Does 72 wins still happen with 20:00 mains instead of 20 laps?

As we chat about Eli climbing up the SX all time win list, I believe he will end up 2nd all time if he continues to race beyond this year. He might get to RC yet before the lights dim on 2022. Which got me thinking, does the King get 72 wins if each main was 20:00? I know A LOT of his wins were total yawners as he was so far out front, but more time on the clock means more lappers, more chances for carnage, further track deterioration...Does this change anything?

Jeremy was the best with room to spare in his era. .......and in shape from 95 on.

Yes. Back then, lap times were often slightly over a minute long. And he cruised for the final half most races. It wouldn’t have changed anything. Maybe not exactly 72. Maybe a few more. Maybe a few less.

It would have been over 100 wins.

Easily. Dude was on an entirely different planet than the rest of the field. Doesn’t matter if it was 10 minute mains or 50 minute mains.

Never really thought about the opposite result-he could have had more than 72 because he was so dominant.

Larocco may have taken a few wins from MC in a 20 min format. He always started in the back and would run out of time.

MC could outrun LaRocco at a moment's notice. All he had to do is keep tabs on him, no matter how long the race.

Larocco is an SX champ at least once with 20 minute mains.

I’m a biased Larocco fan so you won’t convince me otherwise!!!

MC looked like he was riding at 80% while gapping the field, longer races would have been no problem..

It got to where I’d hope he tanked the start so the race for the lead would be fun to watch.

MC was just plain better than everyone in his era…by a country mile. He’d sprint to a decent lead…then cruise around the rest of the race for the win. If anyone challenged him, he’d sprint again, and he was able to do that all the way until RC…

When someone gets 151 overall wins and 16 major titles

Young people today may never see domination like McGrath. His technique was a generation ahead of its time and in an era where it was difficult to copy what others were doing.

Imagine if he got on a Yamaha a year earlier and could’ve skipped that whole last minute Suzuki year.

Or the end of time. Whichever comes first.

I think IF Tomac passes RC for wins next year, he will win the title…and Tomac with 4 titles, and 2nd all time wins…that has to put him on 2nd all time ever in supercross…right?

If he passes RC then he'll be third on the all time SX wins list, JS7 has two extra wins over RC. At this rate, I'd say Tomac can reach that threshold by next year or retirement.

Doesn’t he have two already? Looks like he’ll win this year, and if he wins enough races to pass RC next year, he’ll likely win that title as well (maybe not)…that’s where I’m getting four…does he only have one now?

He’s only got 1, 2020. Unless you’re counting regionals? Which really don’t count in career totals

Ah, my bad…I thought he already had two.

So three (potential titles) and third on the all time win list…second all time is still probably RC…because a few more wins, wouldnt trump RC’s 5 titles….but third all time isn’t that bad (but debatable between him and RV).

Yes. Maybe Jeremy wasn't as fit as Ricky or the guys now, but he was obviously in great shape.

3rd all time is super legit.

Really makes you wonder if RC could have stacked up another 10-ish wins had he stuck around until he was 30. Crazy to think he retired at 27 or whatever

26 years old for RC I think. Eli was the oldest to win his first SX title now he’ll be the oldest to win it period.

Let’s add this, there weren’t no 17 races a season when MC raced. I think it was 13 or 14. Actually looks like it was 15 or 16 depending on year.

I am a fan of Tomac - and hope he wins more titles, but he has a way's to go to be considered #3 all time SX. When he gets his 2nd title - he will be tied for 7th overall in SX big bike titles.

It is not just about race wins.
