This is exactly how you handle something like this. Nobody at fault. Shit happens when you’re racing and these kids were going for it. Hope everyone is ok.

Unfortunately no because Schoolboy 1 took place this morning before the live broadcast started.

I don't really give a crap about downvotes but everyone who downvoted me I'd like to hear your side of the discussion. It intrigues me. Imagine you own a company, you've invested time and money into a rider...they make the podium at THE amateur national championship of the year and they forget to mention you and close their speech with "everyone I forgot...thanks"...you're cool with that? Explain to me how that's ok.

I may be old school but 20 years ago I made sure to remember every sponsor that helped me get to the podium. Even if I had to look down at my bike or my jersey, helmet, sleeves, etc. I took it very serious to mention everyone. Even if it's self serving, you make yourself look better by remembering everyone that helped you get there. Once you hit teen years and get to the 85's/supermini and above, you're getting a LOT of help. I was just surprised it seems to happen constantly on the podium at LL's. Maybe I'm out of touch because we used to race nearly every weekend and now it seems they race 4-5 times a year so we were more trained on it. Even local events that meant nothing, the top 3 always went out of their way to mention or promote sponsors.

I thought we hated it when riders mentioned their sponsors.

I didn't downvote, but either way...

Just my personal opinion, nothing more, if the company is on the bike, on the gear, on the trailer or whatever, or we just straight up know who's using what, why do I need to hear every single person and brand involved in a program? Especially the little kids, they have enough to deal with. Little 4 year old just worked his ass off, thanking Bell helmets, 100%, Monster Energy, Thor, and a whole laundry list of names... it's painful.

I get thanking Mum and Dad, your team, your trainer maybe, even Jesus if that's your thing, although to me that is a little cringey at a public sporting event (I understand that's a bit different in the US, and it is their right to do so, I'm not complaining) but I'm sure I'm not the only person who switches off entirely when they start rattling off names?

When you have a 10-20 name list from everybody in attendance it's gone too far, surely?

When these kids on the rostrum lay into a long list of sponsors, are they actually sponsored by these companies with free product, or just given a discount off the retail price?
Seem's to me a lot of kids say they are sponsored by XYZ company just to sound more credible?

These kids are definitely getting free stuff. I remember my first sponsor of 20% off or something like that at a local dealership. I told everyone who would listen I was now “sponsored” lol

If I am not mistaken, Matt Walker at Moto X Compound actually did a little seminar on podium speeches for the kids at his facility who were going to Lorettas and such. I get thanking the sponsors because in some cases they do a large part, but for me I like hearing about the race from their perspective.

List of riders who didn’t thank everyone so we know who you’re referring to?

The reason I downvoted is because these kids are still amateurs. That means they are learning how to be pros. I would expect that all of the kids that missed thanking sponsors will be reminded who they missed. Nothing wrong with not being fully polished, it's all part of the learning curve.

People are so fast to be critical of others these days without ever giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I see what you’re getting at, but for the most part, these are kids up on the podium. They’re tired/excited, probably a lot of things after getting on the podium at LL. For some, it’s their first time up there and probably first time thanking sponsors live instead of on an online post where they have time to make sure they mention everyone.

I’m sure many are super nervous as well. I know I had a hard enough time speaking in front of my classmates that I saw every day when it was time to do presentations in school.

With the podium speech debate, I'm totally with you Kawi.

The one thing I would like to point out was the girl who won 11-16 Girls. Kyleigh Stallings. Wow. She was pure class. That's one of the best podium speeches you will see all year. From anyone. Including the pros. No wonder she already has a Monster deal and some big time sponsors. That's what some riders should be working on. Actually selling the brands when you get a chance to, not just rattling off a hundred brand names at a million miles an hour. No one cares.

In contrast though, the girl who finished third in the same race who couldn't get up on the podium cos she was in tears sobbing, devastated at her third place finish. WTF. Like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ??? You've just finished third at Loretta's in the first moto, are still a huge chance to win a championship and you are too upset to speak to Weege cos you finished third and need to go back to your pit. Are you actually serious??

11-16? i.e children? Are you being serious that someone shouldn't cry because they finished 3rd? Better to cry than have someone who doesn't care.

