I can't believe what I saw Saturday. As I'm watching a kid riding frantically trying to keep the lead, I hear that his Mom and Dad sold their house took all the kids and moved out of the country to see him win.
It's hard to digest the magnitude of the pressure this must cause.
This kid knows that he MUST succeed. Maybe it's a little too early for this kid

Remember he has a brother that's pretty fast as well. The family is helping both sons to realize their potential.

This is a ton of pressure for a 16yr old and I believe he'll manage that pressure well with the people he has around him. Solid family, Honda, and the Geico team (which includes a guy who knows a thing about pressure - RD5).

I think he'll be just fine.

Now imagine all the parents that bet the farm and their kid doesn’t even make it to the pro ranks.

He is young but you’ve seen how much fun he’s been having, doesn’t seem like he’s being crushed by the pressure. He crashed at the end of the main because he was young, exhausted, inexperienced and seconds away from possibly a main event win in American SX so he was just twisting grip at the point hoping for the best.

Also, I’m sure he’s not completely ignorant to the fact that his parents are sacrificing a lot but I don’t think (or at least hope) the parents really emphasize it to Jett in that way. He’s still young so I think he will appreciate and understand more of what his parents did for him as he gets older and has more of his own responsibilities. Right now I would assume the mentality is “You want to race in the US? Alright, let’s pack our bags and go!” rather than “you need to succeed or we’re fucked”.

pressure to perform or opportunity to perform? its all perspective.. That being said, i dont think the parents are shoving it down their sons throats to perform.. i think the parents chose to give their sons everything they could and let them see where they could go with it.. I dont think thats pressure.. i think that is Love.. and if you have spoken to either Hunter or Jett i think you might come away with the same perspective i got from them..

those dudes are badass happy go lucky kinda dudes...

You could not have said it better! I agree 100% with every point you just made. Both Lawrence boys have a very bright future and they’re having fun on their way there.

I would love to hear Johnny O,maras thoughts on Jetts riding last week, how and why Jett fell apart to end his own race.

Would you Rather be a 16 year old kid that has, pro speed is on a great team. And has been training your whole life.

Or a 16 year old kid wishing your parents could afford to buy you a bike, a kid with very little guidance experimenting with drugs and alcohol out of boredom.
No seriously though. I'm sure it took a lot of work but how many on here, especially on here, wouldn't love to have his life.
I was never given the chance to try to get good like that
Not only by not having the structure. But by not even having the bike or a bike lol.
So do you feel sorry for him that it's a lot of pressure?
or happy for him because he is on a great team and in the spotlight on his way to being a super star in the sport?
I choose the latter.

It was going awesome. Then he was in no mans land and started thinking about other stuff then started trying harder when he realized he was losing time, crashed. Picked it up HR spiked to a million for two laps of near death every section knowing Ferrandis is coming. Got it under control eventually. Got outsmarted by the smartest guy he’s racing in the last sections of the entire race, missed the opportunity that he worked hard for to get him back, self destructed.

The end.

i would too.. honestly.. i think he just needs more fitness.. hes not used to the race pace or its duration.. reminds me a lot of AC's rookie year on 250's fast as balls but late in the motos when fatigue comes on, they both tend to make small mistakes increasing adrenaline and heart rates causing more fatigue and mistakes.. he just needs more time at race pace..

that being said, had ferrandis not scared him in the corner where he came up short on the triple before the crash, i think he wins the race.. that incident looked like it made him panic.. and in 2022, a older and wiser jett would punt ferrandis off the track in the corner before the whoops and still win.. in my opinion.

Moral of the story: Rookie Growing Pains/Mistakes

i dont think his crash in the whoops was self-destruction. he was struggling with that set of whoops all night.. every lap was a guess of what was going to happen.. sometimes he would be lightning fast like James Stewart back in the day, and sometimes he would miss a whoops and look like a bucking bronco... Everybody racing said the whoops were really difficult even Mookie.. thats saying something..

Hmm.. I think the pressure was much greater when they uprooted from Australia and moved to Europe, where he still had a long road ahead of him before he "made it" as a professional rider, on a professional factory backed team, in the highest level of the sport.

Cat is already out of the bag on Jett's talent. Just look at his rapid improvement through his first 3 pro races. Ever seen him get interviewed before a race? If he feels like he's under pressure, he does a damn good job of hiding it!

In my opinion, his family betting everything to get him to where is was not the root source of any pressure Saturday night. It was simply a kid in his 3rd ever pro race, who was leading the majority of it, then lost a ton of time when he fell late, suddenly going from a big gap to potentially blowing the win.

I don't care who you are or how you got there - at 16 years old, at that point in the night, you're shitting your pants nervous.

Jett's going to benefit from Ryan Dungey's being around, for sure.

Langston said on Whiskey Throttle show (Carey Hart was guest, I believe) that one time in Europe, he told his dad he wanted to go home. His dad said (roughly translated) "We don't have f**king home to go to, we sold it to get you here."

He will win indoors or out before long, he and everyone else knows it. Got to be some relief to know you have the goods.

His family didn't sell everything to come to America. They went to Europe for some time. His father said he would not bring his boys to America before they were ready to race here. Mission accomplished.
Give it time. The mental game in Supercross is the only thing Jett is lacking but not by much or for long.

Pressure? The kid is 16 years old with mega talent, getting paid to ride/race a motorcycle....no life baggage, no real corporate baggage yet. Livin the dream man....livin the dream.

Hated to see him go down like that.

Big things are in his future.

An experienced rider would have settled for second. He was done 2 laps prior.

Tell me more about championship caliber riders who "settle for second'... Hands down the dumbest comment I've read on Vital in awhile - and that's saying a lot...

In his first post on Instagram after the race and injury he said he would "never settle for second".

Come on. He was out of control for two laps at least. We all knew it was coming. I was biting my nails. You go for it when your are in control. I could show You 20 podium interviews where champions said they settled. But whatever you wanna believe is good with me.

That's what I'm saying. It's far too late to turn back. Nobody has to shove that down your throat, you know it.

Pretty sure he want thinking about his parents old mortgage as he was laying the wood... besides his dad if he manages both brothers will be making a lot more coin working with them then some shit job in Australia..
And he wouldn’t care if he did make less .. how fucken sick would it be travelling with your kids watching them become superstars then working long hours to pay off a 30 year mortgage..

Jett is an international veteran and world champion in the 65's. Him and his family are working to a plan. I don't think that the house was sold on a whim.

All I know is Jett definitely gained me as a fan that night. I never disliked him, but wasn’t a “fan” either. Now I respect the fuck out of him and look forward to seeing him in the future.
