The only reason it has not been declared a pandemic is because the WHO is playing political games, as they have been from the outset of this situation. As an organization advising on healthcare, the WHO leadership is effectively dead, they are just politicians. There are good people doing good work under the WHO umbrella, but the leadership is useless. I work in healthcare, only the useless people rise up to leadership in most organizations.

80% of the people who would get it won’t be affected by it at all.

20% of the people who get it, could die.

If you get it and spread it and pass it on to 20 people, 2 of those people could die. Which 2 people in your universe would you like to see dead? <—- this is the real concern about getting it, even if it’s not going to affect you at all.

Laughing Laughing Laughing I was totally going to say that!!!

Actually, I would not want anyone around me to die. Still, I'm not worried about going out in public for fear of contracting a virus. Not yet, anyway.

I'm confident in my body's immune system too, my elderly mom's or my young children's I'm in contact with everyday, not so much.

If the world population all got it, I believe the actually mortality rate is 13.8% right now.

That is a HUGE death rate.
Death rate is not 13.8%. More like 3.3%. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Still a big number, but like someone else said the flu is a far bigger concern here in the US. Main concern here in the US is how it affects the global and US economy,

Right, but the seasonal influenza has a mortality rate under 0.1%. People love to spread around the story that "Seasonal flu is much worse than novel coronavirus". In absolutes yes, but in percentages COVID-19 is around the same as the Spanish flu epidemic at 2-3%. Think about a 3% reduction of your city, state or country and how many people that is? If, and this is still an if, this ends up as a pandemic disease with widespread global transmission, health care systems worldwide are going to be overloaded and outcomes will possibly trend worse. Not trying to be a doomsdayer here, but working in Canadian healthcare I can confidently say if we get widespread transmission it is going to overwhelm our capacity for care.

Good God....

I just spent some time in the ER waiting room (family member hurt).... almost everyone was wearing masks. The masks don't do shit. What a nation of pansies we've become.

They’re trying to draw media coverage away from the homeless issue.

The common flu has not killed anything close the percentages that this stuff will kill if the whole world gets it.

Based on the percentages 2-5 million people will die.
And the hospitals will be over full for 6 months.

0 deaths in the U.S. No verifiable reports behind the Great Wall. Man made and being used as a weapon.

Antihistimine and Mega Doses of Vitamin C and D if you were to contract it. Yes I stayed at a Hotel this weekend, not a Dr.

Option 3 probably won't go to another supercross because it has gotten way over priced and outdoors is a way better value.

All sorts of travel plans for the year including the Salt Lake City supercross. Literally zero concerns. It amazes me how we get a new one of these doomsday diseases every few years and then poof you never hear about them again. Yet somehow every new one is always the real deal. Until it’s not.

Harvard professor stated 70% of the planets population will contract the Coronavirus in time. 2% of them will die. That is 112 million deaths. Just sayin’. Hope not.

If the overall mortality rate is 3%, then I would like to see that broken down into age groups.
I suspect that geezers, the very young, and people who are already puny are much more likely to croak than healthy adults.

As a healthy adult, I am not really worried about it.
Economically, my 401K has already taken a huge hit.

My son is living in Singapore now so I've been monitoring this outbreak more closely than any of the others China's had in recent times. I'm looking at their Ministry of Health reports daily. Recently they were second on the list for known cases but have been quickly shuffled down the list with the rising numbers in Japan, Italy and South Korea. They seem to have done a good job containing it there and helping those who've contracted it. They currently have 96 cases so I'd have thought they'd have one or two deaths by now but they haven't had any. They currently have 30 still hospitalized with 7 in ICU. My son's young and healthy so I'm hopeful that'll work in his favor if he does contract it.

The rapid transmission occurring in these other places is quite alarming though. I know the Chinese people have become somewhat accustomed to outbreaks like this so I'm thinking their society maybe "trained" to take measures to protect themselves better than countries who haven't been through this. I don't know if this lack of preparedness is contributing to these rapid transmissions occurring outside of China but if so we in the US may see something similar here. I know its been said the flu is more deadly but many get flu shots so aren't accustomed to taking additional protective measures. There's no vaccine option for COVID-19 so we have to rely on these protective measures to limit its spread. My wife and I have elderly parents so I think this could be bad for them. Since we all live in rural IL, I'd expect we may be at a lower risk here as opposed to the large urban areas but I guess we'll see what happens.

I would not be concerned... But I would be diligent, wash hands regularly, make an effort to not touch your face as often as we all probably do. Simple stuff... And don't fly in to Wuhan. Wink

If I did go i would stay in a suite or maybe a motor home away from the common folks and their potentially deadly coughs.

I won’t go, but that has more to do with not wanting to support Feld then anything.
