I would like to see a kid that doesn't have the resources like Deegan win a few motos. Either way I hope they all stay safe and have fun.

He will be back on a big bike soon enough. I don't watch his videos anymore but have nothing against him. He is a rising star on a minibike. Good luck to him and his family.

That's why i don't understand why people care so much about this. All these races mean next to nothing, especially for guys like Deegan that will get their fair shot at it as a pro from day 1 with good bikes. Things start to matter once you hit the pro level.

JT talks about this on his latest podcast where he compares the US amateur racing setup to the EMX setup, and how far off the US amateur races really is to actual pro racing.

It will be interesting to watch Deegan when he turns pro. What he does now as a 15 year old on a supermini with a taller seat on is not that interesting to be honest.

As Jett Lawrence said during his LL's interview.. "the shorter motos, the tighter tracks, not as rough. I want to go pro. its just an amateur race"

As said above in a post, 5 races a year isn't going to prepare any one. Compared to these guys overseas who race weekly, on full size tracks that are 25min moto's, all from the age of 12-16.
But I also don't understand why there isn't more races?
Even in AUS, there is races every month to attend.

I'm not fully aware of the whole American amateur scene lay out through the year other than LL. but can some one explain why there is so little races and why they are not on pro MX tracks?

At this stage in the game, Deegan's resources are more than likely no different than Cochran's. They're both factory supported minicycle racers with access to factory minicycle parts & mechanics, and they both get travel/bike stipends from their factories (I seem to remember someone saying mid-six figures for AC), plus gear and personal sponsorship money. Maybe they got into the sport at different financial levels, but I doubt Brian is putting as much money into Haiden's amateur career as some of you think he is (same goes for Cochran).

The deegans really do not like the cochrans. I would be surprised.

Not to circle back, but with the earlier comments about Deegan holding back in Supermini and occasionally riding 125 but no 250f seat time, Brian brought it up and said Jeremy McGrath had advised him to hold back and max out each bike before moving on. The top riders once you get to 250f are undeniable and it seems many kids get pushed into it to early only to get swallowed up and fade into obscurity. Yeah an overly dramatic way to put it, but makes sense to hold back and think long term.

Very true! I'm willing to bet their parents don't have to really pay for all that much now. Some are acting like these parents are not getting bikes, mechanics, and money just to go racing. I'm willing to bet they are making more than some of the pros we root for on t.v. every weekend. I know a few top 20 pros that are scraping by. I'm talking legit pros making mains too. Gotta suck knowing a kid who hasn't lined up on a big bike or really done anything is making 10-20 X's as much as you.

Those kids have likely worked harder to get to where they're at than most adults will work at anything.

Mason Davis from the PNW is actually a very good quarterback. Big kid. He was top 15 LL supermini last year. My boy has raced him several times and the kid is next level. And deegan will whoop him. Double next level.

Hammer 663s
Unless Davis got a lot faster in the last year he isn'y anywhere near next level speed. My youngest raced him quite a few times when on minis & Davis was never even close to him. Granted C is a bit older but was always on stock bikes & usually outweighed everyone by a good 20lbs. The top on the NW 85/Supermini class isn't what it once was.

My youngest had same issue as Deegan with a last minute growth spurt. He absolutely loved riding superminis and it was the biggest growth time for him as a rider but he grew out of them within a couple of months and that was that. I wasn't going to throw money money at building a fire breathing 112. No hurry for Deegan so why not have one last hurrah before it's time for big bikes & the real work begins. Talent pool is much deeper once off minis for sure........

There are local/regional races every weekend and in California the classes are as competitive as anywhere in the world. To think that there is a lack of competition or full size tracks and seat time is way off base.

That's why people actually race, isn't it. We can sit here and talk about it all day long, but in the end it's moto by moto. To say that Ferry owns him is a pretty ridiculous statement.

What is ridiculous to me is HD has grown rapidly, been riding a full size bike and now his dad and him are retreating. He's worrying about being the baddest on a mini and flogging wheels to kids at the time he should be stepping right up.
Looks a lot like duckin and weavin with plenty of hedging and a metaphorical back flip.

So you think he should switch off the bike he's been training on all year because he hit a growth spurt a couple months before LL? That's the dumbest shit i've ever read, and I know you wouldn't pull that shit with your own kid.

Throughout this thread, I've been trying to figure out why a (presumably) grown man would take so much pleasure in shitting on a 15 year old, and for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

The sport and everybody in it will be better off if Deegan is as good as advertised. How many kids watch that family's YouTube and don't even ride dirt bikes? How many of those kids are begging their parents for a new bike. Like them or hate them, they have social media and promotion figured out. You know what they say "A rising tide raises all boats."
The dislike for a teenager is lost on me. Pretty much rooting for a kid to fail.

He’s 15 same age as Casey Cochran. No one is saying Casey should move up then why should Haiden ? Everyone is saying he is hiding from Evan Ferry but Evan is a year older 16 and was racing a super mini when he was 15 . Everyone needs to chill Deegan has said this is his last race on a super mini he’s on a big bike after this race.

Not sure how much Deegan has left in the tank but that was looking to get interesting before Cochran got stuffed by a lapper and lost over a second. Casey was slowly reeling him in from a bad start but I guess it's possibly Deegan has more in the tank. I hope we see them both get good starts or both get shitty starts together in the middle of the pack...both of them were hauling ass.

I'm just stoked we have two kids with a great rivalry brewing and both of them are fast as fuck. Hopefully they both stay healthy and we can enjoy their battles as they rise through the ranks.

Not sure why a lot of people are shitty on this kid. Jealous perhaps. In the end, he's a kid and we should root for all of them to succeed. In the end, the kids are the future of the sport. That being said, society as a whole are full of assholes with the "pile on" mentality. I could give two shits about the Deegan's but I root for all kids. Unless they are racing my kid lol. Just being honest lol.
Lol well said.

I agree. I have no real problem with any of the kids. I don't care who wins. I just root for them to all be the best that they can be, as lame as that sounds. That being said, Deegan's are very big on social media and getting their name and "brand" out there as much as possible. And when you do that and draw attention to yourself, you are opening yourself up to criticism. That's just how it is.

I watched that first moto and it did not disappoint-both these kids are bad asses on a dirt bike and their skill and speed is no fluke. When you strip all the noise out, each of them is on the dirt bike by themselves trying to make it happen. Best of luck to both of them. Impressive.

I always find comparing different career paths of riders is pointless. Guadagnini who held the red plate at one point rode 125’s two years ago as a 17 year old. Meanwhile Jett Lawrence was on a 250 at 14. Many wondered what the hell Vohland was doing and it has worked out pretty good so far. Meanwhile Dax Bennick (who is the same age as Deegan?) has been on big bikes for ages since he hit his growth spurt about at the same time he was born. Roczen and Herlings both jumped to EMX250 straight from 85’s and to MX2 immediatly when turning 15. While guys like Prado and Gajser worked through the ranks slower. Heck, Romain Febvre rode supermoto at the age most kids are turning pro in motocross. My point is, do what feels best for you. There’s not one right way to do it.
