JMarts National Championships carry more weight than Ferrandis Regional Championships. The list of guys who have been able to win a Regional SX championship is significantly longer than guys who could put together a full championship in the Nationals.

Unfortunately you are incorrect. Sponsors, as well as teams look for SX skills over MX for exposure. I’m a big fan of J-Mart and if he has a chance with Gas Gas I would jump on it like Elizabeth Hurley.

If 250 outdoor titles carried that much weight, Martin would have been on a 450 years ago. Like it or not, supercross is king, and that's why Jeremy is still racing 250's. I absolutely think he deserves a shot on a 450, and I hope he gets it, but if you can't see why Ferrandis is more highly valued as a 450 prospect, then I don't know what to tell you.

I think people on here are just dumb. I don’t even feel that I’m saying anything that’s inflammatory in any way toward Jeremy. Ferrandis is just riding like someone who will be able to compete for wins next year in the 450 class

Wrong.

Those regional titles hold more weight than the outdoor titles. Always has, always will.

"The list of guys who have been able to win a Regional SX championship is significantly longer than guys who could put together a full championship in the Nationals."

I'm sure having 2 regional championships contested a year has nothing to do with that list being longer... 🙄🤦‍♂️

But you’re doing the same thing with Ferrandis that others are doing with Martin 😂

But I get your point. Ferrandis has overall been the faster rider. Martin has been more consistent & using his experience to help him continue to lead the championship.

Here’s my concern, none of the 250 Yamaha riders have done well on a 450 Yamaha - AP7, CW2. I would compare Ferrandis more to Webb here. Hopefully they’ve made enough changes that Ferrandis can transfer over to the 450 and be competitive on the bike.

Is this a rule or something? As far as I'm concerned it just comes down to ones opinion. In my opinion 250 outdoor titles are a much bigger deal than 250 regional SX titles, they always have and always will to me.

It’s not a rule but SX gets more exposure and pays more than outdoors. I personally think the same and think an outdoor title (at least in the 250s) is more of a merit than a regional SX title. 250 SX you’re basically facing half the best vs outdoors it is who is the overall BEST 250 rider. But SX is king over here so a regional title gets more attention than an outdoor title

Exposure and attention doesn't really mean a whole lot to me, it hardly has any effect on the racing. As you said 250 SX riders race half the competition in 8 15 minute races. 250 outdoors is 24 30 + 2 motos. I honestly don't understand how anyone could say a regional 250 title holds more weight than a national championship.

Exposure & attention matter a whole to the sponsors & teams though. Like I said, I think the 250 title should carry more merit as well. But teams & sponsors look at it as "they did well on a 250 in SX, they should do well on a 450 in SX" which doesn't always correlate.

Manufacturers and Teams think they hold more value. Ferrandis is the hottest prospect moving up and he doesn't have a 250 national title to his name yet.

SX is more important in the US. That's a fact.

I think Teams are a little bit smarter than us (Vitards) when it comes to picking riders, I am sure they do not think "they did well on a 250 in SX, they should do well on a 450 in SX"

Just because it means more to you doesn't mean that the people who actually make the decisions feel the same way. If national titles are more important, then why is a guy who won two 250 national titles 5+ years ago still on 250's? Why does a guy with two supercross titles and no outdoor titles have a guaranteed 450 ride while we have this thread speculating where the other guy could possibly end up?

I like outdoors more as well, but if you think supercross isn't the jewel of the sport then you're ignoring the obvious reality.

Not sure why you quoted my post because I agree that SX is the top of the sport.

Personally, I prefer outdoors, but in terms of what is more important to the manufacturers:

Supercross
MXGP
AMA Nationals

That specific order was even mentioned in one of the Red Bull Moto Spy episodes this season.

To be fair, Martin he hasn't been the luckiest rider in SX so far. A bit like Baggett or Rattray, they were hauling outdoors but it wasn't materializing indoors. This is what has put a question mark for potential team managers and explains why he stayed in 250 while Webb moved up, then his injury has put him aside for a long time.

Now that he is back to his prime, I think he can do well in both classes and in both disciplins. Especially with this season, where he is really solid and very impressive, no doubt that a team should look at him for a 450 ride, or for a "Sexton's schedule" with 250sx + possibly some 450sx + 450mx, as it looks like it is the best and safest way to make the transition.

Hopefully he can do that with GasGas or with his team, as it doesn't look like there are lots of spots out there while there are quite a lot of great riders without a contract (yet), i.e. Mookie (who finishes 6th in sx this year), Tickle (who finishes top 6 top 8 in multiple championships), McElrath (who has the speed for podiums in sx when he gels with the track and could very well be top 6 top 8 through the sx championship), etc.

I like when 250 teams are moving up their top talents, I trully enjoyed seeing some Geico Honda and PC 450's, and it is a formula that worked quite well based on the limited attempts ; just on top of my head, Tomac, Anderson, Osborne, Musquin, Herlings or Gajser.

Why does AC have a factory Kawasaki ride despite not having an SX title? Because he’s insanely talented. No disagreement from me that overall SX is the most important, but it’s not the be all end all. Teams aren’t going to pass up on a great rider simply because he doesn’t have an SX title.

I never said a supercross title was required to get a factory 450 ride, so I'm not sure where you came up with that. I said that a supercross title is more valuable than an outdoor title, and used the example of Ferrandis and Martin to show that.

Regardless of titles though, AC has a factory 450 ride because he's fast as fuck indoors and out, and the same thing goes for Ferrandis. We're speculating about where Jeremy Martin could end up because he's fast as fuck outdoors, but he hasn't proven to be as capable indoors.
