When’s this thing coming out?

It was released last year but with a much smaller battery and a spare battery. Small production run and great price $1800. This is the 1st photo I've seen of the rumored newer version with an updated bigger battery.

Agreed 100% i had a 2005 husky tc250 when it was italian and a 4 stroke 250f.

Shootouts would trash that bike so badly as being soooo slow etc etc.

I raced it for 2 seasons. Full exhaust and jd jetting kit and it was easily competitive. And i had one of my best motos ever on that bike. It was slick as heck and the way that engine made power i was hooked up and track felt nearly prime to me where as everyone else was tip toeing around and lighting up the tire.

Problem with the rmz though is the husky 450 power delivery is as good or better in that aspect, has e start, 20lbs lighter, better brakes etc etc.

Anyway definitly pumped for the beta release. Shootouts will likely trash it, basically just because its a beta and it isnt a yz or crf. Even while it might be the bike everyone's fastest on lmao.

Same as the shootout done on vital where a tm got dead last even tho it was head and shoulders better than the rest lol. Dead last because its a tm. Change the letters to yz and it would have won. Seen it so many times with the "underdog" brands.

Not to talk about a TM in a Beta thread, but I saw that bike at TM USA and talked to them about it. They put less than 1.5 hours on it and that included dyno time. So 5 test riders rode it for only a few minutes? No wonder it felt strange to them! At least put some hours on the bikes

Beta has made motorcycles since the late 40s. They focused mainly on trials bikes until 2004 when they introduced a modern enduro bike that initially used KTM motors until 2009. 2010 onward they are Beta motors. Great bikes with rock solid motors. I own one and love it.

Where you could buy one? All I seen is sold out with Beta/Torrot/Gasgas e-bikes.

Dear Beta,
Before you release this bike for production add one tooth to the rear sprocket, actually add two teeth just two just in case.

Yeah very poor job done by vital. Their tests and shootouts took a big hit when ML left. Now theyre hardly on par with swapmoto or dirtbike mags test. Where as before to me they were one of the best in the industry.

I swear dirtbike guys are the worst brand whores. Your bike brand turns out to not be the best and you freak out acting like shootouts are the worst thing.

How many of you are riding each year model bike back to back on the same track, and have enough experience to tell apart small changes to a bike? Not only that, some shootouts now have riders from many experience levels and sizes.

Should you take a shootout and live by it, no. How many times do the shootout intros now have to repeatedly say that because you guys are wackos about them. It’s a simple test, and you make of it what you want.

I agree with a lot of what you said. However, the small brands just never seem to get a fair shake in any shootout and I can see why they’d rather just not participate at all, because no matter how good the bike is it’s probably just going to come in last place anyways. Whether it’s that the riders have preconceived notions, the almighty advertising dollars, or whatever, coming in last place in a shootout is worse for business than not participating at all. Sometimes they deserve to come in last place because they have quirks that need addressing or that take some time to get used to, but in a lot of these shootouts you can read between the lines and see that the bike never stood a fair chance going into it.
If you guys are talking about the vital off road shootout here is a quote from one of the riders ...

”I was excited to try this bike out but wasn't very impressed after riding it.”

It just isn’t the best bike. On top of that, TM winning a shootout would make for better news. I don’t think these guys are rating the bike bad because they are a small company lol.

A shootout shouldn’t woo you from buying a lower ranked bike. Buy what you want man! Maybe their complaints about a bike won’t affect you. It’s just info and it’s absolutely great for our sport driving a lot of competition between manufacturers. TM got exposure anyway out of it, and if they want, they can make changes and come back stronger next year.

Like I said earlier, you guys are divas about brands you want to be the best. If your brand ranks the worst who cares!!! Don’t boycott shootouts because you don’t agree lol. Were you out there riding every bike back to back? In the end, buy what you want to regardless. No one is twisting your arm to choose what the shootout winner was.

The Beta fan boys in my experience are the absolute worst of any brand. They make the KTM nutswingers look like absolute amateurs. I like all brands, they all make a good bike. Some are stronger in certain areas, some are weaker. Boils down to what is important to you I guess. I love the Beta motors and chassis but hate the wiring issues, suspension issues(yes it has improved greatly) and the random parts that seem to fall or vibrate off. TM, Sherco and Beta offering a KYB spring fork certainly adds value to the brands in my opinion.

Beta is the oldest company in the motorcycle business, been around since 1904 under the same family.

Ebay $8550 April 20 2020

You are looking at a very rare 1982 Beta MX500. Its possible it may be the only ones in the states. I had this bike imported from the UK and it has been in my collection for a number of years. Jim Pomeroy actually raced for Beta for a year or two right around this time period.

The late great Jim Pomeroy on the Beta. Notice his bike has the wheels turned with brakes on the opposite side as the production model.

I have no problem with them not liking a bike, but they at least have to put a little time on it. 5 test riders and a dyno run and they put just a little over an hour on it! That’s not good testing by an stretch.

I agree. But no reason to bash shootouts. It’s just info for us to read. We all know they’re just spinning a few laps on each bike and giving first impressions. It’s still better than we all could do.

My point is, don’t take shootouts as absolute truth for everyone. Most of you guys do, and now every shootout video has a 5 min intro telling you this is just their opinions and they are all good bikes. Ignore the rankings and use them for what they are. Most are very informative and give the strengths and weak points of each bike.

She obviously has good taste. Buy her whatever she wants. Women that ride are rare. Might want to put a ring on that one?

You have friends that have good friends with Beta dealerships.

The real question is do you go straight to a bike like the Beta or do ya start of with something that's even a little more "starter bike"?

(Assuming it's her 1st bike AND assuming we want her to have an epic time)

Its still a 300 2 stroke albeit a tuned down one. You can bring the power down even more with the adjustable power valve. I have a friends wife that is 5'3 and she came by the shop and was able to get both feet on the ground. The suspension is trials like and very soft. Its designed to be very springy and let you bounce over rocks and trail obstacles. The slower and harder the trials get the better it works. Its a lot like the old KDX200 in many ways. Its a modern Estart 2 stroke that's very out of the box. Honestly is the bike the KTM Freeride should have been. If she is a rank beginner its probably not the best first bike. If she has some experience and wants a real lightweight modern bike it could be just the ticket.

When’s this thing coming out?

I bought my boy one for his birthday in December. It uses 3 12v batteries. The new one that is not out yet has a 36v lithium battery. The biggest difference will be weight, as the current one is a little nose heavy going off jumps. The new one should be 10# lighter or so. Its perfect for my yard. He has probably put 75-100 hours on it as he rides It multiple times per day. The only thing that has broke is the front brake caliper mount. Its definitely not in the same league as the ktm, but I would not want him going any faster in out yard which has now morphed into a endurocross/MX track. I bought it from Upstate Cycle in Greenville, SC. I was only able to find 2 in the whole country.

There is something about that color palette that just makes me want to throw money at the screen. That red and blue combo is mind blowing and even brighter and cooler in real life. Something about it glows more than Honda plastics and graphics. Its hard to explain but I finally saw one of these bikes at a Harescramble last year and was blown away at how nice it looked.

Their trials bikes are amazing looking too.

I mean.....I have no idea how they ride but boy it would look good in my garage. (retired enduro racer now just a weekend warrior)

Wasn’t that just for sale on eBay?

Now we just need Sherco to follow suit.
Sherco had a MX bike in mind maybe 5 years ago, developped by French riders Anthony Boissière and Michael Maschio, but the project has been stopped, not sure why.
