Recently ordered four items from MotoSport. One of the four items was on back order but they waited 10 days to notify me the one item was on back order and never shipped the three other items.

Is this normal for part warehouses? They could have at least notified the first few days or first working day you would think and at least ship the other items. Never had to deal with a back order that I can remember so was wondering if this was normal policy. Thanks

I watch my tracking info like a hawk. If it hasn't gone beyond "Created a Shipping label" in 3 days.. I call and nicely ask what's up.

In my opinion a customer should be notified if a product is backordered within 24 hours of placing their order. Rocky Mountain does an excellent job of maintaining their online inventory levels and have gained my trust.

MotoSport has been awful the past few months. If they would just notify what parts will be delayed I'd have no problems with it because if I needed it that bad I'd just look over at RMC (RMC has been fantastic during the whole covid thing IMO) or Dennis Kirk and see if they have it in stock. "In stock" items from MotoSport were taking a week just for the items to be boxed and shipped.

I agree about Motosport. I try to order things from different places to spread the business, but my last order from Motosport was shipped via some company I’ve never heard of and literally dropped of by some random person in their daily driver corolla.

Previous time took like 7 days for an “in stock” item to ship. So yeah RM from now on unless I need something they don’t have and someone else does.

If you don't know already, all of the on line and local parts vendors are overwhelmed with orders and parts shortages.

Their inventory is hard to manage when parts that are supposed to show up on a certain day and they don't.

I know some of the people who have to manage this stuff and they tell me that demand for product is roughly double what it was last year, and parts supply is about 70 percent of what it was last year.

and to the guy in another thread that was complaining about having to wait for a pipe for his 1998 KX 125? Shut the Fuck Up.

They should ship the stock items out without waiting for the BO items

I’d say the right thing to do is email the customer and ask them if they’d like the other 3 items to ship now

I agree on Rocky Mountain. They even called me to make sure they had the order right and then shipped it.

Yeah that's the issue with Motosport. Waiting 10 days to notify me was BS. I had wrongly assumed the order was on its way. When I checked my e-mail want was going on they had just e-mailed that the one item was on back order and they hadn't shipped the three others.

That is piss poor customer service. Rocky Mountain from now on. I just dont understand why these vendors shoot themselves in the foot with bad customer service then guys like me get on the internet and give them a black eye and less possible future business.

Motosport is not quite as good as it was a couple years ago, but they are still good. I had a package from them stolen a few months ago and they completely reimbursed me.

Sunday, I had a package from BTO stolen and they basically said to kick rocks, so I won’t be ordering from them anymore (not that I expected them to reimburse me, but FedEx told me to contact them, so I told them FedEx said to contact them, and they told me to contact FedEx)

I understand shortages and back orders especially with Covid but it only takes seconds to notify someone of a hold-up. They waited 10 days to e-mail me. You would think they were set-up and know their inventory numbers are as soon as something was ordered. There was nothing on their site that said sold out or back ordered.

As soon as I hear the word kick (I don't let them get the rocks out of their mouth) from any vendor I hang up and go directly to my credit card company and request a charge back. Believe it or not I have always gotten my money back from the credit card company.

I see it as the vendors responsibility until the package is in my hands, I refuse to fight with USPS, Fedex, or UPS over a package. Most times they picked the shipper so they can deal with them.

I'm with you on that, Blaze. In these times, vendors must step it up and do the best they possibly can to make up for the shortcomings which will be out of their control. Customer service is 100% within their control.

I have an even better idea, put out of stock on the item if it's not in stock. If they know an estimated delivery date that's great put that, but putting an item for sale that they don't have is bad business in my opinion.

fun story from motosport
years ago, ordered some gear and for $5 more, it would have free shipping, So I ordered some socks to go with it to get the free shipping. A week and a half later, still no order, so I call them to find out whats going on. The socks were apparently back-order so they were holding the entire order until they got them in. The item I didn't even really want kept me from getting my order on time, so that was cool.

I believe they are drop shipping some of their product so what happens is their system is tied to their supplier's system and it shows in stock at their supplier. But, in fact it's not in stock so you end up waiting for them to drop ship it forever. I had a jersey show up but waiting now on the pants...being that it showed "in stock" I thought for sure I would get both items but now I'm waiting for the pants and the jersey does me no good until I get the pants.

Things are a mess. IMO we have to get used to it.
I'm a retailer and e-comm merchant. I order from the same vendorors constantly- spending thousands and thousands of dollars. Some of these multi-million dollar vendors just can't keep track of what's comming and going.

Just yesterday I was e-mailing with the powersports manager of a big off-road company. He told me 4-6 weeks ETA for a specific product that I have on backorder. About 20 minutes later, FedEx handed me a box containing the exact product I was inquiring about lol. No e-mail shipping notification, and not even a packing slip. What I have resorted to doing is that I print out the original order and keep it on a clipboard. So when a partial shipment arrives, I check it off the list and write down the arrival date. Seems archaic to me (I'm pretty much all digital), but it's the only way to keep track of stuff!

The problem stems from profit... or lack of it!

So many companies are now turning over product with such small profit that shipping costs are more than the profit in the order.

So if they shipped you one item... then have to ship you the second item when it comes in to stock, they’ll actually lose money. They’d be better off cancelling your order snd telling you to go elsewhere..

But of course, they will take a chance, hedge their bets snd hope stock arrives and they can ship it all in one snd you won’t complain about it being a day or two late.

One of the companies I deal with has this covered when it comes to ‘checkout’

1) Wait until it’s all in stock and ship it for FREE
2) ship some items now and ship the rest when they’re available but it costs £6.50

You choose.

I got the "we regret to inform you our invintory count was off" yesterday from Rocky Mountain. I got "Shipping conformation" on Monday and when I recieved the email about the one part I looked up my account that says the order was shipped but one part was on backordered. Nothing came yesterday but the email... 2nd time in the past several weeks this has happened. Last time I had to contact them to let them know I needed the other $800 in parts and can't wait 3 weeks for the backoreders part to show up. Meh... shit happens!

Edit: I only recieved "Order conformation" on Monday and have a "Shipping conformation" for all the rest of the parts from last night. I really only need the backordered part so 2 extra days for the spare parts is no big deal

I sent you a message with my contact info. I apologize for the hassle and would like to get to the bottom of this if possible as this is not normal or how we want to conduct business. The last thing we're trying to do is keep anyone from riding by hiding the fact we don't have something in stock.

I'd like to think that we do a pretty good job of showing what is or isn't in stock while placing the order as well as during the checkout process, but I've also been staring at the site daily for over a decade so it's kind of second nature at this point.
