CW2/AC9 Rivalry??

Why is everyone pushing this so hard? Every time one of them is asked about it they seem like they don’t care even a little bit. They’re trying to make this a JS CR situation and is WEEK 1.

They pushed the so called rivalry because they needed something to push to create drama.

But after A1 forget about the supposed AC/CW rivalry because there could be about 5 new rivalries between Bam Bam and the top 5 if Bam Bam is able to maintain this pace. This would make for a really exciting year.

Isn't a big stretch down the road this season if AC rides with maturity and keeps it together.

From a media perspective, it's just easy to latch on to. AC and KR are BFFs and seem to have a lot of fun. CW seems like the polar opposite.

They did have a rivalry during the amateur days... Not Villo/Alessi rivalry. But it was there....

Adam's reply during the press conference was as good as it gets. He addressed it very well, didn't venture into drama territory, and gave Cooper some props in the process. They'll have their chances to battle on the track, and that's where it belongs.

AC's response when asked about Webb's "He cracked, I didn't" comment was classy and way nicer than necessary. Make no mistake though, it dug deep and AC didn't like it one bit. I personally believe that on the track, AC will always go a little harder any time him and Webb are right together to make sure he comes out ahead. Whether he can or not is to be seen, but I guarantee there's some "I can't let him get the best of me after a remark like that" going on in ACs head. Especially when he encounters AC on the track, and rightfully so in my opinion.
I've always been a Webb fan, but him saying that at such a devastating time for AC didn't sit well with me. It wouldnt hurt my feelings one bit to see AC put it to Webb, take the title, and murder Webb with a vicious dig in the post race conference. AC wouldnt do that though. He's too good of a dude and too classy. He would be loving it though, and throughout the season its gonna be on his mind because he's a guy and that's just how we are. He's gonna be out to win races, get title, etc like everybody else, but he's also gonna be out to beat Webb regardless of how everything else pans out. That's just what I think. If that's rivalry, then yes I definitely think it's there.

Yeah I agree very classy response.
I just don’t understand why Webb even said it? (I mean what a POS thing to say about someone after losing a C’ship they’d worked their life for!)
CW was trying to pass it off like he was sick of AC’s name been brought up but really the media guy was just asking if there was any extra nerves etc seen someone make a mistake that cost them the c’ship just before he was about to go out. The normal answer would of been- “No just need to focus on hitting my marks and not making any big mistakes, was very unfortunate to see that mistake cost him”
I think AC might be trying to kill Cooper with kindness- too many props going his way.
Webb has never said a positive thing about anybody. I hope AC gets the best of him this year.

If I was AC and got asked that question in the press conference, Id have answered "What comment? I didn't hear Cooper make any comment."

Truth hurts. Up to this point it has almost been an Alessi/Villipoto scenario. Obviously Adam looks to potentially be more successful in the bigs than Mike ever was.

That was a shitty thing for Webb to say. I honestly think Webb was camera shy and didn’t know what to say and react and probably regretted it like shit I didn’t mean to say that he cracked. It was odd and disrespectful.

“He cracked, I didn’t” was definitely cringeworthy. Come on man, ever heard of being humble? Jesus.

Simple answer, people are weird. Some people keep a chip on their shoulder for motivation, some people are petty, some people will hold grudges over small shit. It could simply be that Webb felt he was un-rightfully overshadowed by AC when they were growing up racing and it has always bugged him. Maybe he just felt like that was an appropriate time to let it out since he was at the top and AC was at the bottom.

Who knows, who cares really. That was last year.

there is a rivalry.. its not forced...
except its more towards webb having an issue more then AC9.

It goes back to the amateur days.

However.. I love that Web has that chip on his shoulder.

even last year.. webb just won a 450 title and all that was spoken about was AC9 moving to the 450s and how he is going to win.

again.. im a fan of botth. i love how humble AC is.
But i love the passion to win and prove Webb has.

you’re focused on winning the top level (450) championship, and all you have to do is keep it together and finish solid in the last race. You do that, win the championship. Go into media, and someone asks you about your childhood rival who threw the lower class championship away. he didn’t care that AC threw it away and he was more like come on let’s celebrate me! I just crushed it in the 450s and was suppose to be a backup rider. AND this is coming from a huge AC fan

This is not cringeworthy to me, it's just factuel.

Cringeworthy it's something like : "I want them to be scared" or "Dungey is a good rider but I have a lot of things that he don't"

AC is nicer to Webb than I was to my teammates and all we did was compete for playing time. I’d love to see AC punt him off a berm if I’m being honest (injury free) of course.

I'd rather have Webb unfiltered any day. His finger gun towards Roczen was funny. The comment about AC was accurate.

These sorts of things have a way of coming back to bite you if you're not paying attention so ultimately Webb will pay the price if those guys get the opportunity and want to take it.

JLaw was one of the best personalities for our sport but unfortunately his existence was cut short in the pro's because of his off the track crap. Webb seems to have a bit of JLaw's personality in him along with the ability to keep it together off the track.

Im with you all the way. Webb's chip, Barcia riding with his heart on his sleeve, Anderson assasinating people when he passes them, it's makes things very entertaining! Tomac needs to put on a black hat and start roughing people up a little imho Wink

Storylines. NBC is really into pushing a narrative of some kind and they'll dig it up wherever they can.

Webb and AC are rivals as much as any other top riders are. They've all battled at one point or another. But the broadcasts are painfully dumbed down for a mass audience so that the casual fan or first time viewer has something to cheer for or focus on more than just jump, turn, jump, jump, turn.

Webb has the FLU!! OMG! What an athlete! Let's mention that 18 times and maybe viewers will respect his grit.

The Aussie focus was killing me for the A1 show. I'm all for foreign riders, but it was overkill. Mid-race scanning back to Jett Lawrence in 9th really served no purpose other than the rookie update. What about the guys in 5th or 6th? Didn't hear a peep about them.

These weak storylines make MX/SX seem like there isn't much going on with the riding/racing itself, when nothing could be further from the truth.
