Me and my friend are looking at getting new 125s, originally we was holding out for the new Yzs but after calling around and rumors online they won’t be available until december maybe later. We’re open to Ktm, husky, and gas gas but having the issue of finding two at the same dealer until today when we found two ktm’s but were told all said and done was around 9k after all the fees. I’ve never bought a new bike but my friend bought a 21’ yz450f out the door at 9k at the beginning of the covid madness. Is that 9k in the ballpark or is their setup/delivery just crazy? Their bikes are priced at 7,499$, also is their anyway to not have to pay the setup/delivery fees?

I doubt anywhere in the USA is more expensive than California.

In Nov 2017, we paid $7750 for a new 2018 husky 125.

Given everything going on, $9k doesn't sound that good but also not unrealistic.

I guess if you wait 2 or 4 weeks and they still have them.....

Maybe ask for discount on the twofer?

The dealership was very helpful on getting the bike, they had one available and was working on getting another but couldn’t get any budging out of them. Tuesday we will have cash in hand for both bikes but was willing to go get financed to get them paid for today but they was only willing to do 50$ off of each bike.

I would wait until December when the YZ125s are available. Cool

You only I've once, so if you can't get any action after calling around a bunch of places, then go buy the bikes.

Instead of cash off, maybe ask for a free tire or oils or hear or something.

But call around, I've saved 1 or 2 grand before by doing a 2 or 3 hour drive

It’s hard to get a deal when the dealers can’t keep bikes on the showroom floor.

i understand that but how often do they have the opportunity to sell two bikes at one time? I understand they can’t take 1500 off but maybe take off assembly fees off or something? Not trying to be a dick just a genuine question if that’s doable

Sellers market right now…expect to pay junk fees, and no discount off msrp…$9k OTD sounds about right to me…I’m seeing people asking $4or $5k (if they are in good shape) for 10 year old YZ 125’s around here (asking, not saying they are selling that high).

Sucks to buy anything right now, without something to also sell. Better to sell high and buy high…than just buy high.

Go buy the damn things before any more time passes. Life is way too short. Do a “spoke with your wallet “ thread and report back after riding. Those bikes are great. I paid 12k for my 2022 ktm 350sxf……..totally worth it as I’m loving riding it. Worth every penny……the amount of fun that you will have will be immeasurable.

I was quoted about the same 8 months ago for a '21 TC125 here in SoCal.

A "deal" right now is finding two 125s at the same dealer, or even in the same area. I work at a dealer and 125s are hard to come by right now.

Life's short, buy the bike(s)!

I completely understand where you guys are coming from, if that’s what they’re worth i can’t argue that. I’ve never had a new bike so paying 9k for one when the most i’ve ever bought one for is 3500$ is just crazy to me but it is what it. I’d really like to wait for the Yzs but the weather in East Tennessee is just gonna be perfect for the next two/three months so we’re trying to take advantage of it. I think we’re going to try to work something out with the dealer that had two for us, but if anyone on here knows someone or works at a dealership that could maybe help us out within 500 miles we’d be willing to travel for them! I’d be beyond excited to pick them up in crates to save the assembly fee and just have the coolness factor of unboxing my own bikeTongue

Always an option to find a leftover as jrid stated, or buy a newer used one and let them take the “new bike” hit. I totally understand you can’t beat a new bike, but what’s a couple hundred in bearings, cables, top end, and elbow grease to save a few grand? That’s also if used ones are showing up in your area…. Good luck with whatever route you end up taking. No matter what color it is, a 125 is a good time.

Buy a couple of TM’s. They show up in a crate.

I would never give that much for a 125. Keep looking. That price is loaded with bullshit fees.

My brother is a Kaw/Polaris/TM dealer here and he doesn't tack on that crap. Although many dealer do it, some still don't. Shop around. Hell, I think he could sell you a TM 125 for that or less. lol

I know it's a sellers market now and has been for the last year and a half. But that's just over the top imo.

