Don you beat me to it - I was gonna mention your son Mike's company CanvasMX. I just had them make me a set of vintage style Husky pants and jersey - everything dye sublimated. They do great work!

Just took some photos of a new custom jersey I put together and got a bunch of questions on Instagram, so I thought I'd post some additional info here. We can pretty much recreate anything (love doing vintage/historical reproductions) or we can get wild and make something super custom. No list of stock fonts to pick where we just type your name in. Full custom. Other ID companies do good work as well and might charge less, but we specifically produce the super unique. We are a graphic design company that just happens to love moto. Are there any sites where we can custom make a screen print decal then they send it to use to apply? THe soccer shop said they'd be happy to press on any transfers I have.

These are the guys that made Dungey's custom jerseys with sublimated logos/names/numbers, they also make a ton of the factory team's pit shirts and jackets.

I can print them and send you just the transfer. Austin@mgxunlimited.com. Kinkos could probably technically printvthem but they will not have the material to print on. Not to mention there are 100s of heat transfer materials.

This is exactly why companies that use a vinyl application for jersey lettering tend to stick to a thicker/heavier glossy heat transfer vinyl. Lighter weight vinyls tend to be less opaque which will result in the sublimation inks from the jersey pulling through (as seen in the above photos). Like Sean I am also a designer and printer and I've noticed in my time that motocross jerseys are overloaded with sublimation ink. So much that it is possible to pull excess ink out of the jersey without affecting the look at all. This process helps keeping the heat press from pulling the ink into the vinyl as much, resulting in a less translucent result. The next best option is using either an eco-solvent inkjet printer with white inks or a thermal printer which also allows you to print white onto the vinyl. Adding an extra layer of white ink onto the white vinyl will help block out the jersey inks and give you a more opaque end product.

So depending on the level of technology used you're most likely looking a give/take scenario between a heavier vinyl that looks more appealing or a light weight vinyl that runs the risk of the jersey design bleeding through. Also certain colors tend to bleed more than others. For example, red will always bleed through more than any other color. So good luck if you have a bright red jersey and you want white numbers. It's almost impossible to not end up with a subtle pink tinge in the vinyl.

Sublimation is definitely the way to go but unless you're hooked up with a gear company then good luck as that stuff is custom made head to toe. Although I have no experience with them the stuff Canvas MX is doing with full custom sublimated gear is pretty cool.

Also just to clear up this is in no way bashing Sean's work. Like I said before I've been down this road and know the struggle. Just wanted to add a little insight.

some of the jerseys are sublimated. but its a process call cut and sew then its sublimated with the design and numbers. the other way is with htv that we use call sublblock to block dye migration. the jersey above. will start to show dye migration its already showing in the name at the top.

Check out your local shirt printing company. It’s 95% likely they use the same exact material as the top mx jersey printing services. I had a local guy do my jerseys for $12 each. Same material as decal mx and the same durability/look. The mx companies WAY over charge for this service.

I would assume that he gets it because Fox actually adds his name and numbers into the graphics as they print the full jersey. For the rest of us non-factory riders, jerseys come to us already saturated with ink and unfortunately adding more ink in the same process wouldn't show up, so we have to layer over it with a physical material to block out the base colors. I can't explain why I haven't seen anyone who offers ID kits use anything other than that thick, shiny, stiff vinyl, though there are actually some much better heat transfer films out there that are pretty thin and stretch fairly well (possibly because of the moderately higher cost).

The Tedesco jersey is a little older, back when even the pros got jerseys with plastic ID's, but oddly enough Roczens is vinyl as well. You can see that it is a little shiny and looks a bit stiff, versus Dungey's which you can see the material weave inside the lettering and name like the rest of the graphics. Maybe more than anyone ever wanted to know about this stuff, but you asked something that I could answer and think about a lot.

I'm a graphic designer, sign painter and a racer that happens to have all of these vinyl tools and heat press stuff just for my own use, but I'm always up to do something cool for other racers who are also excited about this kind of thing. I've been designing my own lettering and numbers for a while now for the same reason and think it might be fun to make some for others as well. I suppose this is an open invitation to anyone who reads this and is interested in something custom. Not out to make money on this as I assume the demand isn't enough to make anyone rich, but FYI the high quality materials and shipping might put the cost around what other basic ID kits run. So I know this is an older thread but I just wanted to throw some info in the mix. I do my own jerseys. I bought a Cricut cutter around a year ago and I have not paid to do a jersey since. I buy mix heat transfer vinyl on Amazon or Ebay in bulk mixed colors and make my own. I can do single layer single jobs like I have posted, or I can layer my colors. Now admittedly these aren't as smooth as the pros but each jersey doesn't cost me $150-200 bucks either. I can buy a $40 jersey and put $5 worth of vinyl on it and it looks like a $200 custom jersey. Just my 2 cents.

Hello, so far for several years people have had a problem to find the perfect place where they can order jersey with their number and name. I can recommend the KW RaceWear store to you in 100% - you can also choose the color to match your bike! Additionally, you can send them your logo to add to your project.

These are nice for the knock-off 50ft away look.

If you really want the "factory" look you should find the exact font these companies use for their lettering (its pretty easy to find with a little effort - theres a database of just about every font these gear companies use) and then send that specific font to someone that knows their way around making graphics. A buddy of mine will do this for you all day. I'm not sure if he wants his contact info thrown out on here though, so if you're actually serious shoot me a message and ill drop you his email.

I am curious how the Cricut vinyl will hold up over time. I have access to a cricut and a heat press and have been wanting to do my own for awhile. I am experience in photoshop and have all the tools to do it, any tips for a beginner?

The dye from the polyester jersey will turn color after a few washes. And cricut vinyl is cheap and not the right vinyl. You need a certain type of vinyl

I went with the Brand “Siser” I asked a few guys doing their own stuff that looked pretty good and they used the “ Siser Easyweed Stretch” made for polyester, just get a few practice jerseys and get after if that’s what I did.

Yeah I didn’t go with the cricut vinyl, I gave it one wash already no peeling yet I think I’m gonna practice with this stuff then try some Sublimation in the future.

Use subliblock for them or use a black underbase first. I do sublimation also. That's easy long as you have a sublimation 13x19 printer or 24"
