The short version he gave in the instagram comments on a post was that he was supposed to be an amateur one more year. But because Malcolm Stewart didn't want to race outdoors after winning his 250E title Tristan got called up to line up for hang town with not a lot of notice. He talked about the Christian Craig stuff and then a couple rounds in he got hurt. He made it sound like they led him on about resigning him and then dropped him for Jeremy Martin.

This was before the rule was implemented about being able to go back to amateurs if you don't score enough points.

He said it turned him off to the whole moto industry.

Again, this is just what he wrote on instagram. There are two sides to every story. I'm sure the podcast does have a ton more info.

He went to run emx250 series but didnt put work in. After that he got even less options.
That definitely doesn't help a situation. On instagram he said after how Geico ended for him his heart was out of it before he even got to Europe.

Sounds like he got the raw end of the deal with Geico, but definitely didn't and isn't dealing with it well.

this prob helps skip through speculation and hunting through IG comments:

https://racerxonline.com/2018/11/16/tristan-charboneau-announces-hes-stepping-away-from-professional-racing

"This isn’t something I want to post, but I have to so here it goes, I have had an awesome 16 years in this sport. Traveled all around the world, accomplished a lot of goals, seen a lot of amazing places and met a lot of amazing people that I will never forget. Motocross has been the only thing and most important thing to me all of my life. But I’ve come to realize that my body can’t handle that stress anymore. Through all of the broken bones, torn muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc. and always cutting injuries short to get back to racing. I have a lot of regrets with racing, I wish I would’ve worked harder. I rarely worked out, and when I did workout it was halfass. Always ate the worst food possible for myself as an athlete. I took the talent I had on a motorcycle for granted. I regret that, very much. I’ve got a job now close to home as a Fabrication Welder, just trying to enjoy the real world for once. I just want to thank everybody that was always there for me through the good times and the bad times no matter what. My family for always being behind me with love and support. Huge thanks to the Woods family for giving me hospitality and training over the years. The Harrison family for always having my back and helping me out. The Irwin family for the hospitality and wrenching. John Wessling for always trying to push me with training, Mike LaRocco for believing in me and giving me the chance, Frausto, Moore, Bratcher, and many more. It’s been a great career. Thank you to you all."

Hit up Wil Hahn and Star Yamaha, they clearly need your advice.

The thing that sort of comes to my mind is that the best tradesmen/craftsmen that I know are all highly self motivated and putting out effort is usually not an issue at all. Even when they are doing something that they may not “love” their pride in their quality and effort is almost always extremely high.

I hope this kid puts a lot more effort into learning the trade of welding, but if I knew that he was going to be doing work for me I’d be wary for at least a few years. Skills can be learned, but pride in your efforts and quality of work are a bit more ingrained early and harder to change.

Try to leave some for Christian's missus. They signed McElrath and that really paid off, maybe I could save them some money. He's on a 1 year deal we'll see if he makes it a full season before he gets hurt.

So which one of the 2 non-star riders that managed to beat Shane in 2020 would you have signed instead?

Bro riding a dirt scooter and holding a stinger are two completely different things.

Bro putting in quality work to your profession is pretty much an issue of character.

Some care about quality and put the work in. Others don’t.

As I said, I hope this turns out differently and he’s one of those people who actually learned from their mistakes. If it were me I’d have a “show me, don’t tell me” attitude until proven otherwise.

All I’m saying is cut the kid some slack. He’s a kid. And if he puts half the effort in to a trade that he did for moto you can bet he is stacking dimes.

Don’t forget how rigorous and gnarly moto can be. I doubt he was out of shape. Just not the machine that say Jeremy Martin is.

This is why the athletes keep so tight lipped in our sport. As soon as some honesty comes out, they get shit on.

I would sign ex star rider Ty Masterpol over him, probably save money and you are guaranteed some TV time off the start

Well I can already tell you nothings changed on the news regarding those two subjects..Trumps still pursuing legal action and were getting closer to releasing a vaccine.

However, rest in peace to the service men our country lost today due to a helicopter crash. Prayers to their loved ones and words cant describe the gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice for our country.

This quote from his retirement announcement pretty much sums it up as to why he lost his ride:
“I have a lot of regrets with racing, I wish I would’ve worked harder. I rarely worked out, and when I did workout it was halfass. Always ate the worst food possible for myself as an athlete. I took the talent I had on a motorcycle for granted. I regret that, very much.”
