I read some suggest to cut carbs. We are talking about motocross here, high intensity excersize. I wouldn't recomend cutting carbs for mx or any high intensity excersize.

Here is a good rule of thumb for sussing out diet on the internet: If you go to a site for information, and they are trying to sell you something then whatever they are saying is bullshit. The amount of diet and health related BS on the internet is ridiculous, and if you type in a search term most of the links returned by Google are from paid advertisers.

I see someone posting about Chris Kresser, and how he opposes the plant based diet. I'm neither for it or against it myself and I'm no expert in nutrition. Kresser is a whackjob and basically a cult leader. He is an ACUPUNCTURIST who acts like he has a MD in internal medicine, gastroenterology, oncology, nephrology, etc, etc.

I’m assuming we are talking about “what the health”? It certainly made me want to go to a plant based diet. The cholesterol is what kills us in the meat. Who would have thought that the pharma companies sell more to farmers for the animals than humans.

As mine and Bill Burr's Mum always said. "Everything in moderation"
Listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Chris Kressner... he's a dietary nerd who has forgotten more about healthy eating than we'll ever know. Cameron's wife runs a sweet pea protein company... follow the money, right? Its propaganda Bullshit... which is also not vegan.lol.

My mouth had only 4 canine teeth and 32 teeth made for eating fruits and vegetables and grains.

The World Health Organization has classified processed meats – including ham, salami, bacon and frankfurts – as a Group 1 carcinogen which means that there is strong evidence that processed meats cause cancer. Red meat, such as beef, lamb and pork has been classified as a 'probable' cause of cancer.

@dpingree101 dude what? Kresser just got thoroughly embarrassed on Joe Rogan’s podcast like a week ago by the narrator of The Game Changers. Granted it takes about an hour before they start to get into much but it’s probably worth listening to the whole thing, considering that Rogan seems to have done a complete 180 from his prior stance based on this.

I just listened to that. Compelling rebuttal, for sure. Still, you can find studies that show either side is right, depending on who you ask. At the end of the day, eat what makes you feel best because your genetics are going to determine, overwhelmingly, how long you live and what disease processes you’ll be afflicted with. That’s the real truth.

'Eat what makes you feel best' should be changed to 'eat what fuels your body best'.

Often people eat 'comfort food' that makes them feel good but is terrible fuel.

The idea to follow the money is fair however there's a difference between an oil company knowing that what they are doing is ruining the planet so they create a cabal of 'think tanks' and fund right wing media to pretend that scientists are crazy and do everything with the political and media power their extreme wealth gives them. That is a case of follow the money on every single media or 'expert' that makes any sort of claim the climate change is a hoax. Follow that money its really scary from a democratic society point of view.

To me that is slightly different to seeing that Meat production is terrible in so many ways, even if the product when eaten is great fuel, and starting a company that produces protein in a less terrible way. The problem is trying argue that vegetables is a better fuel source than grass fed free range steak is fucking stupid and not true. However for the majority of people that eat shit or processed or fast food 'meat' then fresh vegetables are a much better fuel source. And the production of vegetables is far better than meat production in lots of ways.

ps. I've been Keto for a year off and on. The first three months with strict tracking and have lost 10Kg and kept it off. As a wheelchair user Keto (with tracked limited calories) was the only way to burn fat when I have limited muscle usage. I eat a shit ton of meat but im also aware that for a lot of people simply cutting meat out of their diet will lead to a massive health improvement, due to cutting out lots of fast food access.

Serious question...how do Vegetarians acquire enough protein to sustain muscle ? All I can add to this thread is...Life changed for the better when I stopped eating processed foods and cut sugar out of my life.

Listened to both pods. In no way was it a compelling rebuttal. Who gives a fuck about the b12 point and I love peanut butter but what the fuck. It’s not a good idea to subsist on it.... bread or no bread.

Dude just shouted throughout and again Kresser’s point isn’t you can’t be vegan, just it’s probably not the most effective and you need to be on your game to be so.

He also accused kresser of doing the same shit he did, my experts, these studies, authoritarian logic and you’ve got a supplements business. Was painful as fuck. I’d say listen again but I wouldn’t want to put anyone through it.

Like I said to my mate, just be sensible, whatever your eating style. Ain’t hard.

Every person reacts differently to any type of diet, lifestyle, training regimen etc. Without doing bloodwork regularly and testing yourself in several different ways you will really never truly know what’s best for you. It takes a lot of trial and error when it comes to diet, supplements and training to decide what is best for each individual. There is no blanket magic pill for the masses. I think there are some obvious things out there that are hard to argue like the fact that sugar for the most part is bad for you and regular exercise is good for you. A lot of the other theories and supposed standards can be pretty subjective and vary from one individual to another.

