What’s kens deal?

Edited Date/Time 2/24/2020 8:27am
I’m a massive roczen fan but what is his deal if he gets an average start and is stuck in the pack? He lacks that aggressiveness and will to push to the front. I love it when he’s out front controlling a race but when he’s back in 6th-10th its so frustrating to watch him struggle unlike a web or tomac that can push through. In saying that he’s done well this season and I hope he can stay healthy until the end

Funny you say, I was watching the sx with my mrs and she said the same thing, if hes up front he will kill it but soon as its a midpack start he just seems to not be able to pull the trigger on a few passes.

Weirdest part is dicing through the pack has always been one of his biggest assets.

It tends to happen when he is running behind or around Barcia. Maybe it is the fear of getting taken out and injured again. He is obviously comfortable racing with Tomac as they went back and forth.

There was a couple of incidents from the last few years that you may recall?
I think that has affected the level of aggression he's prepared to use to make passes. He's made a few statements this season that he wants to ride safely and is doing everything in his power to avoid any further injuries, which is understandable!
Old Ken's ability to rip through the pack in the first lap is still one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in moto.
Who knows, if he makes it through this year unscathed, we may see that again. I hope so.

Pretty much this. Remember Ken is in the 450 class since 2014 and he only made it through three full seasons (2014/16/19). It's no secret that he's one of the best, with a clear track he is close to unbeatable. But with a mediocre start I see the same things. He doesn't want to battle Webb/Barcia/Anderson. Pretty sure the last seasons and injuries are still in his head.
It's still impressive where he is right now, could u imagine that 3 years ago? But if Eli continues to ride like he has to step it up this year. But even if he doesn't win the championship, he is already a legend to me.

im a big Roczen fan and that second moto was hard to watch , looked like he gave up .The way he got passed bij Webb etc was like im just going to finish this one . I think his injuries and crashes are what play a big mental part in this , as soon he is out front he has blazing speed and no one touches him , but if there are competetive riders around him he gets stuck, especially with Barcia and Webb riders who are not afraid to bang bars . I still had him going for the title , but after last night i think Tomac has by far the best shot . only way i see Roczen win that title if he holeshots all remaining races , with Webb out Eli has to get this one . i dont see why not or he has to get i jured or so

Or he learned from Dungey to chill down and take the 5th. Consistently wins championships.

Not when your rival competitor is continually finishing ahead of you it doesn't. Kenny needs to make it happen & fast.

I get nervous for anyone I see racing near Barcia. 😂

They both have a history of throwing it away. Maybe kens playing the long game and waiting for that big mistake from tomac

We are watching post injury roczen, I think his arms are killing him every race, each year he seems stronger however as the season progresses he drops off and has since his injury.

When he has clear track he can use way less energy.

I bet his arms are so fragile he's aware one mistake is career ending.

Cooper was charging big time thru the pack, left roczen in his dust.

The second race seemed to frustrate him. They said during the broadcast that Roczen told the mechanics not to touch anything on the bike, he will adjust himself. Maybe hes done searching for the magical settings and is ready to adjust to the bike he has. He needs another win soon.

It has been like that for a while. Also last year there were races where he caught up on somebody, was clearly faster than him, and then proceeded to follow him the last 10 laps of the race.
It's either something mentally or he's just too nice and doesn't want to blockpass people. The race where Barcia messed with Tomac he had several good opportunities to pass Barcia (watch his Gopro video) but he never drove Barcia high in the turn. He cut down early hoping he would make the pass stick in the following whoops or rhythm section. Sometimes that is not enough. Not when you are only half a second faster than the other guy.

Seems like he needs to start being a dick like Tomac. A few races of swerving if front of people on the triple will make the championship that much easier to win...

I think Kenny is a bit of a head case. He has looked pretty defeated these last two weeks in his podium speeches. I’m a somewhat fan of him but I think he’s mentally fragile.

Looks more timid around other riders than in the past – given recent injury history he might be playing the long game. Can't say I blame him.

Also, his Honda looks shit when it's rutty. Check the results. Hardpack, no breakdown. He looks sick. Ruts and edges, he looks like a much more uncomfortable rider.

Relative of course, but we've all seen him on the Suzuki or KTM in rough stuff, kid's a freak

Ken is doing fine. He's only 7 points behind Tomac with 9 rounds left.

Ken is doing great, winning races and are very close to tomac in points. But i do agree that he lacks the aggressiveness he had "pre crash". When he was on the suzuki and in the beginning with Honda he could go from a mid start to 1st place in 2laps. Its pretty obvious that he is taking it more easy now being around other riders and that he is not willing to risk coming together with someone and possible hurt himself.

It is truly bizarre. I often think about Millville a few years back. Marvin holeshot and was running off, both Kenny & Eli came thru the sand rollers about 25-30 place. Kenny turned on the afterburners, dropped Eli and was on Marvins ass- for the lead - in about 3 laps. One of the most intense charges I’ve ever seen. I’ll never forget that. *Oh, here’s some pics of Dallas whoop section and other shtuff....

1) leading and taking the fast line.....is one thing

2) being in 10th place and having to get off the fast line and creating a bonzai pass in that sketchy lane.....something completely different

Probably because he knows how to manage a championship. If you haven’t seen the last few years Roczen hasn’t been around much. I think he’ll take a second place overall instead going bat shit crazy in one triple crown main and possible crashing. Roczen is just fine

Ken's realized getting hurt, hurts and doesn't pay the bills. He's grown up and is now "Dungized". That's a good thing. The sport doesn't pay enough to risk spending the rest of your life in a chair. Matter of fact I think it's disgusting the pittance these racers are paid for what they put on the line. Yeah, I know it's a niche sport, blah, blah, blah...

...I have so many questions from this photo..

(1) Herlings? In big D? He must not have qualified for the night show, maybe that's why we didn't see him on the track. If only Dallas had more sand sections...

(2) who is 16 and why does she like him?

(3) I'd like to see a pic of the bottom half of Miss (Mrs?) 16?

(4) Who's is the guy behind "Herlings"?

carry on...

hang on, he won the 1st race, floundered in the 2nd but in the 3rd race he got 2nd, if his arms were tired why did he get 2nd in the 3rd race?
