Hello Vital,

I’m a huge stew fan and I want to know if we have the ability to determine the amount of races Stewart was leading and ended up crashing out of the lead?

Is it over 22 races potentially? That he could have maybe passed the king?

I know the first race back after injury in 2005 Orlando he was leading and crashed out which was his third 250 (if you count Phoenix).

He also had the record of either winning or crashing all the way up until 2009 if I recall correctly in a broadcast.

I’m curious what info we can gather without having to watch each race.

In 2009 Ralph was saying that Stewart statistically James either won or crashed 100% of the time. Seeing how he moved up in 2006, I'm sure he lead and crashed well over 30 mains at least.

I'm going to guess 35-45 including between outdoor motos and main events. There were a lot. Stew never beat McGrath's 72 supercross wins but he had more than Jeremy in total AMA wins:

Take away the 125/ 250 class and only count premier class wins and its a different story.

I don’t think he lead and crashed as much as he crashed trying to get to the lead. The ones that stick in our memories though are the ones where he crashed out of the lead like Daytona or the one where he hooked his front brake on the hay bale (Budds?).

No way man, 125 National wins count in the total. Period.

In his 125 career, he pretty much won every race in which he didn't crash.

250/450, kind of the same up until 2009 aside from maybe half of his races against RC.

Villopoto only raced 450 outdoors for 3 seasons: 2009, 2011 and 2013. And he missed most of 2009.

He had a total of 26 starts in 450MX for his career. And won 12 of them. 24 podiums.

Yup. I think the first race he lost that he didn’t crash in was in Seattle in 2009 to RV. And that stat is probably just for 450 supercross and not 125.
