Why not pick up a Boulder and start hurling them at that sonofabitch. Large stick or some other weapon and club the bastard. Life or death situation.

That's all I could think of the entire time. He's walking on very throw-able large stones the entire video.

But holy smokes that would be intense.

Last thing I would be worried about would be recording it with my phone.

He actually did the right thing. She was with cubs and in defense mode.

I was thinking the exact same thing. What kind of person pulls a phone out when there's a chance that you're about to fight for your life.

Getting that on camera would be the least of my worries.

So just for grins, what are the odds a normal man could go toe to toe with this animal and survive? If this man had to fight it, what would be the best tactic?

I would say that thing has some nasty claws so you dont want to get ripped up. Maybe some sharp boulders in my hands and a bonsai rush /tackle? Get the thing in a rear naked choke hold? Silly

I think if he would have gone right to the ground to grab a rock, he would be cat food. You have to stand tall, make yourself large and loud, and slowly back away. He spent 5 minutes trying to find the right moment to get a rock and didn't panic.

Slim to nothing. That cat has loose skin and can spin around underneath your choke hold pretty fast. I'd rather suggest clobbering it as hard as you could, right on the nose, as often as you can. Best bet is for you to make the animal decide it doesn't want to eat you badly enough. Otherwise, it'll have its way with you.

Acting like a 909 bro after too many Jagerbombs is actually a good strategy: "C'mon, bitch! I'll F you up!"

Hiking in area where there's big cats by yourself, unarmed is, pretty dumb. At least carry a can of bear spray. It does work.

My guess is any sudden movements would make the cougar more likely to attack.

She was a small one too , I would imagine if you throw a rock you only get one chance ,she either boogies or shreds you to pieces . She was basically escorting him away from her offspring. If she wanted to eat him I dont even think he would have ever saw her coming.

Cougar would kill a normal man. Pinky took this dude on and did pretty good, imagine what a cougar would do.

has anyone said where in Utah this is? i swear this is in North Fork Park area which if that's the case there are multiple cats up there. i've been mountain-biking and seen 2 in the last few months. they usually are at a little bit of distance, nothing like this one being super aggressive/defensive.

i would literally shit in my pants.

i've hiked up there (North Fork) with my wife and dog and all 3 of us have gotten the serious Heebie-Jeebies at the same time, multiple times over the course of our hike. i have no doubt we were being watched/stalked. talked to a lady that lives within a mile of where we start that lost a couple dogs last year out of their fenced back yard. sad stuff.

This is what happens when you are out doing Pokemon go by yourself.

She would have been pummeled by rocks if it were me.
Probably only taken one, but I learned how to throw a rock as a child, and I can guarantee I could have turned that cat around.

As someone who has had plenty of lion encounters on South African safaris, any half decent safari guide would tell you he did precisely the wrong thing by backing away.

To predators, weakness is provocative.

Stay strapped, or get clapped! Going for a run, phone or EDC? Phones are kind of like Restraining Orders........."Hello Police, Yes, this is where you'll find my body".

Others have stated if he threw a rock too soon (near the babies) it would not have ended well either. Throwing rocks around the babies would have been a threat to them, so she might not have just turned around.

I would have had to rely on the smell coming from the sh*t running down my legs scaring her off. As in, "This thing is so rotten that even a cougar wouldn't eat it" type of stench.
