Looking at above, what do you think. Track for bikes is gnarlier for sure. I think track has a lot to do with it too... Quad dude on a bike is never sniffing SX. I think Brayton on a quad indoors is better than outdoors.

This is all good fun. Quad guys are a special breed of human. I’d love to throw a leg over one of those national level quads.

Do quad nationals even have full gates? Jb may qualify just by showing up

The first time they ran quad races at the cross country series I race, some dude on the inside tried to turn left when the track went right. Took out virtually the whole line of quads. Laughed my ass off and understood quad racing as far as I needed at that point in time.

They used to run quads at the local fair series. Watching those good ole boys try to turn laps on a pretty jumpy tight track was comical. Buddy and I would be in tears the whole time. The fast one or two guys were impressive but the talent pool dropped off really quick. No offense to the quad nation lol

The ATV guys are extremely fast and have some amazing programs!

If you have been there In the ATV pits to see it the bike side could learn something from ATV side. The sport is 100% Family oriented with large teams All pitted in the same area . Years ago I was blown away at the 1st race I went to when the RRR team with 14 racers slid a huge hospital generator out the side of the rig for everyone to plug their toy haulers and RV’s into so they all had electric. They put on a huge family dinner With 50+ people attending.

I LOVED this family concept and was happy to be included.

The Phoenix Honda team is based here in Charlotte so I have been to the race shop and WOW amazing place and the team has been around for a very long time. Rod Mickelson was the team manager at Both Root River Racing in Wisconsin and Phoenix Racing ATV in Charlotte teams and his 2 sons have both been racers on both teams.

The number 1 quad guy wore his number one jersey to a supercross race. Enough said. They have badass lawnmower races too. I’m sure those guys are athletic and could race a mower faster then me. It’s still just not cool.

The machines themselves are pretty amazing as well. Full works level stuff going on. Especially since Yamaha is the only company building sport ATVs now. Everything is built on custom frame with MX motors and seriously impressive suspension. I have no desire to race moto on one, but I've ridden a couple of serious race quads in the dunes and had an absolute blast.

I've been a bike guy my whole life, but I've been friends with some very fast quad guys. (Farr, Upperman, Dettling, Hamrick, Cottage, Mark Baldwin). I've also ridden with T Brown and Chad Weinen. These dudes are animals. Just as knarly as top bike guys.

Most of the holier than thou bike guys that talk shit on quads probably wouldn't/couldn't ride one the way these racers do. I'm not talking joe blo or wheelie boy, im talking core racers like many of us here. So many people talk shit when they really have no idea other than the stigma attached to quads.

I owned a pro race Honda 450 at one point, mainly for my wife to race. I loved that thing. Full rage motor, fox floats, atv 4 play everything. It was amazing. Handles big hits better than my stock Honda 450 bike.

Supercross isn't really a fair shake. Outdoors, those quad guys barely have to slow down for corners. At least not like on a bike.

Back in the day, Tim Farr and I rode BIKES together a lot. I bet he was close to national speed at that time in history on a bike.

Most people that talk shit on quads probably suck on their own bikes.

Aside from fast guys complaining that quads "mess up the track", they don't have a leg to stand on. Even at that, no shit the track shapes up differently.

For the record, I still poke fun at my quad buddies.. quad buddies are different than quadbillies..

If we're talking hammy vs mathes, hammy will smoke him on any given track. (If we're talking about the same hammy). Hell, I'm fat an out of shape and could probably still beat mathes.

It’s family oriented because they only breed with other family members

Is that Weege announcing? It would be interesting to get his take on Pulp sometime. Though obviously he would have to play it pretty PC.

Quads are great to send out first on a muddy boggy mess of a track, they do a great job of sweeping the sludge away. After that all they do is flatten all the fun lines and ruts for Motocross riders.

The top top guys are athletes, but its a different sport and needs to be judged that way. Is Lewis Hamilton better than Marc Marquez? Laptimes say he is so it must be true right. Apples and Oranges

It's all about numbers. How many ATV MX riders are there is the world and how many MX riders are there in the world? What would the ratio be? 1 ATV rider per 5 MX riders?

The answer is that it is way easier to reach the top in ATV MX compared to MX. That isn't a slight against the people that do ATV MX, it's just a simple numbers game. Just like it's way more difficult to reach the top of soccer compared to curling or pole vaulting.

At the one track that allows quads at all here (in a separate area of the park), the quad guys think they're Don Garlits in the pits, especially in the summer when the dust-up is in full effect. It's like the whole "be cool" or respectful gene doesn't even exist for a single one of them. For that reason alone I'm voting option #1, even if there are some actual badass quad racers out there.

The way we see quad riders is how most of America sees motocross and supercross.

I've raced bikes and quads. I enjoy both. If I get bored with one, I'd race the other. I don't have either ATM. Sold my bike back in September.

Have you lost your mind?

It's simple, most guys hate quads because they mess the track up.

Also, why does the quad guy have the loudest fucking exhaust at the track...

That last line..so true. Are those pipes designed to be as obnoxious as possible?

As far as them wrecking a track, really my only issue is how they tend to blue groove up corners. When they're around i just smile and take it as a good training tool for line choice and riding rough tracks.

Our vintage club used to share track days with a quad club and alternate motos. The quad guys kept the ambulance running and drug out the day. They also left their pit area a fucking mess. We only did that one season.

I raced both and ride both. Agree 100% that an average MX biker can go to quad so much easier than an average quad guy. Most quad guys can’t ride a bike.

Overall MX guys can transfer to all sports so better than anyone can go the other way. “BMX is truly the foundation”

However I will say My lap times on my quad at Baja or other local Michigan/Ohio tracks was always faster than my lap times on my dirtbike. I 100% preferred the dirt bike, Loved the dirtbike, but I could bust out faster laps at D14 tracks on my quad same day same practice sessions.

Way too many members here seem to be quadcurious. I can understand that these are trying times that we are going through as humans, but it’s no excuse to go changing your lifestyle just to be the coolest kid on the short bus

Is Gust on this forum ever? Rode with him several times at his track years ago.
