Saw him in Dallas, and Houston. I'll not try to remember the dates because

A: It makes me feel old.
B: I was probably pretty stoned each time.

I think it was at the SX in San Jose, around 85' that I had the honor of watching the wheelie king go around the track. Simply amazing.

I can't count how many times I saw him. Cotton Bowl. Tx Stadium. I even think he showed up at a couple of drag races we raced at.

I don't remember what year it was, THERE WERE NO FUCKING METAL FUCKING RAMPS AT THE COLISEUM IN THE LATE 90's..

You call me out in a TRIBUTE THREAD? Google it assclown

Chris is talking about the "Summercross" in the summer of 1999 at the LA Coliseum. It wasn't MC's race but MC did it and crashed giving the win to Ferry. Pretty big money, it was supposed to re-write the way riders were treated in SX. Not all the big names showed up but it was a pretty cool event. No spectators though and it was the last SX that promotor ever did! Sorry Chris, MC had nothing to do with the promotion of the race, he only raced it.

I remember the 125 results, it went something like

Ping
Schnell
Harrington
Tedesco (I think it was one of Tedesco's first pro races)

Obviously, the guy that got third in the main but more importantly got to see Domokos wheelie the track at halftime. Pretty lucky dude!

I only remember it as MC's race as it was all hyped around him... I didn't realized people would be asking for my ticket stubs! Smile

First time I saw him was at Road Atlanta, and watched in awe as he wheelyed up and down all those steep ass hills. Damn if he didn't do it again in Atlanta Stadium. Dude was amazing. What caused his passing?
RIP Doug

Poor guy crashed a couple times trying to wheelie that SX track. It was OK though because Jeremy crashed and lost his own race anyhow...Pinch
Mcgraths Invitational race was in 2006 and Doug Domokos was killed in an ultralight aircraft accident on November 26, 2000... You must be talking about The Summercross from 2000. With the SummerCross and The Invitational Mcgrath has had 2 one off races. The Invitational will return in a year or 2.

I think ChrisB was refering to the SummerCross back in 2000 not the JMI

I saw him wheelie the upper track at Carnegie in 70 something. Maybe it was a Trans-Am, I don't remember. I do remember he was amazing. He seemed effortless. His little motor on the front wheel was clever. I think it helped him turn.

Semics used to get great holeshots, remember, Bobby? That also might have been the day Decoster's triple clamp broke when he was pinned in high gear over that drop off.

Cool thread Bobby.

It happened at lake elsinore.
the little airfield there by the track?

seen Doug a few times for sure..

Happened to be riding at elsinore the day of his accident,
many of us thought the ambulance was coming for some downed rider,
turned out it was for Doug and the nearby glider accident
Sad

RIP

I saw DD at Sunshine Speedway in St.Petersburg,Florida in '75 on a Maico, before the front wheel motor days. He and two other guys ,one was Gene Ritchie's son I believe, All doing the wheelie the track deal.

Bill West paid Doug and the other two riders about $50 each that day. West was sitting in his van when he first saw Doug wheelieing down the Sunshine dragstrip, As DD came towards the van, he set the front wheel down right on the hood. Ha!

The first time I heard or saw Doug Domokos was a St Pete National, he invented this electric motor for the front wheel idea that helped to wheelie the whole track, It was cool.

Saw him many times.

I worked on the crew of a bunch of Arenacross races that Worldsports did in the late 90's/early 80's and was a regular stunt act.

He set up these T-shaped poles with parallel cables on them and would Wheelie a 3 wheeler across them about 25' above the concrete floor.

He also had a three wheeler with a round roll cage around it. The wheels only stuck out 3 or 4 inches. He would wheelie out of the tunnel at a pretty good clip and then lock the brake up and roll it all the way down the start straight.

Saw him come in too fast one time and roll all the way into the wall. He just happened to hit like he had wheelied into it. If he had hit it upside down it would have been different.

He definitely earned whatever money he was paid.

Never did see him eat glass but he did tell us that he could almost cover his travel expenses winning bar bets doing it.
