd in mx. And is running 2nd now. He is the 3rd or 4th best 250 in both mx and sx.

I can see them leaving HRC but getting factory support like Reed did, they will make an absolute killing on there own.

I do agree with Jet staying 250 supercross next year, and some select 450 races. Not too many to avoid burning the kid out.

Then a move to 450 outdoors. Although an ass whipping outdoors could be a bit of a mental block if it were to happen. He could be up against this ‘new’ Tomac bruising a lotta egos.

I don't know why, it's weird.

Jett turns 20 in 2023. The guy is elite, he is probably best talent we have seen since guys like Roczen and Tomac entered the scene. He will probably be a 250 SX and MX champion by the end of 2022. He should definitely move up to a 450 outdoors 2023 and full time in 2024. That would be normal progression for him.

Hunter may be a touch off Jett at the moment, but he’s building after a bad run of injuries.

However despite that, he’s won 3x SXs and 1x Outdoor in the last year. Before the injuries, won the MX2 class at MXdN, beating Osbourne, and at Redbud nations, beat everyone in the last moto except Coldenhoff. There’s no doubt about his ability.

Add being more mature than Jett and having an awesome smooth calculated style, and I can’t see why you wouldn’t move Hunter to the 450 class. Once there, 250 wins count for nothing.

Although Jett is close to this stat also, Hunter has only started something like 17 SX races in total.

How many 125/250 SX races had Chad reed started before he went to the big boy class?

The 250 class doesn't need Jett- the 450 class does.

The answer is one.
A single race in 1999 as a complete unknown on a borrowed practice bike.

And when he arrived in 2002 as a 19yo, he raced the first 3 races in the 250/450 class before doing 125/250 East, which he cleaned up. Yamaha even let him go back into the 250/450 class for another race before the east-west shootout. Wish we’d see a bit more of that now.

But his first full year in the big boy class was 2003 after a total of 9 125/250 SX races (counting 1999) and he won A1 before giving RC fits for the rest of the season. Can’t help but think if Yamaha had of let Reed go straight into 250/450 class full time in 02 like he wanted, Reed would have probably won that 03 title.

Regardless, it’s a completely different era and scenario to the Lawrence brothers.
