And all I said was that it seems people prefer 2-strokes 2 to 1 according to a poll I have only displayed on Supercross and Motocross boards. Wink

what about thumpertalk? LOL!!!! Anywho....I give everyone a hard time about the 2 and 4 storke thing...its more to aggrevate than anything. I used to ride and race two strokes but LOVE the 4 strokes I have owned and for me at least, my 4 strokes treated me to years of use with no problems, and I'm sure there are other who've had horror stories with them.

Believe it or not there are a lot of 2-stroke guys who are members of Thumpertalk. I would imagine if I posted on Hare Scramble and Enduro boards the poll would be skewed even more heavily on the 2-stroke side.

umm thumpertalk had to add a 2 stroke section,, that speaks volumes dont you think?

as well as the displacenent advantage not being overturned in pro SX or MX racing..

If a 4-stroke is so superior, why are the factories so afraid of a straight up fight? They should let the 250 2-stroke go up against their high dollar 250 4-strokes. Let's make it a fair fight, only then will we see who the real winner is!

450cc is 450cc....2 stroke or 4 stroke...prior to the YZ400F, the 4 strokes needed the advantage...they didn't rev, nor did they have the frame / suspension setup they have today. Funny thing though, wedge a 500cc 2 stroke engine in a modern 4 stroke frame and it's a whole new ballgame

well until they have equal power output, cc to cc will never be equal. Again, cc for cc doesnt mean they make the power the same. Ex that I've used before...6.2 liter v8 say one out of at truck........against the 6.2 liter motor out of the new ZR1. Same cc....but make power differently. SO its not a fair race. Bike shte same way.....power stroke every stroke vers every other? CC to CC will NEVER be fair until they make comparible bikes. Well unless your james stewart, RC, RV which pretty much puts a sock in all that unfair shit. Maybe its unfair to those who don't know how to ride them.

So is it fair that they raise the cc limit on 4-strokes so much higher than a 2-stroke that the 2-stroke can no longer compete? How does that make the 4-stroke better? It only means the rules are stacked in favor of the 4-stroke. There was a time when there was a 125 class and a 250 class (and a 500 class). You could run a 250 4-stroke in the 250 class if you wanted but you would most likely get waxed. So the manufactures decided they could make more money from 4-strokes but they had to figure out a way to make them competitive. How did they go about that? Yes, they get the AMA to change the rules for the 4-stroke and up the cc limit until the 4-stroke not only can compete but it actually has an advantage. Now if you want to race and win you're pretty much going to have to buy one of their expensive 4-strokes. At least woods racing isn't screwed up like that.

The AMA actually lowerd the displacement for 4 strokes it used to be 550cc, not more than a few years ago.

I'd like to see a four stroke 125cc built that would run with a 125T. Yeah, right.

I just think that everyone should be allowed to purchase, ride and race the bike they want. Pro racing is another world. 2 a 4 strokes should race separately. that's it.

I don't think it's living in the past at all. Having 10 times the moving parts while only producing half as much horsepower at the same engine displacement is not high tech or modern no matter how much you want it to be.

The only thing modern about today's motocross bikes are the chassis, suspension, and the fuel injection system.

Can the 150F out run a Supermini 105T?

Okay really? How many times do we really have to have this discussion? To solve it now here you go.
Equal cc's two stroke wins every time.
With unfair displacement advantage four stroke wins every time.
Of course this is motocross / supercross only. I f you want to talk about off road, well...

so your poll of a couple of hundred people tells the tail? Go to any local track anytime anywhere and see what you see! And jeffro.....had EVERY other rider been riding a 2 stroke during the MXON last year and RV on ihs 250F.....what would the outcome have been? THE SAME!
They both have their place, but I like 2-strokes over 4. I guess its the fun factor as it does take more skill to properly ride the 2-stroke. I found you can get away with being lazy on the 4-stroke; which means eventually you get that way on them (Reed Stewrat, Villopoto etc being the exceptions of course).

I own a 250f. Sure I love it but I cant stop thinking about the 150SX I rode about a month ago. My lap times were faster on it probably because it was lighter and more fun. I will get one sooner or later.

At the last few races Ive been to here 250 2 strokes have been filling the top 4 or so in the 450 class and 150s are doing the same in the 250f class. Plenty of holeshots too. Everything but the pro class that is. No one rides a 2 stroke in the Pro classes. If only someone would.

I agree! I found myself getting lazy when I bought a 4 stroke. I've sold the 4 and returned to the 2 stroke. They are much more exciting to ride IMO. And to hear them on the pipe is spine tingling.

2-Stroke, 4-Stroke, I don't really care. Just as long as I can ride.

the length of usable power on a thumper is much longer than the quick peak and fall of the smokers. I would think that makes them equal out. plus a thumper revs like a F1 car.

The thumpers have had 5+ years of development the smokers have not had.

when a thumper grenades, you're screwed. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

the "lightness of feel" and "flickability" cannot be duplicated with a thumper, too many moving parts with bad gyroscopic side effects.

A brand new KX450 weighs in at a portly 238 DRY. oink-oink

the big 4 don't want heads up competition for 1 reason, THEY'RE SCARED.

James beat everyone on his 250 smoker, EXCEPT for RC. that didn't change when he jumped on the thumper.

Four strokes sound like a record scratcher making rap 'music'. Can anyone approximate the noise these things make?
