If he never even rode that’s a plus, but I believe once they do demo bike, it’s pretty much stated as demo bike no matter if it’s rode or not.

Sounds pretty high to me. Also, around here a "demo" bike is one that they let local pros race and at the end of the season the put new plastics on it and sell it as a "demo" bike...
Yep. I got a new bike from the dealership I rode for every year. When I returned it they did exactly this. Put new plastics, normal wear and tear parts etc back on the bike then sold it as a "demo bike." I demo'ed them bikes pretty hard throughout the year Laughing

Fyi, I'm not saying that's what this bike is. But this is exactly what they did with my bikes every year.

Check the clutch cover. A Honda clutch cover will show signs of riding after 1hr. After 20 hours all the black will be completely gone just about. Try and look at the radiator hoses and wiring real close and see how clean it is. Spots that are really hard to clean. Inside the frame for wear spots and dirt stains

I bought an 18 Honda for 7250 in 2018. Got to be a better deal out there.

One of my old dealers would sell their race bikes, i mean demo bikes.
Came with brand new engines. Rest of the bike was clapped out.
Selling price was the same as a new bike because of had some scratched up bling and worn out race team graphics.

The mom & pop shop Honda dealer up in Michigan had (i'm sure still has) a new 2009 CRF450X for $6250 last year...Surprise surprise that's never sold.

As the photo reflects I went through with the purchase, and I am very happy with it.

When I went and talked to him again I was very thorough with questions about it being a demo bike. His direct response was that he had it as a brand new model on the show room floor, rode it in the parking lot 2 times and made it a demo, then he was injured on his personal bike at a hare scramble in Georgia and med flighted closer to home to UT medical center in Knoxville Tn. After that he decided he didn’t want to throw a leg over a bike any more but had already made this one a demo bike. He is an older gentleman my guess at least upper 50’s. My hat is off to veteran riders but his explanation made since to me.

Prior to talking to him I thoroughly inspected the bike, there wasn’t a single scratch on the side covers, the hubs had no staining at all, the chain and sprockets were brand new, the plastics were all brand new, the frame had zero wear from boots, the tires were brand new, the brake pads were brand new, the rotors had no grooves, the radiator hoses had no wear or dirtiness around the clamps, the underside of the tank and upper frame had no wear or dirt at all, and the bottom of the frame and plastic skid plate didn’t even had scratches or scars from sitting on a stand.

The list goes on and on but in short if they put all new stuff on the bike to hide any use then the joke is on them because I don’t want to know what they’d have to spend making it appear brand new again.

All in all I paid 7500 for it, a Fly F2 carbon helmet and reflective 100% googles. I’m sure other deals have been had for cheaper however I can’t say I’ve ever been happier with the purchase of a dirt bike. This is the first 450 I’ve thrown my leg over since my out dated 05 yz450 in 2010 racing all new bikes, still yet competitively. I have to say holy crap and wow how they have improved over the years! I brought it home and still conducted a proper warm up then rode less than half throttle for around 20 mins. I didn’t rev it out like crazy but let the decel do as much as possible too. I let it cool down completely then went for about an hour ride. As the ride progressed I rode harder but avoided the very top end rpms.

Then I brought it home and gave it a complete bath and detail before the SC1 went on. Tomorrow I’m going to do an oil change and filter.

I don’t know if I stated earlier but this is the first bike I’ve bought that wasn’t outdated. It’s no 2020 model I guess but I’m no pro milking it for everything it’s got either. It makes my RM250 appear to be sick haha.

Oh and btw I’ll be breaking in the 265 setup On my RM probably next week so that makes two break ins in just a few days. I truly believe this CRF450R was a brand new bike all but his short ride in the parking lot. As it warmed up I could smell the engine burning off the new factor. In the first 20 min ride I had to adjust the clutch and chain. I inspected the chain ahead of time and then it stretched a little as expected.

I couldn’t be happier with it!

And btw I like Suzuki’s myself. I had an 07 RMZ450 prior to my race days, rebuilt the top end with maxrpms cylinder work and now I have an 07 RM250. I’ve enjoyed both of them!

Sounds like you got a hell of a deal too! Congrats man! Post some pictures!

Congratulations on your new bike! Since this is your first new bike here are some tips.
From the factory there often isn’t much grease in the steeringhead, pro-link and swingarm bearings. Re grease them. After a few hours check the bolds / nuts and spokes. They often come loose within a few hours of use. Maybe invest in some radiator braces and put a hour counter on it to keep track of maintenance. Enjoy your new bike!!

+1 on this. Sometimes axles are dry. Check the coolant level as well.

Most important in these bikes are setting the sag.

Also add some extra oil to keep the clutch cool, and put on a stronger radiator cap to keep it from spitting the water out

I appreciate the tips guys, that helps a lot. I will be purchasing an hour meter and tusk rad cap with a built in temp gauge today. Already have the grease from when I bought my RM. I’ll get it all straight and make some videos with this advice as well. Thanks again guys.

How's about a pic from the other side of the tasty Ti FMF system? Tongue there are some great videos on how to get some really nice "blueing" on Ti exhausts if that's your flavour too