Just like anything we don't know the whole story so why judge a girl who is under 16 years old. She may be a drama queen but she also may be just uber competitive and has a ton of pressure that she puts on herself. I sure hope it's not the case but she may have a bad set of parents that are extremely hard on her. I hope that's not the case and I'm accusing no one but we have no idea so it's not worth mentioning.

People need to remember that these are kids and we really have no idea what is the backstory. I remember a local kid that when he lost his dad would actually beat him. He raced pro but never reached his potential.

Yes I'm serious. The girls at the front are older and eligible to go pro in the next 12-24 months. How can you not be humble enough to accept third place at the biggest amateur race there is. That is indefensible. Either she has way too much pressure on her from her family, or has an ego that is way too big.

Come on, Alan.

How in the world can you not judge a young person who is in the middle of the largest hormonal changes in their life as if they are an adult with years of life behind them dealing with life’s ups and downs?!?!?!?!?!

Seems sort of soft and squishy to me……

It's impossible not to judge when the girl who had just taken out the moto win was amazing on the podium. If you are at the races and you see a red hot favourite for the title finish 20th after a terrible moto, then you can understand they might be upset and emotional. But a third place finish with 2 motos to go. C'mon.

Judge not lest ye be judged.

I don't know the situation so I will refrain from skewering the girl. Hell, I didn't even pick on high school girls when I was in High School.

Here's my take. My son currently races (85's) and has several sponsors (nothing free) but heavily discounted. When we sign up for races, we always make sure to list every single sponsor. My son is not the fastest kid but he holds his own. I've actually done a lot of work creating his rider resume and get on social media. It is a bit of a pain but the payoff is significant. We get discounts on gear, tires, oil, ect. Not only that, but I've met some big names in the industry that deal with Factory teams/riders. Why is that important, because any bit of help at our level makes a difference. I have some parents who don't want to put in the time and effort but those are the same parents that are paying full price for things that we get for almost nothing.

So we have to put decals on our graphics, so what. It's the least we can do. I also make sure my son conducts himself like a professional because that's what he is working to be. He's a shy kid so it takes some effort for him to be an extravert. Although he's only 12, he's fully aware what he needs to do in order to receive support. It's part of the game per se. My son had to do a promotional video for one of his sponsors and he did it with out question because they reached out to us. Knowing how shy my kid is, I thought it was cool. He sucked it up and did the video. To be completely honest, I think thanking people who help your kid/you has to be done. If someone takes the times to support a kid, then I feel we own it to them to show our appreciation. Why wouldn't we? My son has had some of the same sponsors since he was on 50's. We look at it as being part of their family. Some of his sponsors, I can call and talk to them directly. Not many people can do that. As an example, there's an oil shortage (i.e. stuck on a boat somewhere). My son is sponsored my Motorex, I picked up the phone and called "the guy." Long story short, I had enough oil to last a season shipped to my door, no questions asked. He wished my son and I good luck and that was it. The average person would not be able to do this. My point, there's advantage of knowing people. So we thank them. We have also gotten stuff before the "normal" rider does. I'm also very fortunate to know a few current pros so that helps as well. In the end, give the kids a break when they are thanking people who support them! This sport is not cheap so every little bit helps and adds up. Just my take.

I usually stay out of these stupid debates but you got me on this one. When I traveled with a MX/SX champion as an amateur, when he lost a race he thought he should have won, he would cry and not talk to any one for a few minutes. If she is upset and wants to cry and not talk to any one then so be it. With age and experience of defeat and victories, she will learn to control her emotions as needed.
If she upset you by doing that then go grab a tissue and cry with her.

Yes I'm serious. The girls at the front are older and eligible to go pro in the next 12-24 months. How can you not be humble enough to accept third place at the biggest amateur race there is. That is indefensible. Either she has way too much pressure on her from her family, or has an ego that is way too big.
I've read some things in my life that I can't comprehend, this is one of them. you must be trolling.

Crying = lack of professionality.

I have no idea how old you are but you think it’s ok to rag on a teenage girl for showing emotion? If you don’t see that as being messed up then yes, you have issues within yourself. I sincerely hope you’re about 12 years old yourself because then I can understand why you’re so juvenile in your feelings.