Sellers market still, although seems to be slowing a little. Have a buddy that has a "relationship" with a dealer, "sponsors" his kid (who has gone to LL the last 3 years). Bought 3 bikes from his this year alone. Wanted to get a 450 for himself, said he can do MSRP so not as good of a deal as his last bikes he knew the market and said ok. Went to do paperwork and dealer tried to add $1k for set-up and junk fees (not tax). He said he's going home and ripping all the dealer graphics off his kids bikes, dealer changed his mind and dropped the junk fees....in the end guess what I'm saying is unless you have a relationship with a dealer they most likely aren't cutting you any breaks on bikes until they stop selling...

Your best bet is to try to shop/secure a bike before it actually hits the showroom floor. That's what I did when I got my 250F. Just ask for OTD pricing and be prepared to put down the deposit right then. So if you want the YZ (or whatever bike you prefer) just see who has the best price when they come in and put money down. It seems that bikes already on the showroom seem to be marked up higher.

Selling (2) bikes at the same time, is not as rare as you think. I've had people come in and pay cash for $25,000.00 Goldwings, and the margin is way better on that bike than a couple of dirtbikes...

In my experience, selling 1, 2, 3, or more bikes to the same person doesn't change the price, even with the pre-covid market.

And as Robbi said, when sidexsides and touring bike are 20K-45K, it makes the buying 2 bikes for 18K at the same time less impressive

Well I wasn’t there for the details but it sounds to me like he didn’t have a relationship as he thought he did . He had to threaten action to get a “ deal “ which speaks volumes. If he told him msrp then switched it up when he was there to finalize the transaction I’d say my loyalty to him wasn’t very valuable and I would have most likely walked . Im sure there are plenty of legit relationships out there between dealer/customer but me giving the same dealer my business over the years doesn’t necessarily constitute a good/loyal bond/friendship. If I have to threaten a friend to reciprocate fairness and loyalty that I’ve shown them , they aren’t a true friend .

With that said , ive bought many bikes /parts from my local dealer and i know him very well. To the point of getting new bikes in the crate . I’d say we are friendly with each other but not expecting anything from one another....I got a quote on a new bike a few weeks ago and was given the ol Covid markup price . I’m not mad and didn’t get crazy with them but I’m also not going to go spend my hard earned cash with them either. No big deal really, I don’t need a bike that bad and they don’t need to sell it to me for any less than they feel necessary . It is what it is!

Sorry about the rant I just get tired of hearing about crazy prices and dealer/ customer relationships . I’m guessing a lot of the true relationships won’t be mentioned here either...

I understand dirt bike margins are small and not a big deal for these dealers, but if anything comes out of this last year regarding your dealer, you will find out who is stand up & who is gouging….I have 2 dealers that I have bought several units from each and I know where I”m going from now on & where I”m done going….

I too was going to buy a new KTM 125 or 150 this year. But after realizing that it was going to cost me around $10,000, it no longer became an option. No friggin way am I ever going to pay that much for a dirt bike.

So I called Tony Allessi and asked him if Mikey had any spare 125's he would be willing to sell. Tony hooked me up with one of Mikey's YZ125 race bikes for waaay less than $10,000.

The engine was built by Varner. It's a 134 with the zero inertia crank and a few other Varner specialties. Holy crap is all I can say! Varner has been building my 2-strokes since the early 90's, and his work has always been amazing. But I would say that this is most impressive 2-stroke engine I have ever ridden. A mid-range monster. I ride this bike a gear higher everywhere on the track. And on starts, I am 1/2 way down the start straight before the 450's begin to catch me. And I have yet to find a 125 or 150 that can out accelerate this bike.

My point is that for around 1/2 the price of a new bike, you can buy a used YZ125 and have Varner build the engine. You'll end up with a much stronger running 125 for 1/2 the money.

I will add that when I bought the bike the engine had just been built- essentially brand new.

That's sharp looking 144 you have there : )

So if you bought it in 2021, he dropped it off for that rebuild in 2013?
