I am in no way associated to the bike, build or owner. Its making the rounds on my socials tonight and thought it too good not to share. Massive kudos to the owner/builder:

"This new 2021 CRF450 was collected from us on Friday and by the end of the weekend one very talented customer has transformed it into a CR500 powered beast. The craftsmanship is truly amazing."

Nice build.

But for me it makes no difference if the last thing that i see in my life is old plastic CR500 tank or 2021 titanium tank as i wheelie to my terminal demise.

Shame they didn't remove the top engine mounts from the frame and finish it off. That would bug me seeing that every time.

Makes you realize how easy it would be for Honda to release a 2 smoker again.

Not to mention, if I see good craftsmanship, I’m complementary, even if the creation isn’t my cup of tea. I’m a diehard bow tie guy, but if I see a nicely done mustang I’m the first to tell the owner “nice car”.

Looks fantastic!
Why do people always do the 500 , why not 250 or even a 125?

I think it’s because the 500 stopped developing long before 250/125. The 02-07 CR chassis was and still is very good.

AJ and Co made an 01 CR250R powered conversion for awhile, though.

That said, I know a lot of folks actually prefer the steel chassis on the 500’s. My 500 experience is limited to the stock framed CR and KX 500’s, so I couldn’t say what the AF feels like.

I would love to try one with a mid to late 80s cr 250 engine (I had one but can't remember the year, the engine was an absolute blast) with modern brakes, suspension and ergos .

The vibration is the same in the dunes as it is on the track. I'd actually say it's worse in the dunes since you are on the throttle way more and for longer periods of time, but damn they are the ultimate dune riding bike. Throw on a 12 paddle tire and a desert tank on and you won't stop smiling till it's time to go home.

I've ridden a 2007 Service CR500 on the track and sand. 7/8 Renthals with rubber mounted clamps and FASST CO bar inserts do wonders for the vibration.

Definitely not my bike/build or anything, simply sharing a post I found on the socials that was too good not to.

But she's certainly a beaut!

I have a CR500 (steel frame) and have ridden Aluminium framed 500's, yes they vibrate but the Aluminium framed bikes vibrated a little more than the Steel, it is not by huge amounts...perhaps VTEC needs to ride them for himself to see they are not that bad.

As you say Avidchimp there are ways to mitigate the vibration.

Have your crank balanced first.

I've ridden steel 500s since 1984, and have never ridden an aluminum one.

How much is a 21 motor, ECU, and everything thing else removed actually worth?

I had a 84 and 92 CR 500. The 92 was mild compared to the 84. Riding an AF 500 is definitely on my bucket list. Nice build btw.

I have an 2008 Service Honda (now AJ Built) CR500 AF. Vibration mgmt is the same as my older steel frame bikes. Keep the exhaust seal tight and fresh, crank bearings before you need them. It’s fun to ride and that’s what I’m going for. Not bad on starts either.

What is it that the 500 vibrates so much, why can't it be smoothed out, didn't the factory bikes have balanced cranks?

My buddy has a 01 new CR 500 engine. All new OEM parts, (cases, cylinder, EVER part NEW, every stud / bolts Ti, trans tumbled, ported, head mod, crank balanced perfect, Hinson complete clutch, aftermarket hvy flywheel, complete carbon Reed assy, after market electrical, new OEM kick start and shifter. All new, never started. He might sell it for the right price.
Plus a new Pro Circuit pipe and silencer

I was just drooling over that motor last week while picking up some parts.

Balancing the crank does wonders for a 500 2T.

That bike looks epic.

The nay-saying poofdas should go back to doing what they do best...

NOTHING! Grinning
