Ferrandis wrapped up the 450 title yesterday, and most likely the Jett will wrap up the 250 title next weekend in Hangtown. Do they keep the numbers they have now(brand building) or do they take one of the available single digit numbers?
Poll

Single digit number or continue to build a brand with career number?

Just curious, how many signal numbers are left?

I stand to be corrected - 5, 8?

Personally, id think both DF and Jett will keep their current numbers.

Edit - JMart #6 so ill remove it.

4 may be available since Blake Bagget didnt score any points in 2021. But I could be wrong about that?

Also, Dylans long time number in gp's was 4. So that would kind of be cool to see him go full circle and run 4 in AMA. I also think eh would be a good fit for that number, with his attitude and never quit, aggressive style.

Baggett didn't score points this year. Isn't #4 available?

Pretty sure the guy has to go 2 years without scoring points. So #4 wouldn’t be available until the 2023 season.

Unless he gave it up... who knows if Blake even plans on returning to the sport?

Don’t think baggett will be coming back.

Jett should take 5. And Dylan 4.

I can see them both running 1s in Nationals, why wouldn't they?

Have to score 25 points to keep your permanent number.

4, 22, and 46 should all be available next year.

Damn, I loved it when the champion each year ran the #1 plate the following season…and your placement in the previous years series was the number you ran in the following season. How complicated was that?

Old school was way too simple. That was before “personal branding”.

I prefer the run what you earn system, but if there's one guy that could really use the career number to his advantage, it's Jett.

And I think J8tt/J8ttson looks cool.

Maybe Jett can take 22 and Cooper gets 14?

Sorry, I am a Jett fan but i don't believe a 250 rider should be able to have a single digit number.
Except No 1 defending next year,

You realize that with that line of thinking there would have only been one single digit number on the track from 2002-2007?

I think a single digit in the small bore class means you’re a bad mother fucker. See below

I didn't even think about the 22, that'd actually be incredible to carry on the legacy as an Aussie

Except No 1 defending next year,
Riders who chose single digits before a premier class championship: RC, Villopoto, Stewart, Dungey, and Tomac - just to name a few.

In fact, RC ran #6 on his 125 all the way through 1998 SX.

I see the point you are making and also agree that you should be able to run a single digit number as long as you win a national championship. BUT I do have to point out that you are correct in saying Stewart did pick a single digit number before winning a big bike championship. However, it was not by choice. He was forced to pick at least a two digit number in 2006 when the numbering system made a change. He was building a brand with 259 before that. All in all, I think he went on to do just fine with the 7!

The defending champ has to run the #1. Love this rule by the way

Dylan running the #1 would be best case scenario. It shows confidence and honestly after this year I don’t see anyone stepping up to take his title next year. He was head and shoulders above the next best guy and in his rookie season at that.

RC left Honda and the #4 in a state of perpetual used up. Hope Jett rocks the 5.

I think it would be cool to Jet run 22 or 8, and Dylan 4 under the Current number system, which I HATE!.
I would much rather see everyone from 1 to 100 or maybe even to 200
Run the numbers they earned in the previous year, why shouldn't 2-3-4-5 get credit for their accomplishments.
It would mean something just like it does for a privateer to earn a national number!
At least to me it would have a lot more meaning than the career numbers which benefit Few,
I would have bought a Carmichael, Stewart, Reed, J Lawrence, and who ever else's T-shirt I like regardless of their Number. And I was just as big of a Dungey fan wether he had #5 #1 or any other number.
To me fixing the number system it right up there with running a 125 series or two the Friday before the nationals, with the combine race, which I also hope they make into 2 short series, an east and a west!
Sorry for the long rant.

Remember Reed saying it’d be cool to try to qualify for a SX race at 40yo; that would be next year in 2022.
Probably having second thoughts after retirement, but maybe he keeps #22 one more year?

Personally, I'd love to see it, but he honestly seems pretty satisfied with his career and closing that book.

Guess we'll see, but I'm not holding my breath.

#103 Yamaha would also be just as cool.

Fellas I’m pretty sure the rules state he has to run #1 next summer.

Also, I think RC ran 6 and 9 before the permanent system was in place so not really the same thing

Correct the champions have to run their # 1 in the class they won in but neither Jett or Dylan won a SX championship so in SX they would run the number that they choose.

RC ran 6 because thats what he earned the year before, the fixed numbers didnt come in to the year after, and he got 3rd pick behind MC and Emig, as they had the more championships than he did,
