Not racing but since getting a dual sport and hitting the dirt again, I find it different than it was riding a V Twin. For some reason I simply forget that I have turn signals on my bike and it definitely feels like riding in town is a series of stoplight to stoplight drag races.

I definitely do whatever it takes to get out of the blind spots of cars, but knobby tires keep me from doing anything too crazy.

I’ve always believed racers are better drivers. Hyper awareness of all directions, would be dangers or threats.

Yep that is me as well Bill.
I have a short 3 mile drive to work with 3 stoplights and I try to time the stoplights to hit green on all of them, save's gas. Smile

But it is rare that a day does not go by when some asshole is tailgating me and then goes around me and cuts me off like they're showing me something! 🤬

Then I see them at the red light and I go past them in the clear line never having to hit the brakes.

Depending on the mood I'm in after they tailgate and I know they are gonna cut me off I will speed up and box them in. Laughing

Especially on the freeway as AZ highways tend to have a LOT of small rocks and I don't like the front of my vehicle to be peppered with rocks or a rock chip on the windshield.

On my streetbike having motocross experience has saved me a few times from disaster and also to have HIGH SITUATIONAL AWARENESS.

I don’t speed a lot over 5-10 more than the limit but I do find myself taking turns faster snd braking later and harder than a normal driver. My wife always talks shit about cars not being dirt bikes to me but I am who I am.

I do know that I pretty much holeshot everybody off green lights these days. Mainly cuz all the other idiots are looking at their phones. If only I could do that during the races as well! Hahaha

I do drive somewhat aggressively, but I don't think it comes from riding. I feel like I'm a better driver than MX racer anyway.

I don't drive overly aggressive but I don't just sit in line behind the ADL's (anti destination league) and suck it up either. Racing has definitely helped make me a very alert, make time, don't get stuck in traffic type of guy behind the wheel.

Not really. I'd say it makes us drive safer. In dangerous situations you stay calm and don't panic like drivers with no race experience

I would say racing makes you more aware of your surroundings. You normally are mindful of your competitors whereabouts on the track and it carries over to the road. I think it makes you safer behind the wheel.

Exactly, I'm constantly scanning in front and back of me and subconsciously making adjustments accordingly especially on the freeway.

Do you change lanes for a better view at times, not just to pass?

Do you watch the brake lights of the cars ahead through the windshield of the guy in front of you?

I often find myself asking, "Am I the only one who wants to get home tonight?"
I have one simple request for other drivers: drive your car. Just drive it. Get moving when the light turns green. You don't have to speed, just get moving. It's irritating. Drive it, or GTFO of the way!

All of the above. The situational awareness definataly helps every aspect of my driving. I was passing at night and saw two shadows cross the headlights of an oncoming car a mile ahead. Sure enough, a herd of deer, fawns and all were crossing as I slowed enough to piss off the one I just passed.

Do you blip the throttle over bumps or rail road tracks to kind of "jump" them? At least unload the shocks

I taught my boys to accelerate, rather than brake, when approaching those metal road work plates or any kind or bump. That way they unload the suspension (smooth and gentle) rather than braking into the obstacle (haaaarsh).

I drive fast everywhere. My daily grocery getter commuter car is a 2012 Mazdaspeed 3. It sees the 120+ weekly out on the roads here in MT. My truck is a 1 ton Dodge diesel with a 6 speed manual. It isn't made to go fast so that keeps me regulated. LOL.
