Is an hour meter just an hour meter?

Do you have a favorite? If so, which one? Elaborate as to why it's your favorite. Or are they all created equal? Cleanest way you've found to mount it?

Works Connection purely because they sell the mount that uses the top fuel tank bolt

If you have a KTM/Husky the KTM hardparts mount is my favorite. I just use cheap $7 hour meters from eBay. They’ve been just as good as the Wiseco, works connection, and Protaper units I’ve used.

I like to support the moto industry as much as I can, but spending $40 on a name brand hour meter doesn’t make much sense if I can get the one without their logo for under $10.

Works connection... I use gorilla double sided tape and put it I top of the triple clamp like husky does stock..

I used a hardline and a buddy used a tusk... both where in accurate and cheaply made.. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ The tusk would rack up hours on the way to the ride😂😂 (vibration?)

Haha $40 I wish. My awesome “local” dealer who I support as much as I can charged me well... this much. I ordered it, and the holeshot device, along with the brand new bike I ordered off them. And this was the deal they gave me. Support your local dealer... until you run out of money and they don’t care.

And that’s why you shouldn’t buy from bad local dealers. We’re not all bad, I would never even try and talk someone into spending anything near $100 for an hour meter. Find a good local shop before you bash them all, but I can understand if you don’t have one good local shop in your area. Certainly leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

That’s pretty shitty man. As someone who works at a local bike shop I don’t understand why you would go back to a place like that.

I would avoid the Tusk Hour meter because one day the meter reset itself! The 50.2 hour count went back to 0! A little frustrating so I bought a WC one to mount up top by the tank

I use Works Connection with the fuel tank bolt mount. Easy to see and well protected. I tried a wireless hour meter once, but it wasn’t tracking running time accurately, so I went back to my tried and true WC unit.

I bought a Pro Taper wireless meter and installed on the frame of a RM-Z 450 and it never worked correctly. It would record for a couple minutes randomly then at 2.1 hours, it quit recording. I tried zip tying it to get it tighter to the frame since it works off vibrations or whatever. Still didn't work. I should have contacted Pro Taper and I'm sure they would have helped me out but I went with a wired meter instead. I've used Works Connection, Tusk, and Hardline and never had any issues.

Just get the works connection one. The hour meter to me is very critical. Turns out I don’t ride as much as I thought and have been over changing......well......everything

Reminds me of a guy I bought a bike off. Had it 2 seasons. He estimated he put 140 hours in those 2 seasons riding from May-October.

In the same amount of time, I put 76 on my bike. Riding March-December. Riding twice as much (or more) than he does. He’s a good buddy of mine, but is a 50+ beginner guy. Goes out 2-3 times for 4 laps on a typical day. He thinks being at the track for six hours means five bike hours. For him it’s about 30 mins on the bike.

So he basically gave me the bike. No clutch cover wear, it had no tire roll on the rim, it was stupid clean. He thought it was due for an entire motor rebuild since it had “140” hours. It probably had about 35.

The hardline I used wasn’t but I don’t know about my buddies
The factory connection I use now isn’t it ha the wires you wrap around the spark plug wire
