Varner can build a motor. Clearly. Heck, he's been regarded as a great tuner since back in the mid-90s.

He would be wise to bring on someone that could help with logistics, customer service, etc.

Allow him to just focus on his craft.

The result would be happy customers and more business. A win-win.

The upside of doing this would be huge.

If not, it will all implode...as it already seems it has.

2 years for a motor. Amazing.

He needs someone is the corner that can handle the "business" side of the business and let him stay glued to the bench.

Hope he figures it out.

Wow some of you guys are losing races by months and even years. My engine may be stock but I am only losing my races by 1-2 laps.

It's interesting now people are speaking out about there bad experiences with him. I didn't find any reviews on TV that sent up red flags etc.

When I started looking for a builder I narrowed it down to three. One was honest that he was back logged and wasn't taking work.

Both of us live to far away to go pick it up.Plus it probably wouldn't be done.

I'll say it again. It's simple he needs to do the work in the order it came in and get it done and shipped. Not favor pros and guys that live in California.

If any else had problems with him please post that, so others can see it.

He hasn't answered anything this week.

As Kowalczyk579 said Varner said this stuff "ruffled his feathers". How about his customers? Id say we are pretty upset too. Varner told me the same thing. But he still hasn't got me my motor back.

Sounds like he just needs to be upfront with customers on the turn around time. No point in bull shitting it

So it's been weeks since my last post here about my engine issues with him.

Monday August third I got a text from him after explaining to him that the Unadilla Rewind is coming up and I didn't want to miss it again this year due to no motor for my vintage YZ.

His text read "You won't miss it Karl."

Unadilla is Friday 8/28/20 with the grass track.

Looks like I'm missing Unadilla again.

Don't bother to tell me to come to California and get it etc.

I've had a person from California helping me try to get it done that uses Terry for his motors. He tells him the same things he tells me.

Called today. Got a helper who said he'll call you back. We'll see.

Either way. No motor,no Unadilla.

If I had a two stroke motor I wanted done I’d send it to Al Posey. You’ll get it back in a reasonable amount of time and he’s a great guy.

Almost 56,000 views on a thread on one of the most popular sites in the industry.

Several people with legitimate claims of horrible customer service, follow through and business practice.

Dang.

CA Courts website link

On this page at the top there is a link for "get help with a demand letter". It will generate a letter for you after entering some info. Basically, its a last chance to work through the issue before filing in small claims. You should be able to file in small claims via mail. Get the ball rolling on getting your engine back if that is your goal (or paid from him the cost of replacing the engine). If your goal is to force him to do the work, I think you'll continue to be screwed.

Just glad I left my CR stock and sent it to Millennium for a replate. Three week turnaround. Fuck all this.

I wonder if he even has your parts anymore? Maybe he sold them to somebody else or he lost them. One thing appears certain, that if you don't pursue the small claims action you're not getting anything back.

Keep the hammer down on him. I suspected that maybe he didn't have my motor any longer after over 2 yrs, but in the end I received everything I was supposed to with a shit ton of excuses to go with it....I bet he still has everything of yours he's just chasing that next deposit to make the bills....Will I ever use Terry again......HMMM....his work is so good probably, but with zero money up front. Once that carrot is eaten up he loses all motivation and judgment.

You’ve got more patience than me! Back in 03 I sent a exhaust back to Pro Circuit that had cracked. I made sure and sent it where I had a signature return. I waited a month then called. The guy said sorry but we never received it. I responded with “ well you might wanna ask the guy who signed for it” and gave him the guys name. About a week later I received a brand new complete exhaust. I really think someone misplaced it or threw it away because the guy kept saying he had looked everywhere and couldn’t find it.
I really hope this works out for you. I know it has to be extremely aggravating.

I know Terry very well and he is a awesome guy to hang with. Without doubt he is one of the best motor guys out there.

With that said, I am disappointed to hear about these complaints of Terry not delivering. Its just not right.

I really hope that you all get sorted.

Yep, seems to be a higher instance of this with suspension and motor guys for some reason.

Builder A who makes 52 HP and gets you your motor back in a month is 100% better than Builder V who can (theoretically) make 55 HP but gets you your motor never.

I can't speak for him, but I don't think he can do all that much sitting in South Africa. Maybe a phone call if he can reach him.

He said this thread “ruffled his feathers.” Fucking rich!!!

“How dare they expose my shadey business practices!”

Wasn’t the last update that he was ill and some were even requesting a wellness check on him? Now he’s out at the track wrenching on bikes. Looks like he’s all good again, so where are everyone’s parts?

So Unadilla came and went this weekend.

After Terry texted me "You won't miss it." Well I did.

Had a message from another guy on FB, same problems with Varner.

Even had a guy who's California that went and saw him because he uses his for motor work. Now Terry has his bikes and nothing is being done.

All these posts about this guy. He's obviously not an honest man. People continue to defend him and claim to be his friend. Yet nobody does anything. Several people including myself have posted instructions on filing a small claim lawsuit and Bureau of Automotive Repair complaints. Nothing gets done. Why post about it if you're not going to take any action. Are you just looking for sympathy?

That sound like a great idea, maybe a push from a friend is what is required.
