"Intent to enter" is not nearly as a good "bikes will start shipping in December..." .......... will have to wait and see if triumph ever makes a bike....
Entering the mx market isn't a great idea.... it's an absolutely packed marketplace, especially with ktm going crazy the last few years....
I would dig seeing more competition, but the bikes already on the market are stellar.... for triumph to actually have success,, they are gonna have to bring new tech to the table... and good luck with that.... #cannondalefail
Correct me if I am wrong.. but I think the OP is taking a " I'll believe it when I see it " stance on the news of triumph creating an off-road and mx bike.

Yes, that’s what he’s doing.
You could paint me in the skeptical box as well. An off-road bike? Sure I can see that. A professional MX/SX team with their own bike? I’m kind of also in the I’ll believe it when I see it camp. Maybe if they could present something that somewhat resembles a modern motocross bike I’d be less skeptical but until then… Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the idea but which top rider in their right mind would sign to this unproven/untested motorcycle and team?
Trident Powersports comes to mind, with all this Triumph talk. Like in the other thread (one of them anyway), the Bajaj link to KTM and Triumph breeding another colour of KTM/Husky/GasGas seems a reasonable assumption though obviously not definitive in any way yet, but it could still be real interesting depending on what they change up couldn't it?
You have to assume getting Ricky, Jeff, Enduro guy, etc on board they'll be pretty determined to see this through? But the whole announcement with no pics or details never feels good... not even a quick render or a basic "450 and 250 four stroke enduro and mx models, then expanding the range later" quote.
Don't know what to make of it, wish them the best, but who knows.
This project was well underway when I left Triumph nearly 2 years ago, and even then I saw some sketches that looked promising. I obviously don't know what they've been up to since, but there's a lot of knowledge and expertise in the company.
Triumph as a business is very conservative, so they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't think they could do it well.
I'm speculating, but I would imagine this project is not expected to make money by itself, but rather to add value/legitimacy to their adventure bikes, and potentially act as a test bed for new ideas for the rest of their range. And let's be honest, that's probably why KTM pour so much money into racing and why Suzuki won't.

Not to mention the homologation rules for the US…
The team wouldn't have to sign top guys in year one. They could sign guys like Tickle and Chisholm who would score them points outdoors and make main events in SX.
Those type of guys have years of racing experience under their belts and would be a great asset to Triumph.
No idea when they plan on going racing, but if it's in the next couple of years they could grab some of the guys that will be starting the downside of their careers and build from there.
Wilson, Anderson, Bogle, Savatgy, Osborne, etc.
It would allow those type of guys to continue making a living racing dirt bikes with a lot less pressure.
You don't know what you're talking about.
The frame mixed alloy with carbon fiber inserts, and the twin cam engine was developed by the Vertemati bros.
The ignition, clutch and transmission were not even on the same side as a KTM.

Rome wasn't built in a day.
Mav', thanks for saving my time by writing exactly what I was thinking.
Triumph could do exactly what Beta is doing right now with Van Horebeek.
It was a beautiful bike.
Yet I think I miss never seeing the WRM even more...

Now that one I don't remember seeing... It looks like a lot of hand made and pre-production parts. How close was it? Did they have the funding? What year was this?

Triumph isn’t just a small bed start up company they have higher bike sells then Harley and Indian and been building bikes just as long as Harley . And I know they already have a large dealer network to make it work . I know I will buy one

I saw pictures of this italian wonder for the first time in 2007. CRF inspired original engine, very unique frame mixing alloy/carbon fiber spars and steel tubing with adjustable steering angle, carbon swingarm and subframe, ti and mag everywhere. You were supposed to be able to buy one for something like 25000$. Not sure if any were actually produced. They were around for a few years, raced MX1 in 2007 or 8 with Cristian Beggi, were used by a private SM team... Can't find any action photo or vid, though... A new version came out in 2009 with a more conventional chassis, and they just disappeared after a while.

BMW aren’t a small bed start up company either but their foray into off-road didn’t end too well. Hoping Triumph better success.

Had one of these...great looking bike with lots of issues. It sat in then BMW dealers service department for a few months. It kept shearing the woodruff key on the ignition. BMW finally admitted that the taper on the crank end was off and that there was no parts to fix it. They didn't offer to turn the end to fit either. Like have it welded and the fit properly.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone brought up that bike. So let's just consider it: is there anyone anywhere that thinks BMW couldn't have gone on to make that bike a fantastic bike by simply evolving it through R&D? Of course they could. The reasons why they didn't are known only to them, but my guess is they figured they could easily grab a big chunk of KTM's market share, and they found out it wouldn't be as easy as they thought - so they bailed.
This whole thing comes down to a company's mission statement. Some companies incorporate passion and pride into them, some don't; some incorporate eccentricity and rebellion into them, some don't. Triumph is a badass company, always has been, so a little optimism here isn't misplaced. I'm not saying they'll win all the 250/450 shootouts on their first try, but I think they'll build worthy bikes - because that's been their way.
