Max Anstie came across as a Dean Wilson type guy, pretty much impossible to not like.

Damn shame it turns out he's actually the opposite of that

Did anyone actually witness or record the incident where it's said that it "looked like it was going to get physical" with HEP staff member....OR, is "looked like it was going to get physical" being blown outta proportion? I know what it meant 30-40 years ago, but these days, that could be anything from two people getting up in each others faces, about to throw down, needing to be physically separated, to someone saying something (possibly mean) to you that you don't like.

I’m a fan of Max and was surprised to hear he was mad about this. To me Matthes’ criticism was fair, like he said you don’t see the team posting when Max crashes or doesn’t ride well because that would be unprofessional.

I was standing around the pit. The getting physical part is being blown out of proportion. Someone there told Matthes to leave and he stood outside the awning rather than walk away and that escalated it a bit. Myself and other people were there getting autographs from Hartranft while it was going down, didn’t seem like a big deal at the time.

What about riders who are on 1st tier teams who are (relatively) underperforming?

But I do understand your loyalty to Anstie given your both from the Island....I'm just not particularly a fan and his wife showing her ignorance certainly didn't help any.
It’s relevant because that’s the reasoning you give for disliking him.

Which must mean you are only a fan of riders on top tier teams, right?

To preach online a dislike for someone without giving a justifiable reason is a bit lame bud.

Not being a dick as I see you are not from the US but the saying you were looking for was "That's Marketing 101 (One O One)." As in you were taking the most basic marketing class.

AWESOME on Max for calling in tonight and getting ahead of it before it turns into something nobody wants. He comes off as such a fun guy, and I’ve rooted for him since he’s been here. It’s obvious to me he’s a passionate hard worker who deserves the best support he can get. Hopefully this turns into something we can laugh about, and he can re-focus and twist the piss out of that Zook.

Yeah, if only Matthes didn't have an internet radio show motocross and supercross would be as big as the NFL. How on earth is Matthes constraining the sport? Please explain your logic here. No one outside of die hard moto people have ever heard of Steve Matthes of PulpMX.

You know it's kind of funny, I heard the entire Matthes rant on this and thought it was pretty well founded... and more like advice than anything else.

At the same time, Matthes does a show on July 13th including Billy Grotto of Twisted Tea and pumps up the HEP Suzuki program a big deal. I would think the guys at HEP would get together and put their emotional baggage away considering that Matthes did a great job promoting their main sponsor.

It seems the thing to have the chicks involved so much more with the euro riders. Look at musquin and dylans chicks, they are so involved they might as well be riding shotgun on the back of the bikes.

Both Dylan Ferrandis' girlfriend and Mathilde Musquin support their rider boyfriends/husbands...and they do it in a very positive way, from what I see. That said, I've never seen either one of them spout off on social media about anything at all...and certainly not anything derogatory regarding their significant others bike or team. Frankly, Max's girlfriend should be told to STFU. She's not the rider, she's not under contract, and she has ZERO to say about any of it.

Cairoli's wife is another euro that comes to mind, similar to Marv and DF14. Separate series, but shes pretty active and positive also.

I've simply never had a reason to be a fan, then to hear he has this reaction over something his wife was clearly 100% in the wrong about makes me not a fan. So basically, his wife being an idiot and then him making it worse by backing up her idiocy has taken me from really not even caring about him to actually not liking him.

The irony of him saying Matthes "talks shit" when his Wife had shit talked his employer for the world to see is literally comical to me.

Is that a good enough reason for you? Does it hurt your feelings? Anything else you want to know....bud....

Can we all just take a second and acknowledge JT$'s incredible friendship with Steve. The dude offered to throw fisticuffs if he was there and things got physical. We all just need a friend like JT$.

From my standpoint, he has repeatedly talked down upon other podcasts, Gypsy tales comes to mind. More people reporting and creating podcasts is great for Moto. Everyone now goes to Matthes for any sort of gossip and what he says is gospel. Let alone he talks to some of his listeners like they’re gum on the bottom of his shoe. He drops big news yes, but who’s to say other people couldn’t and just isn’t doing what he does to create content for a podcast.

But you said he's holding the sport back. How does he hold the sport back? Do people need his permission to start podcasts?

"He drops big news yes, but who’s to say other people couldn’t " - no one is saying that, but, again, how does that hold the sport back? Matthes has over 25 years in this industry and the contacts to go with it. Add that with wanting to be a person that breaks news and he's going to break more than his share.

I'd be mad too if my wife got called out on pulp for making a mistake. We all make mistakes. Did she not delete it briefly after? I've done and said a lot of shit I wasn't supposed to either, and I'm glad it doesn't make world wide radio. She shouldn't have said that, and perhaps Steve should have just said a certain riders wife said something bad about a team, that shouldn't happen. BUT people love the drama just as much or more than the racing... I'm more upset they didn't even really wow about eli's ride in the review pod.

Keeping the circle small (Matthes,Weege, Racer X), keeps the outside influence small and that’s how he’s going to make himself relevant. He criticizes everyone. Riders don’t like him, and talking down upon other podcasts and questioning their credentials doesn’t make him appear to want more than that small circle to report on anything. “Does he even go to the races?” Ring a bell?

But doesn't he have other podcasters on all the time that are outside of that racerx circle? The guys from SML, Daniel Blair, Darkside, Lewis Phillips and hell he's even had Cooksey in studio before. He even said recently he asked Gypsy tales to be on the show but was declined.

He even hired Anton to go cover a race when transworld folded and he was out of a job until SML got going.

Max needs to be asking his wife why she's on her phone instead of in the kitchen. This sh*t is end result of women's suffrage.

"Riders don't like him" Yawn....

As bad ass as professional motocross racers are.....most of them have fragile little egos. The ones who don't like Matthes are usually upset that he called it like he sees it, how many of them have come back around and now go on his show?

For example: Anderson doesn't like Matthes because Matthes said some of the passes he was making were douchebag moves....guess what....they were douche moves! Anyone who has followed this sport for more than 2 weeks knows that Anderson rides like a tool sometimes, the truth hurts.

From where I'm sitting Matthes talks more truth than any other "media" or "reporter" this sport has had in my 30 years of fandom. To say he is keeping the sport from growing is honestly just blind ignorance. Were you a homeschooled motocross racer? Laughing

I think it should be team only in the pits and post race tent. It just seems silly pro athletes need their mommy and girlfriends wives etc to wipe their face and give them water. Looks unprofessional and you dont see it in other sports. I am also 100% dont post about your husbands job. Factory,IT, construction or pro racer. Love me some max he seems super cool.

I started listening to Gypsy because of Pulp. He gives them a ton exposure. I don’t think Steve cares about promoting his own show.
