You see, the city has closed all the beaches because all of nobody got sick at the beach. Then, they filled the skatepark with sand because, again, all of nobody got sick at the skatepark. Oh, they also closed access to the open hills; where there is usually 1 person per 10 acres of open space (at peak use).
So, once again, WHEN FUN IS OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE FUN
But we are also closer to Asia.
Australia gets about 1.5m visitors from China a year, the US has about 3.5m
So per capita we are actually much higher.
The Melbourne to Sydney air route is the second busiest air route in the world. We aren’t the isolated little island we once were 60 years ago, for better or worse.
Yet, the deaths per million people is approximately 60 times higher in the US than both Aus and NZ
It’s not an attacking post, we just don’t understand why so many Americans don’t believe that the social distancing measures are worth it.
Clearly lots of Americans do, but lots don’t. And that is an interesting observation in my eyes.
Social distancing measures undoubtedly save lives in the hundreds of thousands. Seems like it’s worth it to me.
This thread could easily devolve into a "bro-science" pseudo-political debate, but I will say that, there is zero, non-anecdotal, evidence that this virus has any affect worse than the common cold, on otherwise healthy people. So maybe do everything we can to keep the at risk, at home, and safe, and let the rest of us get on with our lives.
Evil, as for your comments about this being no worse than the common cold for healthy people.
Come on, look at the death rates in younger people. Whilst it’s nothing compared to the over 65s.
It is still way way higher than the common cold
I’m outside along the road and in people’s’ front yards everyday running natural gas pipe and other than lighter traffic, nothing looks out of the ordinary. Give it another week or so and people will resist even more. I’m getting recorded constantly and people are really starting to wonder WTF is going on.

Ted's data was only showing the ages of those that died, not the mortality rate.
What is your source? genuinly interested to read
and most news reports in my region quote the number of active cases.
but it doesnt change the fact that more people died this month from Covid, than died from the seasonal flu in 2019. and that is with the measures put in place.
I don't think it is reasonoble to argue that this is not considerably more deadly than the seasonal flu, just look at what is happening in morgues, and hospitals.
Just my opinion
Also Dang, in an earlier post you mentioned people making fun of America, I want to be very clear, I very much like America, have visited many times, and I feel like the US and Australia generally enjoys a very similar way of life, and most people enjoy similar pursuits in life.
However the approach from the general population on this particular issue seems different to that of my region.
and I find it interesting to discuss and try and understand how different groups see this issue. It's not making fun, it is from a place of genuine inerest and compassion for what this pandemic is doing to communities.
As for the American view of the government telling us what to do, we’ve learned from other countries failings. From Prohibition, prostitution, gambling, etc, if a politician says don’t do it, we do it more. Gun control is a perfect example. If there’s a whiff of new restrictions, we’ll go out and buy 2 million guns in the month of March. Our government would have been better off telling us to go outside and exercise and we would have sat at home and watched Tiger King even more because fuck the Man and that bitch Carole Baskins.
Sunday?
