Definitely not the first time but one of my favorites was the glen helen video which I believe was his Suzuki debut when he was scrubbing the top of mnt St. Helens 1/2” off the ground looking at the camera.

Monster Mountain before he went pro. He was scrubbing off the track on his 125 and hitting the 120’ ft down hill ski jump. He made the stairway to heaven look like it wasn’t even there.
Mammoth Mountain 2000 80s/supermini. Amazing battle with Kiniry. James looked like he was going to be good but nowhere close to where he got! And when he turned pro in 02, I sat down and watched him grow to become the best rider to ever ride a dirt bike.

Memory is foggy, but with DPR it was Englishtown KROC, October 2000, or 2001 when he was on his KX125 before going pro in SX. I just remember him sending it into the whoops section along Pension Rd further than any other racer there, landing with the loudest thud, and just hammered through wide fuckin open! I was blown away.

I was right when RC crashed..Everybody said he won't be able to ride that aluminum frame..RC hiked his pants up and said "Bullshit"...

Washougal on his 125 (don’t recall the year). As I recall there was a 90 right followed by a 180 left at the top of the hill, that either sent you into the woods or back towards the ski jump...most treated it like two separate corners...Stewart never shut off after entering the 90...I couldn’t believe what I watched.

SLC 2003, I was sitting in the press box, when Jeremy was pointing out to me how Bubba was the only one doing a 450 line.

Redbud 2002. Unfortunately I was 10 and don't have a specific memory of him on the 125, but can vividly remember watching he and RC go at it in '07 (Redbud), knowing it would be the last time I'd get to see them battle.

Not the first time but one of the most memorable was at Red Bud one year. The old double double culvert jump still existed on the south end of the track and they had a slightly different routing that year where they basically did a 90 deg left and kind of ran parallel to the hill but kind of down it if you will. Anyways there was a rise and then a big g out in the middle of it where most guys were kind of taking it easy. Not James though. He would scrub the double double pin it upon landing, turn left and send it off the rise into the g out with a resounding thud when he bottomed the piss out of his suspension all the while never shutting off. It wasn't the greatest place to see other parts of the track from but I couldn't walk away after I saw him do it. He was just punishing the living hell out that bike, he was a man possessed in those days!

Unadilla, 2002. We were in the bleachers right before the gravity cavity to the right of the track.

I had no idea Stewart purposely slowed down until years later.

I remember big James handing out the blowup beat sticks, noise maker things, whatever you call them. I still have a couple pairs of those around here somewhere. I also have some old 35mm pics I need to pull up.

Anyway, that was my first live pro motocross event. It definitely made an impression.

07 Red Bud was amazing! Bubba and RC going Mach 3 with their hair on fire both motos. James had RC beat until he caught his front brake lever on that stack of tires and did a slow mo endo with only a couple laps to go. Also Villipoto and Townley had a battle royale in the 250s that day.

In 2003 I saw Stewart pre jump/scrub Leach’s lump while I was watching from catchers mit in practice and it was to this day the most insane looking shit I’ve ever seen on a bike.

There was also the tiny lip they made at the end of the S corners in 04 I think and JS was jumping over part of the infield and hi-fiving the crowd as he basically jumped over them.

1992 Loretta's. If he can ride a PW50 that fast, I can't wait to see him on a 60 or an 80.

Moiser Valley GNC, 1999 or 2000. Beat Hansen by 30 seconds in a 5 lap race. Only a couple of pros (Charley Bogard and maybe Brad Woolsey) had faster lap times.

That was my first year going to Washougal. 14 year old me had no idea what I just saw when he scrubbed the Chuck Sun past a local pro named Matt Rambo, going what looked like literally twice as fast as him. He became a Moto god to me that day, then I met him and his dad and they were really cool

That pic pretty much sums up his legend.

Last pic, Daytona wall jump is legendary.

Pic scrubbing under Ramsey is as big an exclamation point as possible on how bad he waxed people on his 125 against 250f’s. It didn’t make sense how easy he made it look.

And the Larocco’s leap on a 125…I remember hearing that J-bone told him to stop because he kept cracking frames and they only brought two extras 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

What's the story behind running the 259 on the Yamaha at Daytona? Was it for media day or something?

His Suzuki’s were some of the best looking bikes ever. Made me want a Zook.

A 1 2002
After the race we were walking through the pits and James was standing around the Kawi rig all by himself. We walked over and talked with him for about 20 minutes. Been a big fan ever since. James rode that 125 like nobody I've ever seen
