That's a real nice box. I don't think mine would fill up super fast. I already have three drawer snap on with the tools I would normally take with me to the track in the garage, So I have a small box for sockets, wrenches, ratchets, etc. This box would have very little of that and more specialty seal pullers/drivers, engine work components, etc. I'm only 19 so I don't have a huge budget to blow on tools daily so I don't think it will fill up super quick.
That US General cart is probably a good choice. It seems like a lot of specialty type things are now coming in blow molded cases. I now have a stack of them next to my box. The bottom shelf of that cart would be a good place for them and oils etc.. Plus, it would still be great as a roll around cart when you finally upgrade to a larger box. At less than $250, you really can't go wrong. Check out all of the magnetic tool box accessories at Freight/Amazon. They keep things out of the box and easy to access. The kit below is $25 on Amazon.

I use the sonic moto box and a milk crate with some miscellaneous tools, coolant, oil, etc. hasn’t let me down.

Don't get a roll cart to work on a dirt bike. Get a toolbox.

Silhoutting the draws takes time but it makes it easy to know when something isn't put back...like a 10mm socket. Cut out Kaizen Foam or tools in oven at 350 degrees till ready.

I decided to do it right the first time and went with Snap On. It’s a K60 top box and a K300 bottom. Then I picked up another K60 because I needed the space.

It is amazing how fast they fill up. The more that you are exposed to proper methods, the more tools you will get. When I bought the box below, it was plenty of room. Now, I could use another bottom box.

If you are thinking of just the basics and mobility, the box in your first pic is hard to beat for the price. They seem to be a really good bang for the buck. My general rule is this. If the box feels flimsy at the store, it will only get worse. Premium boxes have always had a premium price until recently. You can now get a really good tool box and not have a car payment sized bill every week at the Snap On truck.

These are things that I check when looking at tool boxes new or used.

1. Is there a lot of movement in the drawers, when they are out?
2. Bearings or slides on the drawers
3. How thick of a gauge is the metal?

At 19, you don’t “need” anything but a 24” plastic piece of crap that doesn’t even close right, unless you are a professional mechanic. I’m well in my 50’s and can have any sort of rig I want, but this box has met my needs just fine since 2001 and it goes to the track with me even. The only tools not here that are needed very rarely are the impact driver, staple gun, and misc suspension crap.

In this mess are 1/2 and 3/8 torque wrenches (calibrated regularly), 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 metric sockets, star and Allen sockets and plenty of misc needed to do 95% of everything. Of everything there, my favorites are the $3 rubber mallet, the vice grip brand vice grips (perfect for putting on oring master links), and the motion pro 3/8 t handle (I just swap the sockets and use a 1/4” adapter for those 8mm bolts).

If anything, I’d say get yourself some good tire irons and a mikes racing stand (or pit posse knockoff) and get good at changing tires. Bring that to the track and make yourself your entry fee by putting a couple tires on for your buddies.

For what your describing, I’d be on the hunt for a snap on classic 60 box. Nice, strong, big enough for a while, and deep enough for longer stuff. Buying used you should be low/mid teens, and never loose money on it. You can find them on FB or CL if you hunt some...

I went the HF route, and while ok, not near deep enough, then bought a snap on 60. It’s long gone, and I outgrew it, but looking back it was a great box!

The 5 drawer cart is very solid. All the us general boxes are built well. A friend of mine spent about 15 grand on a nice icon set up, and the quality setting beside my snap on stuff is superior. And my snap on set up was around the same price.

I'm with you. It's his money but a 24" toolbox will hold everything he needs except for motor work (hone, bearing puller) and once in a while stuff (stapler, suspension tools, tap and die set, impact driver, etc).

I do like that dctools thing, but that's a luxury for a non-pro mechanic.

35+ years in the motor trade, I’ve got enough for now. Mix of Snap-on, Stahlewillie tools. The orange box has special bike tools and parts and bits and pieces.

I have that exact US Generals box and it works great for me! I have pretty much everything to rebuild an entire bike in it. Not sure why some people say it's too small. I put in drawer pads and try to keep it organized by tool type. I love it! Perfect size for my uses and garage.

This is my traveling toolbox that stays in the van. As stated, you shouldn't need to take the "Home" toolbox with you to the track. danclovin633 and KTM300XCW2018 submissions above are Toolbox Porn !!!!! .

Damn it, this thread is going to cost me money, but thanks for all the ideas.

I think the best way to go is get a used snap-on, Cornwell or matco roll cart with drawers that go all the way to the bottom. I bought a purple Cornwell cart off CL about 6-7 years ago for $350 and it was really well built, probably one of the best roll carts made. You only realize how good the cart is once you load it up and roll it across your floor and then start opening and closing drawers that are over loaded. Carts typically have lids that open and you can put all your tools you use most in the top. If you get a small toolbox then you have a workbench on top and can mount a bench vise which comes in super handy too.

Yes, GM World class currently at chevy. That was my setup for 14 years. That box was 14 years old in that picture, now it collects dust in my garage since all the new shops have built in tool boxes.

Nice! I started at a Chevrolet dealership in 1991 and stayed with GM throughout 4 different states (WA, ID, MT, OR) then went to independent in 2005. I like the idea of built in cabinets. I have one of those massive tool boxes that make you think twice when you want to say “I quit!” and you turn around and look at your box and go ah shit. Well maybe we can work this out?

I did the opposite, started independent in 2001 and went dealer in 2003. I have a car hauler with a winch so I'm not afraid of walking out if I had my box at work lol. I'm currently on my second state (OH and TX), but I'm looking to move somewhere else in the next few months. Looking at NC, SC, FL, and maybe other parts of TX.

I'm also not a fan of built in boxes. They are never laid out efficient, some drawers are to small and some are too big with no in between.
