Pretty gnarly, he was lucky to even get over it, you can clearly see it go down, then hesitate for a split second, the try and go back up. No wonder he was so pissed.

Notice it doesn't fall, his front wheel pushes it down and it springs back up and catches his bike under the engine. Looks like something was caught under the gate below ground. I've seen this before on our gate. A rock or piece of wood is usually the culprit.

Definitely should have been a restart.

I notice in the podium pics CP was already in jeans and tennis shoes. Wonder if that gate drop caused him to drop something...in his pants.

He wouldn't be the 1st rider to finish a moto carrying an extra "load". Cool

Freakin b.s. that they didn't black flag him for that. Should have red flagged the race, black flagged CP, and black flagged J-law just for good measure.

Seriously, that's gotta screw with a guy's reflexes. Can't imagine CP getting a good start in the next moto.

Ouch!

I've seen that happen with a track that had a new start gate set up.
Thing looked like it was friggin spring-loaded a couple times.

Wonder if that was the case with Lakewood?

That sucks for Pourcel, big time. Sometimes gates bounce when they fall, if the gate doesn't hit the dirt (dirt could be lower) and the gate bounces off the metal at the base of the start gate. If you look at the gate on the other side of the start house, it was bouncing also. So the dirt must have been lower and the gate hit the metal before hitting the dirt the deaden the fall of the starting gate.

And then clean out any dirt that is in there ...


I had no idea the gates could bounce like that.

Not sure how their doing it in the Outdoor series, but the AMA made it illegal for the mechanic’s to slam the gates down in Supercross after the rider leaves for the parade lap. They say it damages the gate. So if Pourcel's mechanic wasn’t allowed to slam the gate, he wouldn’t have known if it was going to bounce. And you say they clean the dirt out and yes that’s right but in this case it seemed to work against him. It was a strange deal that’s for sure and a big bummer for Pourcel.

Whoever edited that segment for video could have waited 2 seconds longer before throwing in the huge big number to obstruct the view on what they were reporting on. Sometimes......... ?
