I haven't seen that kind of hype for Deegan. Ya he's wildly popular with kids and most fans agree he's going to be good. But most fans who really follow the sport and know it's history know you don't crown a kid before he's even pro. Doesn't come close to the Jett hype that's for sure

To be fair, Jett has earned his hype. Of you compare what Haiden has done next to riders like Roczen, Herlings, Lawrence, Stewart and Pastrana at the same age it’s not that impressive.

But at the other hand, we live in other times now with social media that were none excistent when some of the other riders were 15.

Your last paragraph sums it up perfectly.

Think of Pastrana. He gained a lot of popularity due to Freestyle MX and the X games being very popular back in the late 90s and early 2000s. He then turned pro at MX, where he most likely didn’t gain much more of a following than he already had. Then he retires and starts Nitro Circus where he becomes almost a household name.

It’s 2021 and kids are becoming famous and wealthy from YouTube. Haiden is trying to capitalize on that. Why fault him for that? He’s a kid that’s learning how to market himself. Whether you like it or not he’s also going to attract a whole bunch of people to races just to see him.

The kid has put in more work than a lot of people do in a lifetime. Let him have a little fun too because when he hits the pro ranks it’s sink or swim.
People say "riders need more money in the sport" kids making money on social media and they hate them for it

Love or hate Deegan he will be bring people to the sport similar to what James did, that's a win win for all of us.

Maybe it’s him taunting other riders after he passes them…maybe it’s him complaining about Evan Ferry controlling the first turn after Evan yarded him off the start. Maybe it’s because he’s so good, and as you know how people can be, they tend to hate on the favorite. Whatever the trivial reason is that people hate Haiden, I feel like there’s no legit reason, and I think those things make the racing that much more interesting; after all, some people not only like to see their favorite win, but their favorite’s nemesis get beat. Some people hate on the clean-cut personality and some on the bad-boy personality. Other people like the whole yin and yang, good and bad, protagonist, antagonist shit show as it often becomes.

“If I had this I could have been that” is such a pathetic argument. You don’t have the talent and ambition to be a top tier professional athlete. Nothing more and nothing less. These guys (the champions and legends, I’m not talking about a guy who qualified for a few nationals) have such a level of determination and grit about them that they would have been successful in any other job they had chosen. If your dad had the money to fund your racing to a higher level then maybe you would have qualified for some nationals. Maybe you would have been a little bit better of a rider than you are. But your dads money would not have taken you over the hump of “really good” and “great.” Dungey was great. The fact that you honestly think you could have been at Dungeys level is absolutely laughable.

Well I was going for my pro license and ran out of money because this sport is a money pit. And then the 12 month criteria expires and you have to start again. So yeah if I had more money I would have went pro.

Preaching to the choir.

Until your thread, I haven’t really seen any negative threads or comments towards the kid.

Got nothing against the kid, but it seems he took the anti-tuck rhetoric a little too far. The ten gallon monster energy hat is a little weird to me.

Definitely talented and you don’t have his results without hard work no matter how much advantage you are given. Saying that, they could take some time to reflect on “believe the hype” and how that worked out when you try to write your story….

It's pathetic, being a dad in Brian's position he's going to give the best he can for his kid to succeed, what's wrong with that? Everyone else would do the same for their child.

What brian has done for haiden is teach him to have work ethic that kid works his ass off to be the best and it's clear his is very determined to do so, that's a pretty rare trait to have being a "rich kid".

Having everything given to you on a platter doesn't equal success you have to apply yourself, look at his younger brother he doesn't really have the same drive and the results speak for themselve.

Anyway, I'm sure Brian has told his son that there will be a lot of haters.
Not everyone will do that for their kid, in fact a lot of parents pay zero attention to their kids. That is why I like and respect the Deegan's . Back when the Mulisha was a thing, Deegan acted like a dick, saw it with my own eyes. But in reality that was all show, he seems to be a great father and for that I have the utmost respect for him.

And I think that Haiden could have turned out a heck of a lot worse, look who he rides with on a daily basis, a who's who of the sport. But he keeps himself mostly in check from what I have seen and makes time for his fans. Now I am really excited to see what Huckson brings to the table, he may end up being the freestyle rider, since he just seems to send it.

Never said he was in the same league, but bringing exposure and fans to the sport potentially could be as big.