It was a hard pod to listen to as several other of Rogans debate shows have been. They end up becoming back and forth pissing matches where everyone interrupts none another, acts condescending and lose their composure.

I am sure some study will come out next week that all the sudden says the opposite. That is one of the issues with science and studies. Even science is subjective and controls can be manipulated or just show different results from one study to the next. For years we were told fats were the enemy when it came to heart disease but now we are being told sugar is the demon and responsible for wide spread inflation in the body.

Nutrition science is especially hard because it’s mostly survey or small sample based. The control is not consistent and generally all participants have a different starting point. Couple these limitations and the fact every person is different and reacts different and it becomes a really hard field to research.

This is why lots of studies are about statistical correlation because that’s as accurate as you can get.

However it’s now common knowledge that the fats are bad campaign was funded by the sugar industry. And the food triangle was invented to ensure the excess food grown And subsidized during the war was consumed.

What I would say is that as soon as you starting thinking about the food you eat and consuming it for fuel then you will likely have a better relationship with it and be healthier for it.

Yeah I was pretty bummed Joe wasn’t able to actually compute what was going on in real time. The b12 point was irrelevant but basically turned his mind and the way he referred to the debate around.

Ledger,

The biggest sources would be things like soy (e.g. tofu), beans, nuts (e.g. peanut butter), and things like chickpeas & quinoa. A few of the slides at the link below describe where it can be found outside animals.

https://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/ss/slideshow-how-to-get-protein

It was also a point made on the Rogan podcast that the most protein intake that is recommended for people specifically interested in gaining as much muscle as quickly as possible is something like 1.2-2 g per kg of body weight, and consuming any more than that provides no additional benefit. This seems consistent with the info at this webmd link below.

https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/features/protein-powder

That can definitely be achieved on a plant based diet if you’re eating right. For example, a few days ago I had the following meals:

Breakfast: Oatmeal with banana
Lunch: Massive salad that included chickpeas, quinoa, & veggies
Dinner: Veggie burritos

My protein consumption that day was 111 g based on tracking my macros with the myfitnesspal app, which is within the 1.2-2 g per kg range (it’s 1.3 g per kg for me at 185 lbs). That’s sufficient protein for a competitive athlete, per the webmd link (not that I am).

I was looking forward to the podcast with them debating, and I shut it off after about 20 minutes. Brutal listening to them argue. I almost got sucked in to all this BS.

Just eat clean and get your heart rate up more than once a week. It's not hard to feel good. People make shit more difficult than it needs to be.

I could not agree any more. It is sad (and dangerous) just how divided the world is getting these days.

In my opinion, the problem is some groups feel superior since they believe in something. So everyone needs to believe in it or your wrong and shouldn't be listened to. Also the same groups are turning to violence to make sure people will listen to them. This causes the other side or opposing groups to harden there stance against them. I blame social media.

I just tried the plant based approach for 3 weeks and got off it 2 days ago, couldn’t stand it anymore. Reasons? Every protein based source such as soy, lentils, beans, quinoa, seeds, etc have a high amount of carbs that go with the reduced protein that is offered. Found I was gaining weight due to it. Also a lot of gas. Most all soy products have alot of pesticides used when growing them that is not good. Never felt satisfied after a meal either. Happy to go back to a normal diet using chicken, beef, fish and eggs where my total cholesterol was 165.

James wilks basically makes Chris kresser choke on everything he criticized on the movie. I’m no vegetarian or vegan but Wilks owned Kresser in that rebuttal. Seriously Kresser’s business probably took a hit from that podcast.

That was kind of my point. A diet that is mainly plant-based but still allows for some animal-based protein

I agree, but I would say there are plenty of people who are equally as vocal on the other end of the diet spectrum. Just read through this thread.

Im surprised at this statement. I dont remember meat eaters lobbyjng congress at the state, federal, and UN levels wanting a sin tax on vegetables. I assume meat eaters voice their opinion after being attacked for causing global warming.

How many vegans are in here preaching? How many meat eaters are here complaining about vocal obnoxious vegans?

This is how every thread I’ve seen on the topic goes.

I agree with you, but my point is that peskatarian diets are more suited to vegetarians than for those who consume meat, in particular, red meat. A genuine peskatarian diet limits seafood consumption to twice a week, so I don't think that's a happy medium for those who eat meat. Either way, vegan and vegetarian diets do require supplements (either legumes, and/or other vitamins and minerals) to get the necessary protein and B12 needed in diets. But it is, when properly done, a healthy diet, and a diet that can be sustained over a lifetime. More so, in my opinion, than a meat based diet.
