Not mx I know, but this years gncc series has been a good one to follow. It’s down to the last race of the season to crown this years champ of the xc1. The xc2 champ was locked last weekend by Girroir and I think he’ll be a force in xc1 once he moves up. Next year will be even better once all the guys are healthy again. Just a super fun series to follow, and to be able to race in as a slower old dude…

Ironman usually brings out some industry names, anybody know if some big names are coming out for the finale next weekend? I unfortunately missed the race this year with 199, bummer. I was hoping to get passed by him, ha

Man I’m hoping for stew that he gets this title, I’m a fan of the guy. Back in the day watching him in xc2 before the wrist injury, he was well on his way to being the best ever in my opinion.

Side note/question isn’t he the youngest guy to ever start in the front row at a gncc? Before the age rule didn’t he sign up for xc1 at like 14?

He was 15, it was before they let 250 2 strokes race xc2 and he had just won the 200a title

Jeff Walker says he's racing xc1, I don't see that going very well but will be cool to see him out there

Agreed, it’s hard not to be a fan of Stew. The dude grabs beer after each race with a huge smile on his face. One of His last interviews was great too, about having fun and how the big teams ruin it for most guys.

Pulling for Baylor. Always been super nice when we're at the Shoals.

GNCC may suck for spectating compared to moto and they may not do anything like stadium triples or Laroccos Leap but do not underestimate the gnarlyness of those dudes. They are not efffing around and they go gnarly terrain at speeds that are just stupid.

I was a moto guy only when I was younger and figured I would race Hare Scrambles when I was older. I race the plus 50 class in FTR Hare Scrambles and I crash more now than I ever have in my life. All is well and you think you're ripping through the woods then wham you're on your head because you didn't see a slick tree root.

If you go to gncc theres plenty of spectating areas that are famed. Howard’s hole, the bottoms at Ironman. Power line had the mud hole, and so on. Just follow the crowd after the start and you’ll find out!

I am a Stu Baylor fan, but also a fan of Ben Kelley....it will be amazing if Baylor pulls it off after being down a whole lot of points (missed a race)

Kelley should be way ahead in points due to stu's missed race

It’s called getting chicked and yeah they’re really fast. Maira forsberg raced 250A once and got a 5th I think.
I got mad respect for the women racers!

I like Stew, but as a Connecticut resident I will be pulling for Ben in the championship.
Ben comes from an off-road racing family, his dad Mike and uncle Dave were pretty fast guys in the NETRA enduro series and cousin John is the 2016 NETRA H/S champ and has a good chance at another title with the points lead going into the final NETRA enduro on 10/24.
So go Ben Kelley!!!!!

That's a huge bummer. Stew would have to win and Ben would have to get third. With all the team tactics I find it hard for Ben to get anything other than first or second. By the looks of it Strang or Layne will have to have a hell of a day for stew to pull if off.

Or maybe I'm wrong, maybe after the incident with toth last year maybe they crack down on the team tactics.

Either way its a bummer I was really looking forward to the racing.

Rules are rules! But, it happens at every race. Guys walk the track day before to find these lines, and sometimes spectators will find them for you. KTM also has the most people in the woods, pointing lines and protecting lines.

You're allowed 25 foot leeway and this infraction was judged to be 31 feet, with no passes taking place. Not really how I'd want to win a championship.

Anyone who's been around this type of racing knows that these kind of lines just develop and everyone that sees them starts taking them.

Aside from all that, Baylor was docked 4 points while other riders were docked just 1 point. I understand this rule assigns penalty points by position, but it still doesn't seem quite right that two riders can commit the exact same infraction and get penalized differently.

GNCC is in a tough spot in situations like this because its extremely difficult (impossible?) to write a black and white rule that can cover every possible scenario.

A total setup, someone had to have a tripod filming that corner the whole race, and a tape measure. It was out of bounds by 6 ft... Anyone could have moved a ribbon or arrow.

MX Sports caving to KTM pressure. Regardless of the outcome there is now an asterisk.

Ktm riders were told to not go that way, and the team manager had his phone set up to film

Really?
Is this the word?
Like they knew people would take the line and this was the plan...?

They said you got twice the points if you did it more than once, so maybe that's it?

Riders were docked one position, points-wise, for each time they took the cut. Baylor was docked 4 points since that is the gap from 2nd to 3rd. Past 5th place, there is only a 1-point difference between finishes, which is why several riders were only docked 1 point.

As I said before, it's very tough to write a rules and penalties for these types of situations that cover every scenario perfectly because in this type of racing, every scenario is different. I understand why the rule was written this way, I just don't think it works all that well in practice.

I'd almost think that perhaps a 30-second penalty for such a minor infraction such as this would be more reasonable, but then what if the cut was 45 feet next time? It's hard to write black and white rules for a gray world.

It is my worthless and uneducated opinion that pedaling the track and being able to have an unlimited number of staff on the race course needs to be reeled in a bit. I think it takes away the challenge of off-road. The smaller teams cant afford to bring in their west coast staff(if they even have one) to line the track with radios. Same for national enduro. You don't need pit support between each test. Enduro's these days are half the mileage they used to be.

How did all those guys only use that cut once in a 3 hour race?

Exactly. I'd also like to know how out of 100's of racers in the PM race how those were the only 16 that got caught and its an even number split between pro and am.

And on top of that they only do 5-7 laps at most of them, so unless they catch it early they might only have a chance to hit it clean with no traffic once or twice
