To all the long time members or really anyone who's been around these parts for more than a year or so, what's your take on where the site was to what it is now? Content, features, forum, community, etc? I'm quite curious what everyone's thoughts are as the place has evolved, especially from those that have been here since near the beginning.

The search function works as poorly as it did ten years ago. Same with PM’s. This is the only forum I’ve ever used that they are awful on.

The likes/dislikes seems childish. They don’t need to be here but since they are, downvotes should not be anonymous it just encourages troll behavior.

I still visit here more than anywhere else on the net so you’re doing something right, just wish those functions would come out of the stone age.

I think it has grown nicely and I also like that the format has stayed consistent. It's a great site imho and I love getting roosted or throwing roost in the forums!

I love the dislike/like feature lol. I know I have at least one stalker that dislikes every post I make, it cracks me up lol!

The Bazaar section was anarchy then, and it’s anarchy now.

Five minutes of effort into making it more secure with some rules would make it 1000x safer and more usable.

What he said ^^^^

Michael......I actually enjoy it here now that you took over. The last 4 - 5 years I thought Steve over policed this site , to the point a lot of long time members either left on their own , or got banned if Steve was in a bad mood. I think the pit bits , bike tests and so forth are really well done as well.

Site content is great. My first place to go for the day.

I know its small but i wish ping would go back to the written "ask ping".

Also besides the slim few same dipshits who have to post garbage in every thread and not provide anything semi meaningful its been good otherwise .

I stay on all day. The dumb threads are frequent but that's expected. It would be really nice to be able to hover over the thread title to see a preview of what the content is so I can spend less time going through useless posts. Either way, love Vital.

One constructive criticism, I would much prefer to see written features than video features. I don’t bother clicking on much if it’s just a video.

I don't pay attention to that area as much as I probably should, noted.

I think the likes/dislikes are a big improvement and resemble other social media upvote/downvote. Just have alot of children that get butthurt when they get downvoted. Would be good to prioritize/highlight the most upvotes/downvotes for entertainment, rather than scrolling through and reading everything.
Content is great, this is my first stop for moto content.
Bike builds are great - big jumpstart to look at someone else's builds when on your own.

Search function and PM/DM system are definitely high on the priority list for the update that's in process right now.

I'm on the fence with thumbs up and thumbs down...I personally see benefit and negatives...be curious to hear more users thoughts on it.

I'm on a lot of forums. A lot of them have lousy search features IMO.

The worst feature of vital from a functionality standpoint is the DM/message tools.

I used to hate the thumbs-up/down. Now I like it. I get at least one down-vote no matter what I post. It's a badge of honor now.

GuyB was click happy. He clicked me for posting a negative remark about Villopoto, it was during that time that Villopoto had gone silent, the last year of his career. I think GuyB took things too personal in regards to the racers. I'm not an insider, I don't know any of these racers. They are not my buddies or my business partners. If I make a comment, it's about their public persona, their race persona, their public face, their brand if you will, or their on-track performance.

Villopoto is a good example. His public persona has changed. He seems like a funny and good guy now.

I guess I'd ask who is this forum for? Is it or fans or insiders? Is their room for both?

I appreciate that the site policing no longer includes a dose of snarkyness with every corrective action.

Remember when GuyB belittled a member for no apparent reason because his profile pic was an AR15? Then the member basically asked “wtf?” and was promptly banned? Glad those days are behind us.

I absolutely love the relatively recent improvements like continuous scrolling, up/down votes and polls.

I don't remember much content from back in the day other than occasionally browsing pit bits. I enjoyed the content GuyB did with Movers and Shakers, View from the Floor, and i would like to see more unique analysis like that. I dont like admitting this, but I read every single one of Cooksey's articles when he was doing content here.. and I enjoyed the back and forth on the forum that his articles prompted.

The aggregated content from all around is really hit or miss for me, usually I won't find something new on here because it was posted on vital. I appreciate the effort, but I don't like that stuff clogging up the Vital-made content. Maybe have a separate section for the content from other sources.

I might have missed it, but ML, are you still doing the post race interviews? I always listened to GuyBs but I haven't seen any recently.

I was a downvote, I'd say the opposite. If you could see who downvoted you, trolling would increase and real life stalking/harassment scenarios ensue. If I get downvoted enough on a post, it makes me stop and think, "hmm, maybe I should think more about this", or, you know, just not care about who downvoted me

Good to hear!

I just don’t think people should be able to hide behind anonymous downvoting, it encourages people to be two-faced. We should all be accountable for our actions on social media.

I don’t get butt hurt about it, just seems like an unnecessary double standard and don’t know why would be set up this way if they are going to exist at all.

Search feature does not work well at all and never has, would cut down on all the extra threads people start a week after a big story and the original thread has played out but some amateur reporter from half way around the world starts a new thread because they think they have the scoop.

One thing I would like to see is a limit to how many posts a new member can make per day and limit the ability to start a new thread, too many banned people start a new account just to keep arguing and or just to troll. Seems its the same people who like to piss and moan about everything and also just post in the hot topic threads like covid, its the same clowns that show up in all the covid threads, get rid of them and don't unban repeat offenders.

Content has always been good and is still top level like bit bits and 12 days of xmas even though I didn't win its still a cool deal.

Like the thumbs up thumbs down feature, you can agree or disagree with a post without having to write a reply on thread that are not a big issue to you so its cuts down on clutter. Laugh at the nancy boys who whine about getting a thumbs downLaughing

Usually the first place to read a MX story before it hits, you will get a thread or two about what happened before widely reported.

I give Vital a A- overall. Ban the trolls and trouble makers asap would get it a A+Cool

One thing you might consider is just the removal of the downvote button. Some people take it the wrong way and then it causes negativity to start.

The upvote definitely needs to stay so we can continue to upvote the heck out of a new 2 stroke purchase or a feel good family story.

Being that tech is more my neck of the woods I've been leaning a bit more that way for race content. I won't be at every single race so I shied away from race interviews. Good, Bad, Ugly is continuing and I'm doing a small storyline feature called Words and Photos.

I'd like to get another someone involved that likes to do race analysis or an opinion column too.

Aggregate is definitely hit or miss. I think I clogged it a bit too much here and there. Kind of a learning process based off views, figuring out what aggregate content our viewership likes. It's becoming a bit more obvious so some stuff will be trimmed.
