Handlebar Mounted Moto Watches?

Slapped my Nixon Base Tide Pro watch on my crossbar pad yesterday to use an overall moto timer and it took a sh*t halfway through the day. Was wondering what you folks are using? It appears guys like Ferrandis and McElrath are using Garmin watches? Lap timing ability would be neat too, but isn’t a necessity.

Appreciate any info on brands and models.

On my bike I use a cheap $7 large screen water proof digital watch I got off amazon to keep track of time when I'm riding for a set time. On my wrist I have my Garmin to track other stuff.

I like to run a bicycle computer. Magnet glued to a brake disk bolt. Sensor on the fork guard. Gives time, speed, and distance info.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 45 that I’ve used a couple times so far when riding. I just wore it on my wrist though. But I want to get a chest strap and try putting it on the handlebar. Having gps and health monitoring is cool and can be helpful.

If you’re just looking for time keeping a G Shock would hold up well. They have the Mudman line that’s dust and dirt resistant with big buttons. I have one that’s like 8 years old. Still on the original battery.

I use a polar vantage but wear it on my wrist while riding, it tracks gps, speed, laps and heart rate

This watch is a good choice and pretty cheap. It's an older model not made anymore but you can find refurbished ones.

You can use a heart rate strap with it too.

Anyone have any idea which Garmin watches allow automatic positional laps so I don't have to hit a button? Their website sure doesn't make anything clear.

If the 910xt does it and it's older/cheaper I'm down with that.

As far as I know every Garmin gps watch will auto lap if you set it up correctly.

The 910xt has the feature and the new garmin watches you have to DL a 3rd party app called motosports to get the lap by position function back.

You just press a button on the watch right on the edge of the track before you get on and it uses that position for your lap time.

I use the Casio databank. It fits perfectly on the brake or clutch master cylinder.

I wear a garmin on my wrist. The screen never goes to sleep so there’s no delay when popping your wrist up. I had a Fitbit before this and I couldn’t see the time while riding. Here’s a screenshot from one of my videos to give you a perspective.

I have a tom Tom watch, it has a wrist heart rate pick up on the watch. It’s been great, map of Saturday trail ride below.

GET makes what you’re asking about. They’re mounted to the front fender and only used for starts.

I had a fitbit and it would literally freak out and quit tracking stuff when my heart rate got to 180....anybody else have that problem?

Mine has been pretty rock solid, but I have had two instances where it didn’t want to track heart rate consistently ( both times in the 125-140 BPM range ), in both cases it returned to normal after a quick reset.

The KTM's large rectangular Neken bar pad makes it difficult to mount a standard type watch as the bands aren't long enough. I've been using a cheap ass $10 WalMart Casio quartz watch strapped to my front brake master cylinder and it gets the job done just fine. The friction of the rubber band as well as the rubber band's flexibility makes for a very functional timer.

I can see you scouring the track on your hands and knees for weeks looking for a nice expensive watch that fell off when one of the spring bars used to secure the band to the case fails/breaks.

You can set the screen up to show all sorts of info, for Moto you might just want moving time and HR. But then afterwards you can look at all sorts of stuff- max speed, average speed, elevation, max HR, average HR, distance and if set up right you can set a gps point so you can log lap times. But I’m not sure how you’d do that.

I’d like the idea of setting up a Strava account for your Moto activities and logging every ride. You’d get a graphic of your riding route too. Might see to it..
