Has anyone had issues with the actual fork ring bending? Mine kept loosening up and I couldn’t figure out why. Then realized the actual hinge was bending. I’m not sure if it was the fork compressed bending it or what. I made sure to not over tighten it either.

Is your fork guard rubbing up against the back side of the ring? The wear I'm seeing on the back of the hinge makes me think there is something catching the pin, which would make sense if you are not on the current gen Honda. Like the 17/18 CRF fork guard wraps around the back of the tube and I could see that catching it.

I'd start with what is rubbing the ring to cause it to wear like that.

P.s. it's perfectly fine to bring up an issue you're having with a motocross product on a motocross forum.

A buddy of mine had a problem with his SELA. It wouldn’t release. He’s going to contact PT about it.

Nope it’s Actually on my Husky with CV forks. The Honda is just here to hold the carpet down. Dropped a intake valve.

Seems like there's been a lot of issues with the SELA. Theres already a huge thread on here somewhere. I actually planned on getting one the second they came out but that was right at the peak of lockdown and there were no races going on anyways. I think I'm gonna go with the works connection pro launch. Sure you'll have to have someone set it for you but It's hard to beat American made.

I had this same issue and mine wouldn’t release. There are drainage passages built into the device but when riding sandy tracks it can clog up the passages. I cleaned it out good with contact brake cleaner and it’s back to working as intended. I had the WC device but even with the issue I’m glad to have switched. I don’t always have someone reliable to help at the gate and the SELA makes it seamless. Just like with anything new, there will be bugs to get worked out but in the end the SELA will be a game changer IMO.

I get it. My above comment was really shit hence me deleting it. Happy to hear the OP is getting a replacement unit from PT.

Glad you got your issue sorted out. I have a pair of them but haven’t had a chance to install them yet. I’m pretty anxious about it, I know that.

Did Pro Taper ever get them fixed? Just wondering because on there website they say they have been out of stock for a couple months. Figured they were working on the bugs.
Also a buddy of mine has one. His stuck during a race and wouldnt unlock. He said dirt was getting in behind the knob and causing the knob to stick.
Said they were some BB's inside the knob that arent needed. Said he took those out and its been perfect ever since

I’ve steered towards the standard style clamping rings for this reason. It doesn’t take long to remove a fork 🤷🏻‍♂️

I ran one all year without an issue, even in these conditions it worked flawlessly. It has been a total game changer

I am curious how it was a game changer specifically? Just because you didn't need to have help?

Used mine a few times and it worked fine each time. I’ll keep a eye on it this spring tho.

Have seen a few issues with them sticking at the track. Apparently it needs cleaning out frequently.... Saw a kid knocked out of contention for a win because of one a few weeks back!

The sela is great for a guy like myself that is frequently at the track on my own. I've practiced starts more this year than ever because of the convenience of it. If you know that you will always have someone there to set a start device the tried and true design may be better for you.

Anyone who’s had theirs on for a while see wear like this? This is after one ride.. The screw on the fork guard rubs on that area of the ring. I can see it wearing through that before the seasons over.

Try and countersink the holes more then put some gorilla tape over the screw

Yes, we had one actually break off. Contacted pro taper- will replace but not available till February? The one on the other bike looks like yours leading me to believe it will also break. Will try sinking further/ possible grind down screw head? Gorilla tape as mentioned. Seems to work well but durability?

Thanks I’ll do that. The fork guard has a slight curve so it’s hard to countersink anymore. The edges (East and west in the pic) are already flush with the plastic but due to the curve it makes the top and bottom stick up more regardless. The screws seem like the problem though. I emailed these pics to pro taper and waiting for a response.

The idea is cool but this might be a thing where you keep a set of extra fork guards around and just put the SELA attached ones on on race days 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have not received my replacements yet, and phone says moving offices. I tried sinking and also removing washer but then it fails to engage. Keeping extra fork guards is an idea but not ideal. Pro taper needs a fix, at least for yzf forks. At the least have parts available for their products - 6 weeks waiting for an easily machined part?

Update. Able to get through to Brandon who apologized for not getting back to me. Yes, known issue with newer yz fork guards, their engineering dept is working on it. Has something to do with thinner guards and sinking depth. They have sent me replacements. I asked to be kept in loop regarding permanent fix/ fork guard replacements. I will see what I can do. I do like how they work and hopefully they come up with fix.

Im just gonna take the ring off when I’m not actually racing takes 10 seconds. But mine has worked good so far. On my 2021 Yz250f.

I have had a sela on 2020 yz since it was new. It now has 27 hours and this is the wear I'm seeing. Looks pretty worn but it feels like it is just the coating that has worn off. Definitely no gouges like previously pictured.

Are you using the stock fork guards? Or aftermarket ones ?

If using the stock guards how’s the screw heads holding up for you etc?

I do have acerbis guards on. That may have an affect on fitment.
