At 0 rpm, the engine, no matter if electric or ICE, is shut down and is not working. They can't produce torque if they're not working. At zero RPM your motor will have zero torque. If your motor is not energized it cannot produce motion or develop torque.
Can you elaborate further?
I would have bought an Alta...an Australian distributor was appointed and he wanted to have a demo day at my local track...but then Alta failed just before any bikes were shipped here.
I am trying to remain without preconceived notions as to how I will like or not like an emx bike.
Ive only ever read here offerings from Alta owners who love their bikes, so that is super encouraging .
But what I can say with absolute certainty, if I had an EMX bike I would be down the back paddock on the property where I live right now, cutting laps on an awesome natural terrain track..cant do that on my ice bikes for noise reasons.
So instead Im sitting on the crapper having a beer and typing this!
Having a ball ( not! ) during Victoria lockdown number 5...all the tracks are closed and we can be arrested and charged if we leave our homes and travel more than 5km for any resson other than the 5 edicts..
So yeah...Id be down the back having a blast...I cannot wait to get an emx bike!

1) Where does electricity come from?
2) How are batteries made? Where does the material come from? If you answered mined, how much supply do we have? Does it come from foreign countries?
3) Without electric vehicles CA is asking residents to cut back on electric use because of the heat wave.
4) When a battery dies and it will ( guarantee you have a cell phone or drill that stay charged 1/2 as long) where do we put them?
5) Can you explain Net Zero for Carbon use? Doesnt make much sense does it
If you want to ride electric fine, if you want to ride a bicycle fine, but quit saying "progress" and trying to force them into a great sport that is built around sound, smell, and taste.
It will be the bike I ride the most, simply because I will be able to ride it at home any opportunity I get during daylight hours..that would be lifechanging for me, but other people's milemay vary.
An added bonus may be substantially reduced maintenance work and cost, butI have no way of knowing that till I can get an emx bike and putin the hours.
Just saying again..I agree with all your points and would offer my opinion that the entire reneawble energy initiative is just a money making scam for those pushing it and that even a cursory glance at the mathematics and simple realities will affirm that..
An emx bike for me is primarily about riding when I want at home..
PSI am totally over the space bar on my galaxy pad pop up keyboard not regeristering when i hit it..
I have and have a ton of experience ridding ICE bikes. Was a pro back in the 80's and been a motocross trainer for decades.
eBikes are definitely easier to ride than ICE bikes. You can map the delivery of torque for your riding style. You never over rev or bog because of the single gear.
The theory behind max torque at zero rpm is based on the fact that the when two magnets, one on a rotating shaft and the other stationary, are oriented so that their magnetic fields are 90 degrees from each other you'll get maximum attraction or repulsion (depending on the polarity). Since one magnet is secured to a rotating shaft, this attraction/repulsion force will create a torque about the shaft axis (you don't need movement to create a torque). Therefore, again, with the proper field orientation maximum torque (for that motor) can be achieved at zero rpm.
The simplest electric motor uses a permanent magnet on the rotating shaft and is called the rotor. This PM therefore produces it's own constant magnetic field/force. The second magnetic force is created by stationary wire windings and steel laminates properly configured to produce the appropriate electro magnetic field whos strength depends on the amount of electrical CURRENT flowing through it. It's called the stator.
The various windings within the stator are energized in sequence by the CONTROLLER to produce a rotating magnetic field, again the strength of which is proportional to the amount of CURRENT the controller provides. This interaction between this rotating magnetic field and the motors rotor's permanent magnets creates the torque which spins the motor and is quite variable depending on the CURRENT flowing through the stator which is determined by the CONTROLLER which in turn is controlled by throttle position and various trim algorithms. The controller uses various sensors and or firmware to determine the magnetic orientation of the rotor and uses this data to time its sequencing so that the two fields are typically 90 degrees apart, therefore maximizing efficiency and torque per amp.
Speed/rpm is determined by how fast the controller moves/switches the rotating magnetic field about the spin axis and is also controlled by throttle position and lots of various configurable algorithms which are intended to alter/fine tune the motors output characteristics.
Are there electric bikes that are uncontrollable? Sure . . . . . with a big enough motor and not enough current control an electric motor will be a handful. However, they either don't have a sophisticated enough CONTROLLER to tame them or the proper knowledge/tools to properly program them.
You state that the sport was "built around sound, smell and taste."
Those are all bi-products. The sport was built around riding a dirt bike. Just like the founders of Alta, who were not fast dirt bike riders and wanted to create a bike that was easier to ride fast. Pure and simple.
The 2022 CRF250R is not released yet, maybe it won't be as Honda will release their E-CR
I rarely ever touched the clutch while riding 4-strokes so I've developed pretty good throttle control over the years and the Alta was still a bit of a learning curve for me just due to the massive low end torque. Picture riding slow on flat ground on an ICE bike and you blip the throttle to stand the bike up on a wheelie. That same throttle blip on an Alta will either break the rear wheel loose or loop the bike out in map 3 or 4. After you get used to riding the bike and develop some muscle memory it is a game changer the amount of control over the rear wheel you have and being able to make micro adjustments with the throttle to get maximum traction.

Lot's of people taking MX bikes with dead engines and converting them. Cheap. Might be a fun project.

BMX Bike = Pedal for power
eMotocross Bike = Twist throttle for power, just like an ICE bike
Youre missing the point, a BMX bike has as much in common with a current dirt bike as an E bike. Yes, they have two wheels, but what produces the power is different and therefore is a different sport.
