I have gone on 3 camping trips this year so far and have another this weekend. I love the truck so far. It pulls so much better than my last 2018 5.3L V8. the transmission is so much better

It is a 2018 Forest River Salem FSX 260RT Toy Hauler. I believe it’s just under 29 foot long and weighs about 4800 pounds dry. 7800 pounds max. I’ve had it a little over 3 years now and it’s been a solid camper. It’s getting a little small with the wife and 3 kids so I’ll probably upgrade after this year. We’ve been camping a lot so I’ll most likely have to suck it up and get a regular travel trailer instead of the toy hauler Angry

My 2010 5.3L silverado sucked down the gas, maybe 300, 350 miles on a full tank on a good day.

When I last looked at gas V8 full sized trucks, the Nissan titan had the worst mpg ratings of all of them... can't imagine running one with a lift kit and big tires.

What happened to the Nissan titan diesel? Didn't it have a all new Cummins engine?
I got one they stopped making them in 19 it’s got a Cummings 5.0 in it the same one you can get in the ram 1500 the nice thing about the titan xd it’s got built in 5 wheel pucks in the bed . The bad thing it must have 4/10 gears the fuel mileage is horrible . But I can run up hills 75-80 mph with a 27 ft boat or 20 ft box trailer all day long and you can get a deal on a left over there is a few around

It isn’t the same engine from the ram 1500. They use a 3.0 v6 diesel.

My son and I went round and round on what to do. I have a High Country Duramax and had a 28' 5th wheel toy hauler. I was wanting an all in one rig for road tripping and not having to deal with the 5th wheel or constantly load and unload the pick up. We have been riding a lot and the 3 times a week loading and loading was getting old quick. I thought about Sprinters/Transits etc but even fully outfitted you still don't get a bathroom/kitchen or enough space and they end up in $70k range done right. I ended up with a '21 Outlaw 29j Class C Funmover Motorhome and I absolutely love it!!! My son and I use it like a sprinter. I take it to our local tracks and far away. It's nice having everything all in one.
The new ones went from the V10 to the Ford Godzilla 7.3 8 cylinder gas and it rips!! We drive over the Cascade Mountains and fully loaded it cruises at 65-70 fairly easily on the passes. It's sweet being at the track and having everything you need and if it gets cold or hot or windy, you just cruise inside and hang out comfortably. They are spendy AF but I found it's worth it. MSRP is $130k-$140k but I found a small dealer that wanted it off their books and they did it for $95k OTD.. The big dealer in Texas seems to wholesale them pretty affordably also.
I second the Fun Mover option if financially you can afford it. My brother in law and I picked a used one up a few months ago (before diesel prices shot up) and although it needed more work than we were lead on too it’s soo nice to have. Had a new roof put on it and I slowly make repairs/upgrades in my free time. It’s a 2005 Gulf Stream Endura Max with a 6.6 Duramax and it gets down the road and thru the mountains of TN just fine. I think we get about 8-10 mpg if the wind is in our favor but we used to take a van on trips then hotel it so cost equals out now that we can bring food and all that. It drives good and is just small enough to fit into gas stations in town. Normally 20 cents a gallon cheaper than the Pilots/Flying j style truck stops. We used it last weekend for a day trip to the local track as we took a buddy and it’s so easy to load all the bikes and be comfy. I bought a Zuma and my brother in law has a Z125 well take to make runs into town or go eat at a local spot. Being as you already have a toyhauler you know they all come with work. I’ve had multiple offers from people at the track to buy it but we can’t give it up yet. I would prefer it to a truck/trailer combo honestly but it all depends on budget. We leave 60% of the stuff in it so we never have to load much. We got it for around 40ish with some work needed but we looked for months.

My kids love them. They’re without a doubt the most used “toy” we’ve ever bought them. I have the 12 for my 3 year old and the 16 for my 7 year old. My 7 year old is ripping around on the CRF 50 with ease but he still loves the Sedna. It’s really nice for camping too. The only negative is they take a really long time to charge. I’d say around 6-7 hours for a full charge.

You must be doing something right. Every time I tow over 70 for very long I get a blowout on the trailer. Although I do tow through the AZ desert in the summer.

You have to go out of your way now to get a half decent trailer tire. It’s crazy how shitty some of them are. I’ve had good luck with Carlisle. But it’s not like I’m towing a gooseneck across Death Valley or anything so no idea there.

ST tires in the C load range are only rated for 65 MPH. I wouldn't use tires over 5 years old no matter how much tread is left. I'm going to put new tires on my trailer next week. The tread looks new but I'm already seeing small cracks in the sidewall.

Going off the original topic, but Why is it so tough to make good trailer tires? you can get cheap Chinese tires for your car that last 25k+ miles averaging 70+mph.

#1, as stated above, many people are running trailer tires that are not rated for the speeds they drive. Not a trip goes by that I don't see some idiot with a trailer driving like he's in a Ferrari.

#2, many trailer owners fail to check their trailer tire air pressure regularly. It is important to run trailer tires at their max psi so they run smooth and do not get excessive heat build up.

No the ram 1500 does not have a Cummins it has some v6 Italian ecodiesel. That 5.9 Cummins was only in the titan xd

i have a 2010 GMC 2500 dmax. 170k miles. Bought with 130k miles on it. one of the best vehicles i have ever owned as far as mechanical and longevity. Pulling it gets 11-12mpg no matter what i pull. I currently use it as our sled hauler for a 29' (5 sleds) in the winter...or with my sled deck (no trailer) rig.

i will never own a gasser again.

Remember, just because something can pull something doesn't mean it should. For all of you pulling at MAX capacity of your vehicle, you're not doing much to extend your truck's life.

Add to that, most trucks on the market are not designed to tow with regularity...more like every once and awhile. That means premature wear and tear on driveline, engine, chassis, and brakes.

Oh yeah, all that weight you just got up to speed, it has to come to a stop at some point. Everyone forgets about slowing all that momentum down. Upgrading your brakes or having a vehicle designed to bring all that weight to a stop repeatedly is continually overlooked.

Bottom line, buy something: 1. bigger than you think you need or 2. buy something commercially rated. Manufacturers are not building RVs, Trailers, and Trucks for daily or weekly use. Keep that in mind when weighing the factors of your purchase.

Nice! Someone ACTUALLY SETS things up correctly! Smile

The diesel and the 6.2 both trailer really nice. Hell, I know people that’re stoked about their Colorado diesels.
