I was responding to APLMANN99's question about what others' experience was with Varner. You all want to shoot anyone who does not grab a pitchfork and go for the kill. My experience was completely different, which is why I said I was torn by this thread.

Chance is offering a solid way ahead, yet HE'S the one having to reach out to the guy needing the assistance to get his engine back. Does that even sound logical to any of you? That tells me a lot about why the problem is still going on.

It’s Christmas week. I’m sure people have other things to do besides check this thread. The PM system on Vital can be sporadic. I’ve sent PMs and have been sent PMs that haven’t been received in the past. Plus, it’s only been a couple days since I’ve made the offer. I would just like to know how many need picked up. If it’s one great. Ten fine.
I check this thread a couple times a day for an update. I already mentioned it to my family and they’ll go grab whatever. But, eventually, regardless of patience, it’ll run out. Maybe not in a week or, two. Maybe not in a month but, eventually, they’ll say “WE TRIED TO HELP” but, we now have other obligations.

Edit: Hopefully, the guys who haven’t received what’s owed to them realize, this is a one time offer. One run. That’s it. I want nothing in return. Maybe some good karma when I’m old (older) lol. But, in all seriousness, it’s called pay it forward.

My question really wasn’t asking what your experience was, it was more about ‘why do you think your experience was so much better?”, or “Why do you think that Varner treated you so well, while he has practically stolen these guys’ money AND engines?”

Was there some secret phrase that you had to use to get your engine done in front of these guys? Secret handshake? Did he tell you that he was 2 years behind but that he’d make an exception for you?

I know that there are people who have decent experiences with Varner, I’m just wondering what the differences are that make him want to take care of those people quickly and efficiently while he dicks other people around for over 2 years.

This motor isn’t all there. If this was a matter of Terry just not having the work done, he’d have found time in the last 2 years to knock it out and shut these guys up. Parts got robbed, the motor got sold, stolen, trashed, something.

Either way, a couple guys walk in to his shop and start demanding some other guys stuff because they’ve got a letter saying it’s cool? That’s not exactly how this works.

I am by no means a Varner buddy. I'm only speaking to my experience, not at all justifying or rationalizing Terry's actions. There is no excuse for it, regardless of what life has thrown at him. Again- not defending the guy.

If this is the case why hasn't Varner come clean to the owner of the motor?

I do agree with you on the second part but what other option is there now?

As someone here stated. They're taking a holiday break from here.

It appears there could be a resolution on the way.

Happy Holidays to all.

Just curious, is there a pattern to any of the delayed jobs and returns?

Because he fucked up, knows it, and can’t just man up to it and try to make it right. The guy blatantly ripped off multiple people. He’s obviously not operating with the highest moral fiber.

This guy’s options are to take legal action to hopefully recover his money. Or to chalk it up as a loss and move on. Those are literally the only two options.

Nobody is stepping into Varners place of business demanding anything. The only thing that would be done/said is showing proof the parts owner/owners want him to hand over their cylinders/engines so we can return them. Varner should be glad to hand them over considering he’s been paid in advance and hasn’t done anything. If they’re stripped, well at least the parts owners know they’ve been totally fucked instead of being continually lied to and lead on. If they do get handed over, well at least maybe they’ll be able send their stuff elsewhere (hopefully!). There’s nothing wrong with walking in, showing receipts and, perhaps having the parts owners on the phone saying it’s ok to hand over their engines or parts to my family. Going into someone’s place demanding anything can be looked at as robbery. If Varner declines to hand them over well, once again, we tried to help regardless of the outcome and it’ll be left at that.

Chance dog the bounty hunter 1216

You’d think Varner would stop taking work until he gets people their motors back. And maybe use a schedule or a calander. Figure out how many hours it actually tekes him to do a job and show up and do it. But nope.
Why would he stop taking in new work when he makes people pay up front?

That part to me is crazy. A customer shouldn’t be expected to pay up front IN FULL until there’s proof from the builder that work/services have been completed. I totally get asking for a % as a good faith down payment or you pay up front for parts, but having to pay in full before any work has even been done is not the best way to treat customers.
specially when shit like this happens.

I’ve never wished ill against anyone in the moto community, but the way this whole deal has transpired and with multiple complaints from different people, I wish he would just fold up shop or stop focusing on new customer work and just do his local BRO builds. All of this could have been resolved by him just coming clean and doing the work or sending the motor back

Sounds like that would open the door for legal action but what do I know.

Only to those with situational ethics. You either have morals/ethics/integrity or you don’t. Varner obviously doesn’t.

Because if it’s true, he’s doing the same as the Madoffs of the world and waiting for the next victim to come along with a similar engine to rob parts from, in order to fix the one prior. Basically an engine hop-up ponzi scheme. Assholes like that don’t stop on their own, much like a compulsive gambler keeps doubling down because they’re “gonna hot the big one someday “...

Needs an intervention. I see him at the track all the time catering to certain customers. A few years ago he used to race and treated things much differently. This is tied to other problems he has. I hope that he gets help.

If Terry wants to make right on all the people he's impacted then maybe I'll think of him as OK. Besided that he's GARBAGE.....BRO

Help as in an extra hand at the shop to communicate and refund customers?

At some point, if you fuck enough customers over, you’re a bad person.

If he’s not at his shop go to Glen Helen on a Saturday and you’ll more than likely find him. Guy is a complete piece of shit. Anyone defending him is a pro blowing fan boy.

You missed my sarcasm.

3 people did.

I dont have parts with him. Im not missing anything. I wanted to send a motor to him but after reading this in the late springtime I didn't even pick up the phone.

Im guessing here, but the guy has clearly started down a path of getting away with not being honest. It can start small, maybe he took someone's powervalve out of the cylinder and put it in a buddies that needed it. It then snowballed from there and hes got a room full of customers motors/cylinders that are either screwed or neglected.

The only reason I reply is because hopefully Terry is reading this, hopefully something changes, hopefully people get their parts back.

As I said a earlier in this thread, Im not boarding a plane to show up at his shop over a thousand dollars of motorcycle parts. HYPOTHETICAL. I do not have parts with him. Other people do. Karma bites. This is the type of crap that gives you cancer to obsess over. It happens every day, it just doesn't involve a discontinued motorcycle part.

That’s what I was thinking this whole time. Only someone with a addiction could be this selfish and non caring.

I sent my motor to Varner in May of this year, don’t have it back and can’t get a hold of this guy. Should have done some more research to save myself this massive headache. Been calling this guy non stop for the past 2 months, only answered my call once. My situation is still not as bad as some others on here and I’m fucking frustrated. For those of you on here that have had this same problem, has anyone gone to his shop and tried getting it back in person. Have an annual trip coming up this March and need this motor back.

Why don't you go to his shop and find out what's going on, its not that far from Hollister.
