From the looks of the current 250 class I'd guess that in 5 years the 450 class is going to be plenty exciting. As I see it now the only person that may be a serious cut above the pack would be RV and I don't see him as a Carmichael or Stewart...at least not yet. RC and JS were and have been even a cut above themselves.

Colorado 250's were insane.

I tend to agree that RV will be the one to step away from the pack and be "the guy", but RC/JS were/are even much more than that.

I feel that there were times that RC was so far above the pack that he should have been awarded the entire podium. I mean when James was winning by a minute on a 125 against 250f's "somebody" had to get to second - even if they were 57 seconds behind. Not sure I see the same command of the field in RV...it could happen though.

It won't happen. 450 racing will never be as tight week in and week out as the 250 class. Bikes are too big and powerful. Same reason they were smart enough to do away with the 500cc class in SX over 30 years ago.

Now they are back to pawning open class machinery off on us as the "premier" class, and its boring because not enough guys can get everything out of the bike.

they should cut the teams down to 10 2 man professional teams and cut everyone thats slow out of the program.

250's at Colorado was the best race we have had for years. Nice all the different guys from across the pond are here.

As much as I dislike Dungey, I think he's going to be up there with RV. I think those two will dominate over everyone else, except Pourcel.

I think Dungey might continue to be a hair off of RV, but he'll find a way to win championships.

I think he's a great kid with success written all over him, but I cringe when I hear him speak on the podium. I could see him @ Honda next year.

Dungey is a Windham type. He won't just "find a way to win a championship." Pourcel is the one to be worried about.

So you guys do not think the 450 class is exciting this year? 5 different winners in 6 races?
I thought the toughest class was always the premier class? The cream rises to the top when you have to manage the most horsepower.

I thought the toughest class was always the premier class? The cream rises to the top when you have to manage the most horsepower.
I was at Red Bud and watching those guys twist those 250f for everything they were worth was more exciting that watching those fat ass 450s lugging around. Much respect to those guys who can handle them but it's a different type of racing that I don't find as exciting. Just my humble opinion of course.

And Mcgrath dominated SX on the two stroke?
It's not the "pawning " of open class machinery that's the problem.
In fact, the premier class has had a different over all result more often than the 250's

250- Dungry, Pourcel, Dungey, Pourcel, Weimer, Weimer

450- Villipoto, Alessi, Alessi, Reed, Tedesco, Grant

It also seems to me the two telecasts are different as well.


The 250 coverage is just that. More racing coverage, less BS! Much more enjoyable to watch.


The Lakewood 250 show is a classic!
