A2....things that got overshadowed

Edited Date/Time 1/20/2020 4:20pm
A2 delivered. It's rare that we get rewarded with action packed barn burners that make people yell and scream form their own couch. I was one of them.

In the midst of the Dylan Ferrandis pass drama there were many things overshadowed that would be normally be headline worthy at any other SX round:

1. Chupacabra sighting. He reeled in Roczen and was going for the pass. It's too bad he washed the front end and went down because I think he may have checked out for a solid 2nd place finish

2. Beast Mode - The beast surfaced again last night. If only Eli could figure out the formula for beast mode to make an appearance every week

3. Did anyone see Eli's jersey that got hooked on something on the back of his helmet? Was it the quick release device that hooked his jersey? It ripped his jersey if I saw what I thought I saw.

3.Jett Lawrence wheelies - Have you ever seen a rider so out of control and going for it? His out-of-control wheelies and near loop outs deserve their own highlight reel.

4. Forkner - He can't keep it on two wheels. Is it the pressure or a result of him having cobwebs after being off the bike?

5. Cooper Webb - Watch out, he's almost back to his normal self. i expect him to be racing for the win next week at the triple crown.

6. Barcia - What is going on? Did we speak too soon? Could it be that Barcia was on for the first two races while all the other guys were off?

7. Justin Cooper - Did you see how confused he was during his podium interview when maybe he thought the boos were for him?

8. Boos - those were some loud F'ing boos on the broadcast. I can't imagine how loud it was at the stadium

9. Zach Osborne - finding his groove and put in a solid ride.

What else did I miss other than the Ferrandis pass that is being discussed in every other thread?

Hill not giving up and coming back to a decent finish.

Noble actually getting in there and being racy.

Hartraft getting some consistent podium finishes.

Does anyone have a photo sequence or replay clip of Jett's wheelies? He was absolutely positively completely out of control and I'm surprised he didn't yard sale sooner.

I want to she his Daytona Tomac imitation through the whoops again. Someone has to have a video link?

Great points everyone. I also saw this:

- Mookie being fastest on track several laps but no tv time
- Anderson getting passed and then passing them back again
- Dean Wilson getting into the top 10 nicely
- What happened to Plessinger?
- Justin Cooper being really smart. Mentioned in press conference how he was able to ride in between his limits. Something Forkner should do...

Also, man I wonder how it would have been if Jett Lawrence would have punted Ferrandis that corner before his crash. He was very nice to not go all into him. After that, I think that he should checked up in the whoops and get second. But hey, he is 16 years old and will probably learn alot from this! Awesome ride!

One last thing; the track was good. All three of them actually. 6 different main event winners in 6 mains right?

A few more:

- What happened to AP7? Started 3rd, was running about 10th or 11th, then dropped back to 20th before working back up the 15th. Thought he might be able to put in a top 10 result last night.

- What happened to Benny Bloss?

- How many times have AC9 and Osborne passed each other in 2 races?

- Yes, Tomac's jersey got hooked on the quick release on his helmet. Just another Anaheim, and another gear A-Stars gear malfunction for Tomac. Had to be at least a little annoying.

- Beast mode? yeah, Tomac was 16th in the first corner and in 1st place less than 7 minutes later.

- Speaking of Tomac, he put down a 52.0. The best time in qualifying was AC with a 51.8 on a much better track! The next fastest in the main was Kenny with a 53.2. HOW?

- Cooper: where's the guy that was saying cooper was out of the championship and not gonna win again after last week?

- Austin "I wanted to make a statement" Forkner...... well, he made a statement. The cocky kid hurt his coccyx and brought home a 17th. Bravo Austin.

- What happened to Marty? He was riding so well but he needs a start. Was he the one that crashed with Hill on lap 3?

- What a fun track to watch. Lot's of passing spots. Even the split lane ended up being great. Good job to the track crew, they got it right this week.

- I don't think Jett was as out of control as you think. He tends to wheelie a lot.

- Care to guess who had the fastest lap in the 250 main, almost a full second faster than Forkner's best?

All of this..

Screaming at the top of your lungs 5.20 am UK time does endear yourself to the rest of the house apparently.

Plessinger went down in the 2nd left after the split lane and I think he took Marty with him, or maybe the other way round, maybe lap 2 or 3.

I think Forkner is just being Forkner.

Brilliant night of racing..

On point #3.2 (the Jett Lawrence one) - it reminded me of Pastrana at times back in the day. That’s a great thing if you ask me.

Mookie keeping it on 2 wheels and in the top 10 is damn good to see.

Did you see Jett wheelie through the whoops and also almost loop out near the finish line? We need a replay. I would also like to hear from someone who was at A1 who witnessed this.

It’s already been said...Bagget and Mookie.

I unfortunately watched the 450s before the 250s and the podium interviews were quite the spoiler...having said that...i didn’t know exactly what was going to happen to Jett. After he fell and Ferrandis was catching him..and him losing control...several times was painful viewing cause i was still rooting for him but knew something bad was coming...

AP7 and Bloss got together, which aslo collected BB4. Shame, and Blake was on a tear through the field and would have finished within the top 5 if it wasn't for the second crash.

Regarding Tomac's Helmet catching snagging his jersey. The inflation end of the EJECT helmet removal system has a small (and very potent) piece of Velcro that slides between the helmet padding to keep it in place. The inflation tube became dislodged and the Velcro came with it, snagging his jersey. I have had the same thing happen to me...

Seriously, what is going on with AP7??? He is like 2 full seconds a lap slower than he was on a 250... Heck, he looks worse than last year, and he was terrible in 19... Dude has next level speed, what the heck????
1/19/2020 11:50am
Marty! Fastest in Q1 .. goes down on the first lap was very far back - went from 22- 13th holding off Baggett the last couple laps.

Na, I think you're wrong. His pace matched the fastest time from the 250s, and on a rougher track. I think his speed is the same as it has been before, but the level and pace of the 450s is just higher. He hasn't been healthy in a while, so maybe he's just trying to build.

But no, he doesn't have "next level speed". That's the problem. He has the talent, but he needs to keep building.

Jett Lawrence started doing those out-of-control in-the-hoops wheelies after his crash. It looked like he had something wrong with a throttle because he kept looking down and goosing the throttle in the air.

Corner-of-my-eye view of Kyle Chisolm knocking himself out in the split lane (?). Never mentioned. If my boy hadn't called it out we'd have never noticed. Rewound to catch it - looked like it hurt bad.

I’m a big AP fan so don’t take this the wrong way but I never thought he was on Cianciarulo or Osborne’s speed level even in the 250s.

This comes to mind. I remember in the interview they ask if it was on purpose and he tried to dance around it. When ask again he admitted he didn’t intend on the wheelie, he was just along for the ride. Jetts was pretty awesome as well.

No farkin way was Jett intentionally manualing those whoop sections. C'mon...

That looked like arm pump induced whisky throttle or just over aggression while still a bit out of sorts after his crash,

Webb wasn't really going anywhere for half main till whoops went to shit he could default to jumping them, then he was the best at it.

about 9:12 in video. Unlike Eli, I don't think Jett was in control but it was fun to watch.

1. Call Geico and get 15% chance to finish you race.
2. Mookie fastest 450 rider in main and just cant get top 15 start.
3. How Bagget suddenly was fastest guy until crashing out twice.
4. Why track crew didnt fix whoops before mains, we dont wanna see jumpers.
5. Geico/Smarttop Hondas are best bikes at whoops but Kennys Honda doesnt work at whoops.

10. I think as impressive as AC has been so far, the last 1.5 main events are showing him that the 450 class is absolutely relentless, especially early in the season.
