A while back I was listening to a Pulp episode talking about Reed. They discussed a 'super fan' that would sell his bike when Reed would switch brands and go buy whatever Reed was then riding. Obviously an extreme case...lol.
In my circle of friends, I have some that treat it like 'ball' sports. They have their favorite team/brand that they pull for and whoever rides for that team. I have others that latch on to a rider or riders to pull for regardless of what team or brand of bike they ride.
That made me curious as to what may be the prominent way people root for SX/MX

I'll give you some examples of my favorites from this year:
-Jett Lawrence made it to the lead in Anaheim and rode his heart out. Then Ferrandis pulled a questionable pass on Craig and started making his way to the front. I immediately started rooting for Jett to hold him off for the win. Even when he got passed, Jett stayed on the gas and nearly rode out an impossible nose wheelie to stay in the hunt but wadded up. I can't wait to see how this kid matures in SX and the outdoors. Fan! (With a corollary boo to Ferrandis.)
-Ken Roczen almost loses his arm, then comes back only to badly break the other one. Then, he fights his way back into contender status and wins a national. Finally, he keeps Eli and Cooper honest almost down to the wire in 2020 SX. Can he win one more title? You can bet I'll be watching. Fan!
-I liked Shane McElrath's style a few years ago on KTM and he seemed like a contender on Yamahas this year. Fan.

Don't care what team someone is on. I like the majority of the riders. I have some riders that I would call more "favorite".
I root for good racing, amazing talent and NO injuries.
I am more likely to avoid a brand if they have riders I don’t like than I am to buy a bike because i like their riders.
But you've gotten a lot of votes compared to my downvotes for just offering some discussion...lol
Now I wonder how many don't pull for anyone in particular.
Jett just seems to have that 'star' potential. Though potential means you haven't done much yet.
Roczen as well for the same reasons as you. Can't understand the hate he gets.
Tomac is just amazing to watch when he becomes determined.
Webb I didn't care for much because of what I thought was arrogance. But now I see it more as confidence.
Didn't have much of an opinion on Shane...but laying down last season, messing with Chase during qualifying and then taking Chase's gate pick is all a bit cheese.
